I have heard good things about Doug from one of Facebook's Livingston Home's groups, so I decided to go to him when I wanted to switch lender. My first lender made me feel like I didn't matter and some how I should be grateful to him. It's hard to explain, but he made me feel small and I didn't feel like there was much transparency in what was going on. Buying a home is a big deal, and I did not want to do business with a person or company I didn't trust. I started searching and found Doug online after I put in an offer on a house. From the get go, he was quick to respond, very nice, respectful, and helpful. He made you feel like a value customer. He was always so great with responses and helped me anyway he could. He worked to get me pre-approved with documents for the home in about 1-1.5 days. And it was smooth sailing from there. I also worked a little with Thomas towards the end and he was also nice, helpful, pleasant, and easy to work with. I just closed on my first home yesterday and it was all done in about a month. And you know they're great guys when even the title company mentioned how nice and easy they were to work with; my realtor has also said great things about both of them. I seriously cannot praise Doug and his guys over at Crosscountry Mortgage Brighton high enough. I was also able to do everything I needed through email, fax, and their website. Everything was straight forward, easy, and you get to see all your numbers on paper from the beginning and during the whole process so you know what you're getting into. Disappointed. I have a difficult case as I'm a waitress, so I don't have much proof of income. I was told they'd work with me until I did in fact get approved, and had me send in ALL of my information. Haven't heard back in weeks, and have since moved on to someone else. We spent nearly two months working with Jennifer Laymen to secure a loan for the new property. We were very pleased with her professionalism at first, but that quickly changed. We were continuously left out of the loop about the entire process. Finding out the day of a deadline when documents were required. Leaving us scrambling to acquire these documents to continue the process. We asked numerous times to be kept informed to avoid any further headaches and she refused to share with us the process. Thenl two weeks before closing when we were really thrown for a loop due to her neglect to inform. Based on a law that had changed in October and her not informing us until two weeks prior to closing. Leaving us frantic that this would fall through due to her not keeping us informed. Despite our full disclosure of our situation and what our plans were. She never was forthcoming that our plans were not going to work until two weeks before closing. Including, asking for documents that were not available until the end of the month. We repeatedly informed her and she just kept asking as if we were holding out. Days passed before her assistant informed us of another way to receive that information. Days later. When we called her out she made no effort to take responsibility and blamed it on the system. Even though this entire time we had been asking her for a checklist of what to expect, she never provided one. We had to dumb it down for her that clients are usually not working in field and do not know the process, despite research it can be a very blind experience. We let her know that she needed to inform us of everything. She gave a very vague process overview a week before closing and then we were blind sided again by more information she failed to disclose. Then the morning of closing we were informed that our cash to close had increased by over 1000 dollars. She said "This rarely happens" and her reasoning was due to adds (home owners, appraisal) that had been finalized nearly a month prior to closing. Leaving us questioning what had really caused the rate to go up so drastically. Normally, I allow inept people to slide and don't slam them on the internet. However, we were so infuriated by the end of this process I felt that we had no other choice. This process was maddening and it could have been so much better had Jennifer Laymen kept us in the loop about the entire process from the beginning. I hope she takes our advice and makes a DETAILED checklist for any further clients, so they are not blindsided time and time again like we were. read more
