Okay - for those that don't know, Andy Murray bought Cromlix House a couple of years ago & it opened its doors in 2014 as a 15 bedroom hotel, with Albert & Michel Roux at the helm of the Restaurant. On coming here (admittedly, for a wedding venue viewing), first impressions as you drive up, is that it has been beautifully restored & renovated to an exquisite standard, to match any 5* hotel in the country. Interior decor was simply to die for. The bedrooms are higher than any standard I've been to (and I've been to a lot!). Whilst the venue itself is stunning, we decided to stay back & have a spot of late lunch/early dinner in one of the informal lounges (restaurant was closed before evening service) General Manager took us through & from start to finish, the service from every individual, was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble & more importantly, it was not contrived in the slightest. I had wheat/gluten free mini burgers & Fiona had a grilled chicken caesar salad. Again, the lady serving us was coming back and forth checking that the ingredients were okay and how the food was. The food was simply nothing short of BRILLIANT! I know we never made it for a full dining experience, but if this is a sample of what a full dinner service is for 'bar' food, this is head and shoulders above so many places. My burgers were so tender & the fact that they had their own wheat free buns, that didn't taste of cardboard, made me even happier! The chicken on the salad was so tender & bursting with flavour. Couldn't not have dessert, so Fiona had an apple toffee pudding (OMG) and I have a Lemon Tart, which is a Roux signature dish & HOLY COW, it was the best thing in my mouth ever. I broke my wheat diet to eat it & I didn't regret it lol. They are doing a winter deal for dinner bed and breakfast, with a double room, for £295. That might sound a lot, but for the whole package reduced from £495 and what we saw & ate, this is the only place to consider for a romantic night away & get MAJOR brownie points as a result. We are coming back here for dinner in the restaurant & will probably do the above deal to stop over. You have totally got to VISIT & EAT here - NOW! :-D

Afternoon tea. We were staying in Edinburgh and spent a small fortune on a taxi to get to Cromlix. We do high tea often so we have a lot to compare to. Was well worth it! The best scones we've ever had! The beef bourguignon in a tiny croissant and the Battenberg cake were also particularly special. The decor and grounds were amazing. Beautiful. We went at Christmas time. The food was spectacular. We would highly recommend. read more

Tea was above and beyond. Way more than we anticipated and delicious. My first taste of haggis was a success due to their flaky pastry and perfect amount of haggis read more

We had lunch today at Cromlix. We were met by a very friendly young girl, introduced to Management who were extremely polite and welcoming. A pre lunch drink in the bar, served by a delightful bar man. Every course was fabulous and the waitresses were most attentive. food was excellent, good quality and certainly not overpriced.Indeed all members of staff were friendly and professional. I would recommend a visit to Cromlix House. read more

Cromlix House - It needs a major overhaul! Hello, We were at the hotel in July for a wedding for 3 days. I must say the way in is spectacular and the drive up to the grounds is awesome! Going in the front doors, the old tartan carpet etc add to the flair and the reception desk is pretty cool. The staff are brilliant, I think it was Beth that we spoke with when there. Some of the staff are polish I think they are, but they are fairly pleasant. So good so far. It is an old themed hotel, however there is nothing in the rooms, the tv hardly has a picture (they are ancient tv's, no flat lcd's here), internet doesn't work which is supposed to be free - no wonder! The decor is peeling at the edges and the hotel hasn't been painted or decorated in some time. It also seems unclean under the top layer if you see what I mean... There is no bar in the hotel, it is just a room and you get the waiter to bring drinks over... Anyway, the food is magic! It is seriously good! The chefs work magic considering! I think this has the opportunity to be one of those hotels that you would need to book ages in advance to get a room or a date for a wedding. I can see it getting shut down as there is no money being spent on it at all. It is perfect for old (very old) people whose eye sight is not very good... But it misses the basics. In no particular order... 1. A cappuccino machine ( 5 star hotel and they dont do milky coffees latte etc?? 2. Real ales, also there is nothing on draught 3. A serious decorating squad, with rooms upgaded with some technology nice tvs, decent pictures, maybe sky? 4. Decent internet or at least a PC that we can pay to use 5. A good deep clean with new carpets upholstery etc! 6. A bar with TV in the background? I hope the owner can see this and decided to spend money on the hotel as it is crumbling down. It needs some investment - all the reviews are saying this i see. I think it would be good if it was sold to a new owner that is passionate about the hotel like a classic car rather than running it into the ground like an old banger... read more
