I'm first to review? Shut. The. Front. Door. I wanted to review a place that I LOVE for my 40th review. And this gym is definitely a fav! Crossfit Heat is definitely a great gym for learning proper form while weight lifting. You get a daily personal trainer for a whole month for what would normally cost maybe 4 sessions with one. Okay, its a "personal trainer" in a group setting, but they keep adding classes if class sizes ever get too big. So it always feels like I have my own personal trainer. And that's how you have to look at Crossfit. You are not paying for a gym membership. You are paying for unlimited personal training. In that regard, this is totally worth the price. I have learned so, so much about weight training. Push press? Overhead squat? Before I joined this gym, I had no idea what those were. They take their time and really teach you each move, where to set your feet, where to use leverage, and all the while, giving you strength and teaching you how to grow from it. Joining this gym has really changed my perspective. As a massage therapist, I study the human body. And I can say that the trainers here focus on form and function, and do a great job at making sure you never hurt yourself. I have had both Tiffany and Garry both order me to bring down the weight I was using to a lower weight, because my form was not top notch yet. THAT is the kind of feedback that a real pro brings to the table. All of the trainers at this gym have proven to have that kind of discipline, and its very impressive. Warning: Like *any* gym that uses weights, it is YOUR responsibility to take it slow and easy, and ask aggressive questions about form, until YOU are doing it right. If you try to grab a weight heavier than your weakest muscle (like the shoulder, anyone?), and you overdo it, you will injure yourself. Every time. Don't blame Crossfit for this. YOU need to take it slower and ask more question. I've spent an entire week working with a piece of PVC pipe instead of a weight. Trust me. Its worth the weight. I have great form. And as I move up, I do so confidently, and without injury! And PS. I know there are vids of people from Crossfit doing stupid poorly formed exercises. Guess what? There are vids from every gym of people doing stupid things. You should judge the gym based on the knowledge and training of the people there. And based on that, this gym gets 5 stars! All around one of the best gym experiences in my life. They start with a warm up and walk you through the whole process. Great experience. read more

Was in Dallas traveling on a music tour and was looking to get a good WOD in. This place was awesome. Everyone was very friendly and the place had everything you could ask for to get a good workout in. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stop in and get in a Crossfit workout. For new people looking to get into Crossfit I would highly recommend this gym to them. I will be coming back the next time I am in Dallas for sure. read more

I've been coming to Crossfit Heat for almost 2 years now. The gym has expanded over the past year but still has the same feel as a small group instructed class. Training is very one-on-one when you need it or request it, and the instructors are all very involved in monitoring your form. I've never been one to make friends at the gym, but here, it feels like a family. Everyone is extremely nice and wanting to make you feel welcome to work out there, no matter your skill or ability. Hands down, this is the best workout I have ever done in Dallas, and I've done them all (Jays, Camp Gladiator, Equinox, Golds, 24 Hour, etc.) read more

I have thoroughly enjoyed myself at Crossfit Heat Dallas, although my body is hating me right now. I love that they teach technique, technique, technique. This gym is my second exposure to Cross Fit. This time, I decided to stay at this gym. I decided to do one of their Drop in Saturday 9AM classes, and I just felt a community and family coming out of this gym. Garry, the owner, always stresses doing WODs that involve partners so that teamwork could be built across the gym community. The basics course I took was definitely worth the money as it started to solidify everything I have heard about Cross Fit. Yes, you will get bruised, you will get roughed up, but, that is just the nature of Cross Fit itself. From the knowledge coaches to the family I've began to found here that loves working out; I can see myself being at this gym for a while. The personalized 1-on-1 instruction time you get with each of the coaches is valuable. Most importantly, all the coaches emphasize safety over quantity, which is vital in doing Cross Fit. As long as I'm in the DFW area, I will keep coming back to this gym. read more

I was in town for the weekend, and didn't want to miss my workout. I dropped in for a class and was not disappointed. Great coaching staff, and the other people training were all really nice. The equipment is definitely a bit used, but no real complaints. The one issue I had was the heat. The name is fitting. Being in an old warehouse, there is little to no air circulation. The big fans they have running (no A/C) did close to nothing. I drank a kill cliff, plus like 7 bottles of water. The flip side is that it builds endurance. Was in Dallas on business and went into Heat to get a workout in. Box was huge and it's got some amazing staff and owners. Super friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. We got to join them as they did the Crossfit Opens workout (13.2) and they made my friend and I feel like part of the gang. They gave great tips going into the workout that helped me get a score I was happy with. Will definitely be visiting them any time I'm back in Dallas! read more

I specifically came to the gym for Jose, the Olympic weightlifting coach. I took a break and was going to go back to weightlifting when I was informed that Jose no longer coached there. It's a shame that a professional, Nationals qualifying, accredited coach is being replaced by someone who has less experience and education. I found this out the day before a competition, an inopportune time to release someone from the gym. Why would you fire your best coach the day before a meet? I hear this is due to new ownership and if this is so, i suggest trusting your training with someone else. read more

Dropped in on the 530am class with Coach Taylor to find a great environment - very motivating during the skill work and WOD, huge space with plenty of room for training and all around solid programming. Would happily recommend to anyone in the area and personally hope to come back when they're using the rig outside for a WOD. read more

My husband and I dropped in while we were in town for a convention. I got EXCELLENT coaching (which you sometimes don't get when you're in from out of town), and my husband was allowed to re-do the open work-out and one of the coaches even took extra time out of her schedule to judge him. The gym itself is beautiful and has tons of equipment, but again the really helpful, skilled coaching stole the show. It's clear the owners take a lot of pride in this spot, as well they should. We dropped in during our road trip for a 9am Saturday WOD and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Joe (coach) was very knowledgeable about the movements and explained each part of the workout in detail. The community here was great as well! Tons of high fives and good jobs rolling through your the WOD. I am in Dallas this week on a business trip and decided to drop in on their 5:30am class. It is my first time in a box other than my home (CrossFit O-Town) in Ottawa and I'm glad I went. Very nice and welcoming group and the instructor clearly knew what she was doing. I appreciated the balance of a relaxed atmosphere yet being pushed and motivated for intensity. Missed this morning's class due to a taxi issue but will definitely be back tomorrow morning and the next time i am in Dallas. read more

I've been coming to Crossfit Heat for a few months, and the biggest asset to this location is the coaching staff. Sure it's fun to do a grueling workout in a warehouse setting, but be prepared to learn fundamentals and how to do things correctly. The coaches come from various backgrounds: law enforcement, olympic lifting, gymnastics and physical education. You're never going to get bad advice. You're going to reach your personal best. Dropped in on my business trip to Dallas. Met one of the owners, Joe, who was super cool and showed us around the whole facility after class. This place is huge with a large main workout area, a side space, a large outdoor area with a rig and tires, etc., and a basement oly lifting area with a dedicated coach. Pretty amazing. Was in Dallas on business. Found Crossfit Heat and came in for a workout. This place is great. Awesome people, great atmosphere for an old school, hardcore workout. Even got in some sled pushes with the owner. Don't see that very often. Highly recommend this place to anyone staying downtown and looking for the best place to train. read more
