My expectations were very low considering it's a chain and the majority of my food experiences here…read morein BsAs have been so-so. But Taco Box pleasantly surprised me! The name "Taco Box" conjures up the idea of a fast food atmosphere where they give you plastic utensils and wrap your food in tin foil. But this place is actually kinda fancy, they have white linen table cloths and everything. My friend and I ordered nachos and a veggie quesadilla to split. To my pleasant surprise, the food was actually quite good! Tasty with fresh ingredients and nothing you wouldn't expect getting Tex-Mex in the US. I felt like I was home for a little bit there. Only downfall was the margarita. It was my first time ordering a margarita in BsAs so I was excited. The server didn't ask any questions so I assumed it would be the rocks, but it came out frozen. Alright no biggie. Tried it, ehh. Not the same. Hard to explain but the taste was off and unlike any margarita I've tasted before. Still drinkable, but not worth the price. Overall, a pleasant experience and a nice surprise for someone who loves Tex-Mex food. I will definitely return when I feel a hankering for a little piece of home.

The "3" rating comes from lack of inattention when we walked. They did tell us they didn't accept credit cards and we chose a table, then nothing from the waiters fir about 10 minutes. Hello, wake up girls! My husband and I were just saying it was so nice not to have blaring music, we could actually have a conversation when, one of the girls cranked up the music. We don't mind music, but the speaker was right over our heads & blaring. We asked them to turn it down and they kinda had the attitude of "what, why". The wait stuff spoke enough English, so no communication problem. There was only 1 other couple in the restaurant so, turning down should not have been a problem. We had to ask again! I hope the manager sees this review.

A Mezcal spot right off the Plaza of the Armenians! Who'd have ever thought? I am working on…read morebecoming a mezcal nerd, and certainly have had my fair share of Mezcals. Mezcal used to be the stuff that was cheaper than Tequila and not as good, but now everyone's drinking it with their pinkies in the air and charging an arm and a leg. Mezcals are like tequila, but not the same thing- smokier and more rich than a tequila. Imagine my suprise to see giant sign for Mezcal in Argentina! They had three different ones, a pechuga style- which is where the distiller hangs a chicken or turkey or some poultry breast over the vat of distilling liquids so the fats drip into the distillation to increase the smokiness of the drinks. It's a pretty specific style of Mezcal- and they had it! The Montelobos was the regular, but they had a DF style, which was also news to me. I was suprised to see that they didn't have paloma blancas on the menu, which is one of the more popular mezcal drinks- mixed with Topo Chico and lime and a splash of grapefruit soda. But they knew what I was talking about and mixed one up. The place is a bit cheesy for a Mexican restaurant, but that's often the case with the places to begin with. They serve food, but the only thing I was going for was the mezcal. It seems that they're nerding out on it, with their three types, which is far better than anyone else in BA had! This has gotta be the best Mezcal spot! The service was fast and friendly and the place was cheap. It's a staircase to get up to the restroom, so don't have too many Mezcals! I enjoyed this place- it's a fun place to slam some mezcal before that next malbec.

We have our chips on the table, with, well, that's not hot sauce, it's just red, and a double helping of mayo. Yeah, mayo, that's what we want with tortilla chips. Passable Micheladas. Lacking, not surprisingly, in spice, but my lunch companion keeps tabasco sauce in his backpack for just such emergencies. A few dashes more and it's actually not bad. An order of Quesadillas Gringas. I've had better, I've had worse. Stuffed with cerdo al pastor, the classic pork and pineapple combo, smothered in cheese. A combo, by the way, of a flour tortilla, pork, pineapple, and cheese, that the same people who object to those same four ingredients in pizza form, Hawaiian, have zero problem eating. And, beef Fajitas, that's a whole lot of sauteed beef, onions, and peppers, kind of a mess. But the flavor's okay. Again, like the drinks and the quesadillas, it's passable. It's just not enticing. Oh, watery guacamole on both plates. Thank goodness we didn't order a bowl of that with chips. I can't find our bill, but none of it was particularly pricey, I think the quesadillas were something like 250 pesos and the fajitas maybe 350. They do have an eponymous offering of five different mezcals by the shot, which is five more than I've seen on any other bar here in town (then again, I haven't made a habit of looking, so maybe it's not as hard to get anymore). Overall, no regrets, but no planned returns.
