I have only been going to Crossfit Glasgow for a few weeks, but my fingers are burning to write this review, so here goes:
I was not entirely new to crossfit before going there, as I had been to a couple of other boxes. This one is by far the best. First of all, they want to make sure that you get your basics right before getting a membership, and thus offer a "fundamentals" training week-end. During these 7 hours, you'll learn all the basic and most common moves involved in crossfit with a team of about 10 other newbies and 4-5 dedicated coaches. I had a blast during this training, met great and motivated other newcomers and felt really well supervised by the coaches. After doing this, you're ready to go to any workout (WOD), where you'll get ongoing training and step-by-step progression on the most challenging moves.
There are classes in the morning, lunch-time and evenings, so you can go whenever suits best. Every evening, the WOD of the next day is posted, so you can check it out in advance (even if like, me, you would rather not because you don't understand the abbreviations anyway :-))
I guess one of the best things about Crossfit Glasgow is that you feel super safe, super welcome, and part of a community. Everyone is nice, helpful and there to have fun. From super-trained athletes taking part in competitions to baby lifters like me, it's all just one big group.
If you are unsure about crossfit and think it really seems a bit too hard core for you (it does involve weightlifting and high intensity exercise), just give it a try: I am not the fittest, and far from being super strong, but I am really enjoying this and warmly recommend it. read more
