A great shop with excellent service. Barber Riko shows attention to detail with each client. I've been a customer for years.

Got a fade, my necks real itchy and the cut is uneven. I paid $40 plus tip and tax to look fucked up.

Fantastic vibe and service!…read more I've been considering a new barber for a few weeks. I read all the great reviews as well as the not-so-great ones, and I am always impressed with leaders who take accountability for the customer experience. Ryan's comments made me feel secure in trying out the shop. Making the appointment was seamless. They use a common scheduling app called SQUIRE, and I was able to get an appointment with Ryan. The shop is aesthetically fantastic. Very old-school in design and decor, which I like. It fits perfectly in the neighborhood, which adds to the charm. The energy in the room, however, is something that I rarely see. The team and the customers are on an entirely different level of coolness than I'm used to, and the experience was terrific. Ryan and I hit it off right away in terms of him understanding what I was looking for, and he exceeded my expectations. He listens well and asks strategically good questions. The service was timely and a good value for the price paid. I was watching one of the other barbers do a masterful job on another customer, and I feel confident that whoever I see in there will make me look (reasonably) impressive!

Number 1, I was in town to see the Dodgers play and had on my Dodgers gear, he talked a little crap, I did so so about the Astros, all in good fun. And my more pressing concern was that he wouldn't be any good, I come from a town that takes its barbershop culture very seriously so I'm a little persnickety when it come to my fade. As I I said, he provided my cut to my liking and was able to jokingly talk crap representing his Astros to a diehard Dodgers fan, so I definitely recommend him for his skill and welcoming personality. I was on vacation and wasn't too bothered but he was a little late getting to me after I had set an appointment and I do see punctuality is not this shop's forte according to many reviews, so that maybe something to keep in mind.

I had to keep checking to make sure…read moreI was reviewing the right salon, because a find like this deserves some yelp-notification. My local stylist left town and after a couple of dreadful cuts, I started looking for a new salon and stylist. It's hard to start with a new salon & stylist. I was dreading the search. I'm a guy. I'm no hair expert & I don't know the technical jargon, so I'm not good at describing what I want. I'm also follicularly challenged (damn you x-chromosome). It's tough to find a decent hair salon that not only cuts, but also styles my hair so that I don't leave as Bad Hair Day Champion. Basically, I'm not going to go to barber shops or mall salons or any sports-themed salon (nothing wrong with them, just not for me). So how often do I ever feel excited about a haircut? Almost never. Imagine then how pleased I was to stumble upon 901 Salon & Boutique. It's in a house on W. Gray just East of Montrose. I don't usually care how fancy a salon is, but I like to see a space that the owner takes care of and looks like they've put thought and pride into it. This place is clean, bright, stylish and airy. The ambiance of the salon is very friendly and welcoming. It's also part jewelry boutique (more about that later). So I made an appointment, showed up, sat in the chair, and told Steve (the owner and stylist) to do whatever he thought would look good. Well, he proceeded to give me one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time. There was no tedious small talk, no "oops" moments, no inept directions required from me. He just did it, and did it well. It's unfortunate that a very short cut makes me look like I'm bald instead of merely going bald (yes, my vanity says that there is a difference!). Steve knew just how to cut my hair to give it a great shape that's both looks good and is manageable. He gave me an awesome cut that looks good in the morning with minimal effort, or can, with a bit of product, be fancied up for the evening. On the way out, my eyes strayed to the jewelry displays. I was in such a good mood from my reflection that I actually took the time to look at the necklaces (very unique - more jewelry store like and not your typical "salon" necklaces) and picked one up for my girlfriend. To say it was the best night of life ... well, not quite, but she was thrilled, and I was happy. I've been back there and have never left disappointed. I even had my girlfriend start going. She sees Lilly (I think Steve's sister) and gets her hair cut, styled, colored & highlighted - all of it. She loves it and especially likes the price and value.

From the moment you walk in, you just know you're in a good barber's hands--and that you're going to walk out looking sharp. I've been seeing Danny for a while now, and what I appreciate most is the trust I've built with him. I'm not just coming in for the same old cut every time--I feel comfortable enough to let him do whatever he thinks will work best, whether it's a seasonal update or just something new. He's got a great eye, and I always leave looking clean and confident. The shop itself is in a super convenient location right off Washington Ave, with a solid-sized parking lot (rare in this area!). It's also right next to Catalina Coffee and Dark Horse Tavern, so whether you need a quick pick-me-up or a drink before or after your cut, it's all right there. Cutthroat even offers a complimentary drink before your service, which is a nice touch--even though I'm usually rolling in last-minute and don't take full advantage. All in all, it's a laid-back but professional spot with real barbers who know what they're doing. Highly recommend.

They offer free beverages to enjoy while you wait for your appointment to begin, these vary from local beer to whiskey. If you're interested, you may need to request it, not all of the receptionists proactively offer but it is included. Not a bad offering and is appreciated as these aren't the cheapest services you'll find, but they're in-line with other moderately upscale men's barbershops ($40 beard trim etc) and my experiences have always proven worth it.

They sculpt destiny. Every snip of the scissors is a conversation between artist and canvas. I'm pretty sure I heard angels harmonizing the first time I got hit with a fade here. My wife looked at me when I got home and said "who are you?" Not because I looked different. Because I looked like the man she always hoped I'd become. Carlos built this place, and whatever dark sorcery he's teaching back there, it's working. This man has assembled an entire roster of assassins. I've sat in multiple chairs at this shop over the years, and every single one of these barbers is cut from the same legendary cloth. You could walk in blindfolded, sit in any chair, and walk out looking like you were put on this earth to be photographed. I made the catastrophic error of going somewhere else last month due to a scheduling conflict. I have never known such betrayal -- and I did it to myself. That barber cut my hair like he was mad at me. Like my head had personally wronged his family. I spent three weeks looking like a wish.com version of myself. Never again. I would drive through a hurricane to walk into this shop. I would wade through floodwaters. I would cancel a meeting with the Pope. If they relocated to the middle of the Sahara Desert, I would simply begin walking. If you are reading this and you are not already in one of their chairs, you are wasting your life. Five stars. Would give six but Yelp is a coward.
