A great find! I'm discovering more of a love for the castles and Abbeys that are free and unmanned- whilst they're smaller, so far I've found them to be extremely fascinating with the added bonus of peace and quiet.
So this castle just happens to be in the middle of the 'burbs, just outside of Glasgow city. Like, we parked outside someone's house and walked up a hill for two minutes and voilà! We arrived.
Given its size and location, this is one to add to your castle-hopping day if you're not a local, as I personally wouldn't think the long drive (75 minutes for me) is worthwhile.
The castle is small, did I mention that already? But you can climb a few stories to reach the top and you'll have some great views of the area. Also a good way to tackle your great of heights without going too extreme, or a way to feel super badass, you know, without going too extreme.
Really enjoyable, but you wouldn't need to spend more than 15 minutes given there isn't a whole lot going on, but worth it to feel adventurous and enjoy some lovely views. read more
