Solid third date kind of a spot (dark & sexy) but also a cool place to hang with friends. Cocktails were good, though we went right after the Oasis gig so they had a reduced menu for the weekend. Still everything we had ranged from solid to great. Service was friendly and helpful.

I wish that I could give this place more than 5 stars. This is absolutely one of my favourite…read moreplaces that I have ever been - and certainly the best cocktails that I have ever had. My husband took me here as part of my birthday treat a few months ago and I will be forever grateful that he did. It is really quite difficult to put in to words just how good the cocktails are. The premise of this place is that they make 'molecular cocktails' - essentially cocktails that they have scientifically concocted so that all of the ingredients complement each other molecularly. For just £50 per person, you are treated to a 7-course cocktail menu. With each delicious cocktail you are brought a unique side dish that has been chosen specifically for that drink. We were given such unusual dishes (including slices of cured meats and filled pasta!) that oddly did enhance the taste of the cocktails. As well as the delicious cocktails, what this place also has going for it is the decor. It is very sleek, elegant and gothic. The service is also incredibly good as well. I would absolutely recommend going to this cocktail bar if you can. You would be stupid not to go here. It is absolutely worth visiting. I cannot wait to return.

Ah This pub used to known as The Old Library. Unsurprising, given that prior to its transformation…read moreinto a chamber of raucousness in the mid nineties, it was Taunton's very own hushed bibliotheque. Don't worry; we didn't burn the books; the library was relocated about 400m away and at the time I was quite happy to see a new pub to try and get served sans ID, (17!!). In its first incarnation, the pub celebrated its heritage by maintaining a quasi-literary (not semi literate) theme. Local historians pointed out that as the library building was a gift from the Carnegie foundation on condition that alcohol was not imbibed on the premises. Everyone else said let's get ratted. Now that the 'Pitcher & Piano' chain have bought it, they've seen fit to daub it the dullest colour known to man, just to make it that little bit more homogenous. No Piano either, despite plenty of space for one. OK, so actually it is going to be nicer than many 3 star pubs; there's a lovely beer garden which is perfect for watching the shoppers stroll along the quirky shops in Bath Place - but food is too bland, too pricey, too fried and there's so much more that could be done with such a lovely building. EDIT: I'm giving it a three as it's probably rammed on a saturday night, which can't be a bad thing.

The Pitcher and Piano (formerly the Old Library) is one of a nationwide chain of high-class bars…read more The decor is very nice, if not a bit dark. Drinks prices are quite high. This is the kind of place to consider for an undisturbed business meeting, especially if you're on an expense account.

After a long day out with kids we were looking for a nice place for a family meal in Newquay town…read morecentre and we happened to come across Concho Lounge purely by chance. When we entered and saw the layout and interiors we had to stay. The ground floor is extremely spacious and has a relaxed atmosphere. There are the standard tables and chairs or you can grab one of the sofas and relax. We saw a fair mix of young/single as well family groups so it appears to cater to and popular with all. Both the food and drink menu is extensive and have a number of options but we went for the Tapas. A good selection of Tapas dishes which are reasonably priced (£3.75 for 1 or £9 for 3). There is a kids menu as well. We loved the Pulled Chicken and Chorizo, the Haloumi and Courgette were out of the world. The wife told me that the Squid were nice too. A wide range of cocktails, mock-tails or beer/wine is available to accompany the food. A large glass of Malbec under £6 was a bargain. The cocktails were well made and reasonably priced. The place is spread over two floors and also a terrace so I am sure you will find a place. You don't have to wait to be seated and you can sit where you like. The system is to order at the bar and they bring the food over so take a note of the table number. I am sure you will find what you crave for in the extensive menu. The staff were friendly, attentive and efficient and enhances the overall experience. Highly recommend you to check this place out if you are in or around Newquay.

Looks very classy, comfy and with an interesting menu. Our Bulldog was welcome inside as well. Had two cocktails for a start: Frozen Watermelons and Better Than Blue Lagoon. Both visually very nice drinks. Colourful. But taste-wise a bit weak and a tad too sweet for our taste. Had some bread and makarel paté with that. Pretty strong flavour, but we enjoyed it. Might not be for everybody though. Seafood platter & Steak'n'fries as mains. Mussels, clams, shrimp, lobster legs and scallops in the platter. For the price it definitely could have been a bigger load. Was fresh enough, but we've had way better tasting seafood at other places. The steak was ok. Not a prime cut, but the flavour was fine. Fine. Not more. Fries were good though. Had a bottle of white wine with that. Nice, cold, crisp. The views with the sun shining in are pretty nice here. Not right at the beach, but nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. The chairs/benches were a bit tough and it got uncomfortable after a while. But it's a dog-friendly place. That's a plus. Paid in the end around 120£ for everything. Not exactly cheap. And way too much for what we got in return. Food was really average at best. An ok dinner, but not more. Once was ok to try. But we didn't go back the other nights. Looks more classy and upscale than it is in the end. Especially food-wise.

The food is fine, it's typical 'pub grub' with a few interesting items on the menu. One of the best things for families is that it has lots of outside seating and an attached play area - both local and visiting children love it and the parents get a break then. We really enjoy going to The Unicorn and visit once or twice a fortnight normally.
