I did a hotdog sauce crawl recently on a trip back home to Russell to help my dad after surgery. I hit four in Huntington, one in Coal Grove and two on the Ky side of the river. I hear that I have 2-3 I've missed but of the ones we tried Crisp came out in a tie with Corner Cone for #1!!!! The sauces were basically identical and definitely our favorite. I even went back a third time to confirm the two winners side by side. I love old local spots!!! Definitely a wonderful childhood memories stopping with my Gran-Gran and Aunt Edith. They used to fight over who was paying. I remember sitting in the back seat eating hot dogs with sauce and onion as a little kid. Thank you for a lifetime of family memories read more

I stopped by when visiting some family, I hadn't been in several years and the mixed reviews had me a little nervous but everything was just amazing as I remembered! We did a big variety off the food menu... onion rings, fried pickles, fried mushrooms, fries, chili foot long, cheeseburger, corn dog... everyone was thoroughly impressed with their food! We took it over to the park to enjoy and then came back by for milkshakes and we were all fat & happy to say the least! My kids were about to fight over the dreamsicle milkshake as they all wished they had gone for that one, but we also had cherry and chocolate which were great too. The service was just as friendly as the food was good. Ice cream was quick, food takes a minute, but it's so fresh and hot and worth it! I hate to say that I'm glad I don't live as close as I used to or I would eat here way too often. read more

Fun spot that is apparently iconic. Family have always eaten here so I'm not sure how or why this is my first time. It is definitely old school, ordering and picking up at the window and eating in your car/tailgating. The footlongs were good but the onion rings clearly stole the show. read more

Sign says no fried food because we are short staff,ordered.2 BBQ with slaw, got home no slaw on them and bun so moistened it stuck to paper wraper. They need to close their doors if they can't do any better.12.00 for 2 BBQ without slaw and soggy bun. read more

I love the old-school atmosphere of Crisp's. Food is in wax paper wrappers, which takes me back to other 50's style places. We've pretty much been around the horn on the menu and everything has been good. Stop by for an old-school experience. (Expect to eat in your car). read more

We always go to Crisp's when we're in town. They serve what could be the world's best onion rings.

Well it's an icon. The ice creams, etc are great. But it's expensive. Food has declined to mediocre. Fries were sub-par. Ham sandwich (last time I was able to get one) was cold, on a hot ham n cheese. But the ice cream and hotdogs are their attraction. I don't eat hot dogs so I can't tell ya! Be prepared for super long lines of a summer evening. Lots of ball kids after games, etc. And check out the park across the street!! It's pretty cool!! read more

I hadn't eat at this place in a long time and we were in the area and wanted something quick and simple. We had a hotdog, hamburger, fries, onion rings, and dyno-bites. The hotdog was my favorite but saying that I still would say it was edible and nothing special. The cheeseburger we ordered came as a double so we threw a patty away. It had so much mustard on it that was all we tasted. The fries were good. The onion rings were ok. And the dyno-bites were broccoli and cheese bites. They were nasty honestly. I believe for the price and quality I would just eat at McDonalds next door. We really wanted this to be good but came up way short. read more

I love this place. We drive from Virginia and it is always the fist place we hit. The hotdogs with sauce are the best around as well as their onion rings (yum). Yesterday we also got a butterscotch milkshake, holy mother of all things merciful get yourself a butterscotch milkshake. Been a fan of Crisps for over 50 years and the fandom continues. read more

They have the best hotdog sauce around. My mom had been sick and hadn't been eating anything and I stopped and got her a hotdog and onion rings and she ate every bite. Their banana splits are awesome love their fried apple pie with ice cream on top. I don't think I've ever had anything there I haven't liked. read more

Nice family owned establishment. Ordering is done from a window. Everything happens fast. Everyone is very nice. Food ........ I got a hotdog with onions. Price is right two is just right. Also got a shake. It was good. Located just off the highway. If you are in a hurry this is a place to get a fast meal. read more

Anytime I am home to visit my grandmother, you can bet I'm eating here. This is the go to for a solid burger with cheese, real onion rings, and a shake. They also have great crinkle cut fries. Yes it's all simple dairy shack staples, that's what it is! They do it best! read more

You have to go! I was visiting my cousin in Ashland and after lunch we decided to go get an ice cream. She suggested Crisps because of the tangerine twist they had. It was so good! We got smalls which was a good choice because they give you so much! They have benches outside for you to sit on while eating but they do not offer any indoor seating. I was very satisfied with my dessert and am happy my cousin recommended it! read more

Crisp's Dairy Treat - Tangerine twist - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Ashland, Kentucky

Been going here for 30+ years, things happ n but crips will always be crisps. Footlong sauce only, onion rings and chocolate shake. You should eat here. read more

Honestly, this place isn't terrible but it is just a basic dairy bar. Ice cream, fried food, footlongs... The usuals are all here. It's fine and hits the spot if you're really craving some greasy food or a saucy hot dog. Service can be slow so be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes if you're getting food. read more

Called in a $45 order. The one that answered was rude but let it slide. Said it would be 10 to 15 mins. So drove over had my son pay with my debit card. after 30 mins and people coming and going. Had my son check on the order. Only to be told they already gave it to him. I was parked 2nd spot from the pick up window and no one ever called our number. But after my autistic son was called a liar they remade our order. Funny no number called and we still had our receipt. My son told them to check their camera footage. Next time I will just drive to Louisa to Dee's. At least they are friendly and the orders are right and the food is good. read more

NO COVID REGULATIONS. MANAGER WONT TALK TO YOU ON THE PHONE. FOOD IS EITHER MISSING OR WRONG. Visit only if you want bad food and covid. Health department should be called. This place needs fined or shut down for good. Waste of a good location. read more

This place is very popular with the locals. I personally would still rather travel to Kenova for Austin's. I feel like the ice cream is just generic ice cream I could get anywhere else. read more

It's like stepping back in time, and that is in a good way. You order from a window and be sure to go ahead and pay so that you don't have to spend the time paying when your food is finished. My favorite thing to get is the hamburger with hot dog sauce and slaw. Yes, you read that right. It is freaking amazing. When it comes to ice cream, you MUST try the tangerine twist. It is half sherbert, half soft serve ice cream - all delicious. read more

This place used to be great, now it's horrible. The quality of the food has gone downhill over the past few years. My most recent recent order was wrong and they skimped on the footlong toppings. Also, my bun was hard. Horrible experience. read more

Timeless classic. The savory food I can't speak to as much, but the ice cream is unmatched. Totally from the soft serve tradition of the 50s, it will warp you back in time, wonderfully. So glad it is still plugging along. read more

Good food but heaven forbid if u want to call and place and or so u don't have to wait. Called 8 times and I guess their afraid to answer might have to work. read more

Not one employee is currently wearing a mask inside while making the food or taking orders.

Yes they are slow and the servers are casual but that is part of the charm of this Ashland institution. Crisp's Dairy Treat brings fond childhood memories to Ashland residents and their food is fantastic comfort food. So grab some chicken strips and fries and an ice cream and head across the street to Armco park and enjoy your afternoon. read more

Crisp's Dairy Treat is amazing. My family has been coming here for years, and we have never been disappointed. The food itself is decent, but that's not why most people come. Most people come for the ice cream, and with good reason. There are many different options of shakes, Florida Breezes, flurries, soft serve, and Tangerine Twists, in addition to just normal ice cream. The Tangerine Twist is to die for! Vanilla soft serve is swirled with tangerine sherbet to create the BEST ice cream treat that you will ever eat in your life! Mr. Crisp founded Crisp's 60 years ago, and he still works at it, keeping this wonderful little ice cream place going. I love this place, and will keep coming back anytime I am in town. read more

Obviously this place must be doing something right since they can prosper 20 ft from a McDonalds. A true mom and pop joint that doesn't skimp on quality. Their milkshakes and onion rings are the best. Go at dusk so you can enjoy the neons and the late evening sky. read more

Best place I have ate at good ice cream too they have hot dogs hamburgers it's basically a cook out restaurant

Without a doubt, the best hot dogs, and ice cream in the area. I've been going for years and years and I will continue to as well.

Have been going to Crisp's for years and years! When attending University of Kentucky I loved coming home to Crisp's! Loaded Footlong, large order of onion rings and a large banana milk shake! Think I might head there for dinner this weekend! read more

Great value, good ice cream, we stop in whenever we are passing through. They can be very busy, and when they are it can be a stressful place. The last time I stopped in the employees were doing their best to keep up but were making lots of mistakes. (My banana split was missing the banana! Still good, though.) read more

They just closed at 8:55 with people in line and refused to serve. Worst customer service ever. We were ignored when asking why they were closing early. Employees have no respect for the establishment or its customers. Will NOT be returning. read more

Use to be good but the new location in flatwoods Ky is not as good as the Ashland stop. One employee had very dirty fingernails and while fixing our ice cream repeatedly touched the actually ice cream with his hands. read more
