They have a nice selection of equipment; cables, free weights, turf, ropes, sled, machines, and cardio equipment. Locker room was clean and organized. Small but efficient group fitness room. Class schedule looked a little sparse. There was a hip hop fitness class going on when I went, and it was one instructor and one attendee. The instructor was bringing it like the class was full, so props to him! If I lived here I would join this gym!

the management of the YMCA downtown Hickory is alarmingly poor at organization, communication,…read moreconsistency and customer relations. The 'new' gym is hideous. in contacting the management,, the person couldn't have cared less, she was condescending, flippant, she didn't listen to what I was saying and she was dismissive. it was clear her missive was to get me off the phone. The staff is put in a terrible spot. they aren't being communicated with from management. people are wandering around lost in the facility because of the lack or non existence of staffing. Rooms aren't available when you talk to one person but another person says they can unlock it. they are RUINING the experience of going to the gym. They are of course charging full price for a lot less than 100% availability of what we had prior. She uses the phrase ''sorry you feel this way" clearly its NOT a feeling, its cognitive thought, something they do Not understand at the Hickory Foundation YMCA. id be embarrassed to tell anyone I was management at this place. No-one cares, its apathy to the Nth degree and it starts At The Very Top who refuse to interact with membership because well, they just do not want to hear it.

They allow people in the hot tub without showering off, there is, in fact, no signage to this effect until they have already passed the showers and entered the pool area. Thought rinsing off would be a given but not so. There is not enough equip. unless you are a weightlifter and it's often hard to get a machine because there are so few ( except treadmill ). They often don't replace the wipes in a timely fashion tho they have little signs that say "don't forget". Some may say the pool is heated, I contest that ( and no, they do not have towells) but do have plenty of lockers. Staff is friendly enough, but any discussion you might try to have with managemnt about a concern will end with them becoming arbitrary. ( defined by Webster as, " decisive, yet unreasoned." Or, because I say so. I've gotten myself shaped up but I'd rather take my money, get a modest elliptical and hang a heavy bag in the cellar. After joining my local Y in Knoxville, I missed the activities (especially the pool) available…read morewhenever I visited my cabin above Morganton, NC. A search indicated a pool/workout area within the Phifer Wellness Center. After a lunch at Moon Dog Pizza, I drove over to check out the Wellness Center, adjacent to Grace Hospital in Morganton. The Drexel Heritage Aquatic Center is located within the Wellness Center and features a 3'/6'/3' depth pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and shower area. The facility is very clean and well maintained. Towels are provided, as are spacious lockers for use during your visit. The heated pool is placed within an area with a restful colour scheme (no glaring lights!). Fast-paced 'workout' music is piped-in for those working with movement exercises. There are several access ladders, as well as a set of access steps into the pool. Additionally, access is provided for those needing wheelchair accessibility. It must be noted that while several pieces of water rescue apparatus are placed along the pool area, there is NO LIFEGUARD on duty, ever. The parking area is clean and reasonably level, with plenty of Handicap Parking available. Drexel Heritage Aquatic Center and the Wellness Center accepts members of the SILVER SNEAKER program, at NO COST! This allows visitors carrying membership in the Silver Sneaker program to continue their wellness programs when away from their home base, or local residents access to a fine gym/pool at little or no expense. Consider the Phifer Wellness Center your very own 'Workout 'Gem' in the Upper Piedmont'!

Very disappointing experience with InMotion Wellness…read more I initially purchased a 3-month package and was given the impression that I would be contacted before the 3 months were up to see whether I wanted to continue. I never received a call, notification, or receipt letting me know that I was being enrolled into an ongoing monthly membership. I later discovered that I had been charged $199 per month, despite the fact that I have not used the services at all. I also did not receive receipts or any communication notifying me that these recurring charges were taking place. Once I realized what was happening, I contacted the Statesville location to ask about canceling the membership and getting a refund. I was told someone would get back to me, but I never received a call back or any follow-up. I understand that memberships can have terms and conditions, but there is a big difference between knowingly agreeing to a recurring membership and believing you are purchasing a 3-month package and will be contacted about continuing afterward. I'm extremely disappointed with how this has been handled, particularly the lack of communication and follow-through when I tried to resolve the issue directly. I hope InMotion will take responsibility for the situation and make this right.
