Don't bother to go to the Red Lion by Newquay Harbour, total shambles and has lost its great vibe…read more We have been going there for the past 25 years when on holiday and always had a positive experience until today ! Now operated by youngsters standing around chatting to each other who don't have a clue .we ordered food at the bar , only 4 tables occupied (red flag as usually full) waited approx 45 mins for food when fourth table who ordered after us got there food it was apparent our order wasn't coming ! Our order on the computer didn't go through to kitchen, so the youngsters blamed that .Appalling experience, so don't waste your time and money. So disappointing as it always was our first choice for a pub meal and a chat with the locals at the bar ( none in there on a Friday night) No food specials on the board and no advertisement of future events, live music or quiz night etc.

The Red Lion is a solid, traditional-style pub & grill close to Newquay Harbour. The real ale lover…read morewill find several "cask marque"-approved hand-pumped ales, all well-kept and fresh, although the selection is a tad conventional. The spacious inside seating is divided into several areas; unfortunately, the outside ^seating provided on the ground floor level is limited and only in the back of the pub (without any view). Traditional pubs in Newquay are rather few and far between, and only a handful of them are cask-marque. Red Lion is one of the better options; what would only rate as a medium-quality pub in other, more real-ale friendly towns must rank as a superior one in cocktail-bar-focused Newquay. It is a popular place especially among older patrons (such as myself), and can get quite busy towards the late afternoon, early evening. The food on offer is superior pub grub, and my dish (grilled whitefish on beetroot, with small potatoes and a rather sad "salad" garnish) was decent but nothing to write home about. While I had drinks at the Red Lion several times during my stay I decided not to eat there again. Service was down-to-earth and friendly, if a bit rushed (the place wasn't even half-full). The meal arrived in due course though. Have a look at my photos for a better impression of the pub.

Once a humble collection of three silver miners' cottages, it became a pub in 1857 and is now cosy and full of character, with a wood-burning stove, exposed stonework walls, beamed ceilings and flagstone flooring, our beer garden overlooks the river & the views are extraordinary! We're really passionate about using locally sourced ingredients; all our food is freshly home-cooked using seasonal local produce: our popular daily menus of fresh local produce comes with impeccable local credentials (locals speak of our seafood-based mains in hushed tones of reverence) & are served by our very friendly & most welcoming team of staff. We specialise in providing an excellent local pint: a good range of beers & specially selected real ales, all the ales and ciders are sourced from local brewers, alongside a happy mix of customers and warmly welcoming licensees. Renowned for our live music offering & the convivial chatter, the musicians & Bands in the area often perform an intimate gig of an evening. Check out our Facebook page for information on upcoming performances and Open Mic nights.

We didn't realise and were hanging about for a while. The Brendon Arms is clearly very popular as lot of ables were already reserved for dinner. Worth noting that there are more tables at the back of restaurant behind the bar. We spotted a few people come in, see tables were full or reserved at the front and then leave. There is a large menu including various salads, traditional pub favourites and grills. There's also a specials board with fresh local fish dishes and other chefs specials. The battered fish and chips varies according to "the catch of the day". I ordered the West Country Ham with egg and new potatoes (£7.95). My partner ordered a burger with Davidstow Cheddar and Bacon (£6.50). There was lots of lovely hand carved ham and delicious new potatoes. My partner said his burger was homemade and really tasty. The portions were large too. My partner opted to add chips to his burger for an extra £2 and there were lots. He struggled to finish it. Although the food was great, it was really slow arriving, taking more than 35 mins to arrive - The only downside in our visit. Staff are really friendly and the waiting staff very efficient. Well worth a visit.
