A few details...

Today, my mum took me to the newly opened Crossbasket Castle near Blantyre, outside of Glasgow. It's been drastically renovated by Albert and Michel Roux Jnr and I was bowled over by the transformation from the tired building that used to house my oldest son's nursery. It's lovely to see the building saved for years to come and looking so incredibly beautiful. It's also now an amazing wedding venue. The afternoon tea was lovely, and was served by the warmest of staff who were attentive but not in the least stiff or overbearing. In a beautiful and peaceful room, we enjoyed very tasty sandwiches of salmon with wasabi cream; egg mayonnaise with paprika; and Ayrshire ham with a celeriac remoulade. We ate light scones with jam and (very welcome) clotted cream. There was also a selection of smaller, richer cakes and pastries, some which I enjoyed more than others. What we couldn't manage, they packed it up and gave us them home to enjoy later. I *really* want to go back for dinner in the near future. In the evening they offer a tasting menu with a wine flight. Lunch is a la carte, but there is a more casual menu that is served throughout the day. Oh, and thank you to the whole team for my special birthday plate and cake.

You can sit where you want which is a huge plus, I think more Stadiums should do that. At half time you can buy stuff and got pitchside. Take pictures next to the pitch. It's great, I recommend it!

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - even though I go to Hamilton fairly regularly when on tour or travelling, I've only visited this stadium once, and I wasn't impressed. I actually thought the old one was a little more grand and fitting for a club of this size. The facilities are shiny and new, but just not big enough. And the turf grass makes you feel like you're at a training match. I will go back and see the stadium a second time, though, as I always try and visit stadiums whenever I drive through towns. So when I was doing my first tour of Scotland in 2011, I also hit up every single stadium in the country. My obsession with footy (soccer to Americans) is the reason. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are based on first-hand personal experience, usually from multiple visits. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to most of them yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at many of them, which I will post later. Also, when back in Scotland I plan to take more pix, and add more stadia! So watch this space! *** return to regular review *** This is the new stadium of Hamilton Academical, and it's very modern and cute. It's in their red and white colours and holds just 6k people since opening in 2001. It currently has "Tigerturf" which sounds fun but is actually just plastic. In fact, the only reason the stadium has 6k capacity is that it's the league minimum. The stand that took it up to 6k is a temporary one. It's a fine new stadium though and serves the purpose.

Don't trust your maps, just sneak up the back way! I went here for a friend's 21st, and was really impressed with the function room. It was held in the Mill Suite, which is a downstairs suite with 2 rooms, a coatroom, and bathroom facilities. The main room consists of a bar, a seating/lounge area, and a dance floor with long tables situated at either side. It's a lovely room, very clean, modern, and welcoming. It'd be a lovely place to hold any milestone birthday, engagement party, wedding reception, etc. The prices of drinks at the bar were pretty reasonable, and space to relax or to mingle and chat. The dancefloor is a good size - definitely plenty of room for all your friends' and families' embarrassing dance moves, and all those dance-along favourites like the (heeeey) Macarena! This is definitely the kind of place I'd think of hiring for any big special occasion.

One of last years trends for me (before the weather kicked in) was going to as many museums and…read moreparks as possible in and around Glasgow. Partly because its inexpensive and because it's a good way to see Scotland with my Finnish girlfriend. Our National Trust for Scotland memberships served us well in here, a place I haven't been for around 15 years. It's terrifying how much I can still remember. As well as the museum of the Scottish explorer David Livingstone, which houses alot of his own personal belongings, there is a play park and gorgeous woodland garden that is a joy to stroll around. My luck being my luck, it wasn't the warmest day on record so we spent more time indoors than out. If I ever have kids, I will bring them here and tell them stories about when my Dad took me here oh so many years ago. Free to all, with an admission charge for the museum itself. National Trust for Scotland members go free.

With a huge statue…read moreof Livingstone outside being attacked by a lion. however the museum itself inside is quite boring. Certainly not worth the entrance fee. There is some interesting stuff about the abolishing of slavery, and a replica of his tomb. There is also some of Livingstones diaries and medical equipment on display, (and a disturbing looking thing for cutting holes in skulls!!) The tea room is well priced and and has a good menu. A lot of the building seems shut off the the public, like old classrooms and stuff and they could maybe make more of this. His red shirt he wore when he met HM stanley is on display. ( I presume its not a replica!!!) The surrounding area is nice and a lovely park to walk in , but the asking price of £6 is bit steep for what this museum offers if you ask me.
