The "Chich" is a lovely pub with a friendly atmosphere tucked a little out of the way in the village of Bishops Tawton near Barnstaple. It's a little more expensive than your pub chains, but it's well worth it! We've become regulars there, and I don't think we've ever had a bad meal.
The portions are large, and the food is of fine quality and locally sourced - they list their suppliers on a black board in the bar. The wine selection is good, there are local ales on tap, and they serve good coffee. We tend not to have desserts simply because we're so full from the main course, but when we have had room for it, their deserts are every bit as good as the rest of the food.
The only problem with this place is that it can get very busy, especially for Sunday lunches and during the holidays. Booking is recommended.
There are two beer gardens (one out front, one out back), the cosy bar area in the front, and an area that's more like a restaurant in the back, with The Den that can be hired out for functions. read more
