So i called to get a condenser fan motor replaced figuring it should cost somewhere between $400…read moreand $600 ballpark. I have a carrier condenser and the motor for it should be widely available at most hvac supply houses . They send one of their highly qualified rip-off artists who proceeds to tell me he'll do it for $1800. I just started laughing at him and realized what kind of company I was dealing with. I used to do plumbing and hvac in the eighties. The only reason I called a company to come over is because I'm 73 years old now and had a recent liver transplant and throat cancer a few years back. But I still planned to do it myself but I can't buy the motor at a supply house. Which is why I decided to call a contractor. Oh boy I wish I had read the reviews. Just my luck I called a company whose "techs" are a fleet of out of control thieves . I'm not sure if they have the owners blessing to be out there robbing people for whatever they can get away with but it's a good example of why you don't want to put your techs on commission if you won't keep them under control. So anyway I did find a motor that would work at Home Depot for $149 but the mounting was all wrong so I spent 3 hours retrofitting it. Then it took me two hours to install crawling in and out of my house with my dry tongue dragging across the dirt and concrete. Just can't find good honest help these days.
