Rooms: Quaint, cozy, and packed with character. Not cookie-cutter; more "hand-written note." Everything felt thoughtful, not generic. And when I say "hand-written note," that is exactly what we found. There was a hand-written note on the desk welcoming us and hoping we enjoyed our stay. I challenge you to find that anywhere else. Noise Level: Whisper-quiet. You can actually hear your own thoughts--and they sound relaxed for once. Service (By phone): No manned office, but responsive when needed. It's hospitality by ninja: You don't see them, yet everything works. Pros: * Gorgeous, festive courtyard * Tons of room character * Seamless contactless check-in (door code by text) * Peaceful and quiet Cons (if we're being picky): * If you need a big lobby scene, you'll have to bring your own lobby Bottom Line: A cute, peaceful gem with real personality. I cancelled a reservation at The Crest Motel in Sterling, CO, and they still took 50% of my total cost. This wasn't last-minute--I gave them notice--but they kept half anyway. That's not a fee, that's theft. Especially in today's economy, this kind of policy is unacceptable. I could understand a small cancellation charge, maybe 10% for inconvenience. But half the price for no service at all? That's just greedy. Don't support businesses that take advantage of people. Spend your money somewhere honest. read more

This place is charming, comfortable, and clean. It's walkable to nice shops and restaurants in town. You get a code sent to you so check in is super fast and seemless. If we are ever back in Sterling we are 100% staying here again. read more

Very quaint little motor inn, nicely remodeled rooms with a very clean presentation. Throwback to those small-town 8 or 10 room motels with the owners adjoining house. The beds were soft and the place is spotless. Highly recommend, minutes from I 76 and in the middle of all the small town fun.....heading to the local brewery and BBQ smokehouse for supper in the neighborhood. Very nice quaint little place. But not worth the price that I paid. The bed was a Tempur-pedic style foam mattress but the problem was they were low-quality foam so I was sweating the whole night even with the heater turned way down. I think I had my room temperature set to 63°. It was 2° outside so I had to turn the heater on somewhat. I would not stay here a second time. read more

Such a nice little motel for Sterling and the beds are super comfy and it seems like such a safe area and beautiful neighborhood around the motel. To bad there not a whole lot to do out here while visiting. I did have a little issue to start with and that was when I called the owner to reserve a room and gave him all my info to him and he read it back to me; everything seemed fine and that he will text me once it came close to the time all the info for the room. But when I got here he had no memory of talking to me or writing down my info but thank the lord he still had a room for me to rent. read more

Update and Warning: the owner will not hold a room unless you give him a credit card number- OVER THE PHONE on an unsecured phone line. No way should anyone do that. He acted like there "might" be rooms available when I got there. Yet when I drove all the way in from Denver and got to the Crest Motel 20 minutes prior to the arrival time I gave him- there was a no vacancy sign up and he was not in the office. I told this man via email and over the phone that I was for sure going to get a room. So, I ended up staying at the Comfort Inn, and with my military discount cost the same as what the Crest Motel charges. I'm changing my rating. The Crest Motel is cute, but the owner needs to provide a secure way to provide credit card info. read more

This was a fabulous place to stay! Check-in is wonderfully easy- you're given a code for your door when making your reservation. The rooms are CLEAN and updated with cute, trendy furnishings. Microwave and refrigerator were inside each room, we wished there was a coffee pot. The courtyard with a table and chairs was very comfortable in the evening and early in the morning. Rooms recently renovated and very nice and clean. Hairdryers microwave and fridge in rooms. Town of Sterling is run down. Houses next to motel are sketchy. Here with a group of 8 people Stumbled across the hotel while driving thru town looking for hotel and food options. We stayed here and ordered pizza delivery. Sat outside. I am a big fan of old, family-run, divey motels and happily stay in place that most people in my 40-year-old, professional, white lady demographic would be expected to flee in horror. Only very occasionally do I encounter an establishment that so vastly exceeds my expectations that I am compelled to write a review - the Crest Motel is one. I was in the Sterling area shooting a short film and the rest of my crew looked askance at the yellowing vintage sign, so they headed out to the interstate for a generic motel experience. I stayed to enjoy the hospitality of the friendly owner, the adorable courtyard garden, and the serious comfort of a painstakingly updated room that looked like it should cost about twice what I paid for it. read more

I'd give this 0 if I could. We booked on Hotels.com in late June for a mid-September stay. We didn't get a check-in text as expected so I called, and they did not have a reservation under my name. After 30 min of waiting for a call back, I finally spoke to the manager, Joe. He said they automatically charge your card the morning of check in (What? Who does that? And, Hotels.com says you pay at the hotel, so that's not cool.). He said my card was declined (I'd gotten a new card since the initial booking) so he cancelled the reservation. I was not notified that my card did not work and was not given an option to provide another method of payment. I received no notice of the cancellation from the hotel or Hotels.com. In my Hotels.com account, I still show an active reservation. When I pointed all of this out to Joe when we finally were able to talk to him, which was after check-in time, he said, "Consider this notice of your cancellation." (Again, what?!) He offered no apology and no remediation since both of his properties were full. Terrible operations and and terrible customer service. I will also be reporting this to Hotels.com, but unfortunately I know there probably isn't much consequence for Joe for leaving two women who are 1,300 miles from home with nowhere to stay on what they know is a VERY busy weekend in Sterling. (Apparently the Sugar Beet Festival is THE event, plus some weddings and reunions... we tried AirBnB and more than 10 hotels before we found a room for more then 50% more money than what we'd booked at the Crest Motel. The coolest and nieces place to put one's head down after a long trip. The host was very nice and informative. I would recommend this motel to anyone visiting Sterling Co. It's a unique place and I highly recommend it. It doesn't have a complementary breakfast or coffee. read more

I went to the Crest Motel this last weekend to stay two nights for a reunion. I researched a lot of places online and was so taken by all the remodeling they were doing to make the place look nice. When I arrived I loved the new design they had. The out side was nice and so was the decor inside. But I went out that night; I left the lamp on so I could see when I got back. But when I got back my room was infested with flying bugs. There were millers, Mosquitoes, and other small flying bugs. They were all over the room. The room's door was not properly sealed. If standing inside the room you can see daylight all around the edges of the door. So that is how all the bugs came in. I was so "bugged" by the situation. I had nothing to kill them all with and I was tired and wanted to sleep. I tried to turn the light off hoping they would leave me alone but they came directly to me in the bed. I didn't want to get bit so I ended up sleeping in my van. I was so sore and didn't sleep well. The next morning I decided I couldn't stay another night in that room. So I went to the office to check out. The management told me I shouldn't leave the lights on cause they will just gather to the light... But isn't that what lamps are for...is using them at night so you can see? But all I wanted to say was before you spend all the money on decor and fancy stuff maybe you should work on the structure of the building so that your customers are secure. Management tried to give me another room but I was so bothered by that night and was so tired that I wanted a guaranteed good night's sleep and they couldn't do it for me. Later after I left they called to let me know that they reimbursed me for the next night since I left early. Yet, they weren't willing to reimburse me for the night I slept in my van. I was so disappointed. I had so hoped to find a jewel in the ruff. read more
