With proper expectations, this place is decent for the cost. Friendly staff and course was in good shape - again for the price and based on others in the area. The layout has some challenges and when you factor in the wind, marsh, and those carries it is not an easy course to say the least. Some good scenery along the marshland along with some wildlife sprinkled in. Saw some water fowl, turkeys, a bunny and the fox squirrels which are pretty cool looking. It's a good fill in course during a golf trip as it's not too busy. The downside to the lack of business is no beer cart but you can load up on supplies before your round as well as on the turn.

What a well maintained course. I was looking for a quick 9 holes ( warm up for 18 holes later in my vacation )and this course is perfect. I should have went back here for the whole 18. The course was in great shape. Lovely community. And the price was awesome. $45 pp with a cart. We had a great day. I'd def go back.

#8 "tee box"

First, let me say that the staff were beyond friendly. The gentleman that came to get our bags loaded onto the cart was great. Unfortunately that is where the positives stop This is hands down the worst shape of a golf course that I have ever played. It was in such poor shape that we called GolfNow on the 6th hole to let them know how terrible this was. They contacted the pro shop to get a review on the quality of the course and even the pro shop said it's in terrible shape so GolfNow refunded out money and we left after playing 7 holes The pictures will tell the story but shag carpet greens, fairways that have tall grass and weeds throughout them, and essentially sand trap tee boxes. It was shockingly bad and a course we will never return to. Save your money and play elsewhere

A basic goat ranch. Do not waste your money. Weeds everywhere. No grass on the fairways. Terrible. Never going back here.

The pro is that there were no houses around the course, unlike a nearby golf course. The golf course is well maintained, especially around the green, with no leaves or debris. The sand is also fluffy here; I can use the bunker, unlike the cooler fall months in Toronto (where I'm from). I heard it's comparable to more premium golf courses in Toronto. It also comes at a premium rate at $77USD pp during the afternoon. The golf carts have built in digital maps which is quite handy to navigate the course. Still at that price, not entirely worth it for me personally since I suck at golf. However, we felt like we were playing alone, so I didn't need to rush. As a newbie golfer, I found this golf course challenging, even playing off the red tees. There are about three par 5's and mostly par 4s/5s. Some parts I had to strategize a bit to avoid hazards instead of just hitting straight with my longest club that could get to the green. Maybe people are just this good here?! I don't see any stray balls around the golf course. I lost more balls than I would've liked. My partner told me there weren't any beginner-friendly golf courses to choose from in Hilton Head (not sure if he was lying because he wanted to play longer courses). So we ended up playing here... bit off more than I could chew. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice golf course and it would be less frustrating if you play well and not a newbie. I haven't played in a while so blew up a few holes from warming up.

So you feel you are a great amateur golfer, right?…read more Well this is definitely the golf course to learn how proficient a golfer you feel you are versus how good a golfer you actually are in reality. How would I know? Because I lived on this Island for seventeen years with its twenty-seven hole Tom Fabio designed golf course will be challenging for any amateur golfer. The Pro Shop staff is friendly, polite, and a lot of fun starting with their Club Pro Wes. Magnolia's nine course has a slope of 145. But if you "feel froggy", then leap over to Palmettos' nine which are my favorite (vistas, and challenges) to test your skills for that specular challenge. Here is a tip: If you hit into the short grass in the rough, unless you have a VERY STRONG SWING, give up! Why? Because when the rough grabs your club and pulls your arms out of your shoulder sockets dislocating them, you may feel it was not worth it to not only blow your round (and pay the off your bet. No, not you, there is not betting in golf) but to have to take that trip to the hospital. Of course, I do not mean you "young buck" because "Yue can do it!" Lol Fees are about right for a course of this quality. The NCAA's Big East both Men's and Women's play their Championship Tournaments here which we watched each year. So I always felt that was a positive endorsement of Callawassie's golf courses. The other reason I feel it is a quality course is the over 12.8 million dollars their club membership (yes, this included me) invested over that 17 years I was a member in retrofitting this course. Another tip: ever putt on concrete? You will be happy you did when you putt on these greens. Believe me when I state the Membership only opened up this gem of a golf course to the public to help offset the very "inexpensive" water regulations the EPA imposed upon all golf courses in the United States but especially in the Southeast. Devon (tender bar) is you host in the main clubhouse. Where the food is good to great depending on the day. You have your choice of quite a few golf courses in the Beaufort/Hilton Head area but if you want to challenge your game then Callawassie's (27) holes will fulfill your need for a great golf challenge and provide you all you can handle, just fine! Hit 'em on and enjoy!

100% recommend Berkeley Hall as a wedding venue. My now husband and I were married here about a…read moremonth and a half ago and it was amazing. Recommendations & Highlights: - Reserve the golf cottages for your guests to stay in and utilize the concierge staff to help with the logistics (it's slightly more complicated than a hotel block but WELL worth it). We're from Boston and most guests traveled, so we wanted them to get the most out of traveling here together, while enjoying the amenities of Berkeley Hall. We stayed on the premises as well, and it was so fun to be in close proximity to many of our guests for the whole weekend and not just one day. - Megan Szucs (event planner) is a total professional who was so patient and helpful during the planning process and completely prepared and present on the day of our wedding. - Chef John Soulia and his team are incredible. We're picky eaters but did not want to be "that couple" that changes everything on the chef's menu; so we ultimately trusted that we'd chosen the right place with the right chef. Long story short we could NOT have been more correct. We ordered from the wedding menu, and everything was executed beautifully and perfectly across the board - like this is not your average "wedding food". They listened to questions, suggestions, and comments during the tasting, and they (with Megan and the concierge staff) met with us several days in advance of our wedding to review. At the end of the day, however, they're really just amazing at doing what they do. You can trust that. - The Berkeley Hall staff in general is unreal. They're professional, fun, thoughtful, intuitive, funny - I could go on. We've heard so many positive comments back from our guests about their interactions with the people who make this place as great as it is; and the compliments are well deserved. They set the perfect tone - balanced between "here we are at a lovely private golf club" and "but really we're here to have a great time." - The golf speaks for itself - we did a golf outing and everyone who played loved it. - It's close enough to Hilton Head that you can go to the beach, close enough to Savannah that you can get there, Old Town Bluffton is great - there's a lot to do close to the club. We honestly cannot think of a single negative comment about having our wedding at Berkeley Hall; and we would come back here to redo it all over again without changing a thing. It was truly one of the best experiences of our lives and will without a doubt be a tough one to beat.

To gain a spot on the RBC, The Players Amateur was played at Belfair and was recently moved to Berekley Hall. 2012 tournament is scheduled on July 9th-15th. As with typical courses, Fazio's, well protected and undulated greens are so very difficult, being on the wrong tier will cost you dearly. If my memory serves, there was 140+ bunkers are on the back 9 and close to 60 on the front. Scenery on the marsh end is beautiful, homes along the course are so well kept. From the North tips: the couse plays 7131 with a 75.1 course rating and a 144 slope Inside the club house has 6 dining ares.

Opened in 2000 as a private golf club with 18 challenging holes, Chechessee Creek Club also has a tasteful full-service Clubhouse, Lodge and several Cottages for relaxing between rounds or entertaining friends. I was immediately struck by the stately Lowcountry charm of the one-story Clubhouse replete with hard wood floors and tasteful oriental area rugs. The Clubhouse dining room has an intimate yet unpretentious ambience with top-tier Southern hospitality and genuinely friendly service. I immediately felt at home while respecting their long-standing traditions. Once on the golf course, with knowledgeable caddies guiding us through the contours of the greens, I quickly appreciated the beauty of this Coore-Crenshaw track. The fairways quietly wind through stately Southern pines and quintessential live oaks with picturesque Spanish moss. Chechessee's simple yet classy cream-colored scorecard calls out a 6,641 yard round trip from the championship tees while the member tees check in at 5,930. I found the small, crowned greens to be the biggest challenge of Chechessee. I can attest to the fact that failing to stick your ball on the green can easily result in a double bogey. Chechessee Creek Club represents an awesome private golf club experience in the heart of South Carolina's Lowcountry. I look forward to the next time I get invited to test my game at this challenging 5-star golf course.
