We asked Cris to take photographs of our historical church in downtown Austin for our website, which we are in the process of revamping. We thought - we have this jewel of a sanctuary and we need to show it off. Who better to get than our good friend Cris - who happens to be an award-winning photographer - and who happened to love the architecture of the church when he'd seen it a year before and had offered to take photos. We gave him carte blanche - inside and outside - knowing that his keen eye and natural instinct for artistic shots would guide him. Well - he did not disappoint. The photos are amazing! He delivered so many gorgeous photos - we are having a hard time narrowing them down for the website. He captured the history of this structure - built in 1929 - with both Italian and Mexican architectural influences - it feels like you are, in fact, in Europe, when you view the slide show, shot after shot of the marble pillars, wooden beamed ceiling and red tile roof. His photos tell the story of a beautiful old relic of a church built during the depression - well-used and well -loved by its members over the years. They show the care that went into her construction and design details, including hand-etched engravings at the end of each pew, and beautiful tile trim around the windows outside, and rows of carved figure heads. They show the beautiful shadow cast on her, by the elements and time, in the dark crevices of the brick exterior and stains under the eaves. In sum, Cris captured the essence and soul of our little church. Her name is Central Christian Church (come visit!). Thank you isn't enough, Cris. read more
