This is an excellent pub. It looks small from the exterior but has a Tardis-like quality owing to the conservatory extension at the rear.
The pub offers accommodation in the form of a range of log cabin rooms built in the carpark at the back. The rooms are basic but extremely clean and our shower was wonderfully efficient.
The menu is good-quality pub-grub rather than haute cuisine but the accent is on the good quality. A wide selection of pizzas is available in addition to the regular menu. All menus are blackboard-based. I had an excellent lamb shank (I nearly went for the rib-eye steak but I was very happy with my final choice). Judi went for the fish and chips with mushy peas and reported it to be excellent.
If we had one small gripe, it was the cliquey nature of the locals, no real welcome there. However tha staff were very welcoming. I guess they can't expect their locals to market the pub!
I would certainly stay there again. read more
