Literally everything from staff to monitoring their pace of play we gave up after 12 holes and being out there well over 3 hours.

True Lowcountry golf here. Love it. No houses (okay...*ALMOST* no houses) on the course. A couple of holes with island greens -- and even an island fairway! If the tide is in, it's REALLY amazing... but even with the tide out, it's pretty fantastic. Wildlife everywhere. The front 9 - especially the first three holes - are a nice warm-up. They get you into the swing of things. (pun intended) The range and putting green are solid. If you're on vacation here, this is a superb choice of where to play. read more

Old South Golf Links is a course just across the bridge from Hilton Head near Moss Creek. Great Intercoastal views on many holes. It has a small Clubhouse and Pro Shop but don't let that fool you. This is nice course and Very Challenging at times. Expect to see some alligators because they live there, so be becareful around the water. The fairways are well kept and the greens very nice. Most of the sandtraps are fluffed and not packed. This is a great course but some holes are really tricky such as #16.!! Beverage cart makes timely rounds and rangers and starters keep the pace. This is worth playing when in Hilton Head and rates are good. Check for Marriott and other Special rates. We have played here many times and always a great experience. Visit the Clubhouse for food and drinks !! read more

Old South was an embarrassment today. There was a group of 24 that held up the entire course. It turned into a 5 hour round. The rangers turned a blind eye to pace of play. My GPS was telling me we were over 30 minutes behind and to speed up or skip a hole. There was no where to go. We had four 4-somes on the 16th at the same time. OS chose $$ over pace. Shame on them. read more

We decided on this course based on various reviews. Our 3rd year to Hilton Head and we found a course that will be added to our normal rotation. What a hidden gem with good rates and great conditions. You can spend $20 less but won't be happy. This course is a great value and we highly recommend it. We really enjoyed Old South. As others have stated, the last 3 holes on each side are along picturesque marshland and the situation becomes target golf. For holes 7 and 16, take an extra club off the tee to provide a better angle to the green. We hope to get back to improve our scores having now seen the layout. Friendly service in the pro shop as well as the bag drop. Bring an extra sleeve of balls for your first visit. read more

Old South was a very fun course to play and in decent shape! We arrived 25 minutes before our tee time and was greeted immediately. We then headed over to their driving range which is right between 1 & 10. It's a nice size range and was accompanied by a decent putting green close by. The starter was friendly and got us out on time. The course itself was challenging at times but extremely fun. They have two holes where you have small landing areas over marsh and your second shot is the exact same. The first one is a little too difficult for an average golfer if you're not playing from the front tees. I hit what I believed to be a good drive up the right side but was still 185 out and had to clear the junk in front of the green. That can easily be two drops for most golfers. The second one has an even smaller landing area but the second shot is a much easier 150 or less shot. The greens were in good shape but the tee boxes could use some TLC. Overall, it was a fun round and I'd play the course again! read more

Great track! Highly recommend! Father and son trip, 10 year old junior golfer. They had a juniors score card for my son and junior tee boxes that are married with ladies tees or in front of ladies tees. Great mix of long and short holes with spectacular views on many holes. Plenty of water and course was in great shape. read more

While on vacation on HHI had to get some golf in. With 40+ courses it was difficult to select, but settled on the Old South in part to the write up that it is one of the oldest, requires strategy and changing landscape. Overall the course was in really good shape, there were some challenging holes over protected reserves and marshlands, tree lined holes that made it important to hit straight and the rolling fairways to recover. Two major negatives..... first tee time out was 804am even though the sun was up at 530am and so was the heat. Second the tee boxes needed to be repaired and moved. With a course requiring strategy was disappointed in the condition of the boxes, some had no grass left to hit off. read more

I cant say enough about this course, I feel it is one of the best tracks in the Hilton Head area, not only for the price, which I do include in my reviews (value). The fairways that are designed to run through the beautiful but dangerous forests are spectacular to view, as are the and beautiful greens, some of which are surrounded by marshland, a real eye catcher to say the least! The course architect was Clyde Johnston, 6722 from the tips Old South is a true championship course. The back 9 is where the course gets tougher, 16 specifically. The last 3 holes on each 9 are awesome! Spectacular views across the marshes lining the Intracoastal Waterway grace six holes, giving golfers one of the most thrilling rounds in the area. I recall 4 island greens" (sort of) , and views over the Calibogie Sound to Hilton Head. I played it 5 times and it is usually in good very condition and makes the best of working with the natural land. To top it off, the price is most often quite reasonable. And stay for lunch. The course made you play all aspect of your game and all the holes were different. My sons and I really enjoyed playing Old South and recommend over Robert Trent Jones. My group played on 9/21/2022 and upon arrival thru completion of round all staff was very polite friendly, the course has a nice layout with some beautiful views and good placement of hazards and requires some strategy for placement and best approach angles the reason for a 3 star rating was do to tee boxes was rough conditions and hard to get a level stance on several occasions and the greens were bumpy, some with very stressed areas and very slow and considering the price I would expect much better conditions in these areas. read more

My group have played many courses in the past 8 years but to a man Old South stands out as special. We are now playing Mon, Wed and Fri's and are never disappointed. The greens were poor due to some mold a few months ago but have been brought back as some of the best in the area. The fairways are low and fast and the views are something special. Fun to play. Extremely good value. Best value in area, kept in very satisfactory condition. Kept firm and not too green although this year (2017) rains have been Biblical, over a foot above the average statistically. Pace of play is reasonable, not speedy, but it's good for a public course. Water and wetlands but not uncomfortably so. In the marsh area of the second nine, there is a little bit of mild decline in conditioning, but the holes are interesting. Probably a must go, especially to start your HHI trip, get one under the belt and you might get in an Emergency Round on the way off the island as it is now extremely convenient off the Bluffton Parkway, the first stoplight coming off island. read more

Old South is a well-managed and very customer friendly golf course. Adam was our cart guy and he was helpful and efficient. Betty in the pro shop was smiling and informative. Walt, the retired Air Force officer who served in the same part of Nam that I did was a good storyteller. They have almost new practice balls and they give a large bucket to hit. This course is popular and gets plenty of play. There are lots of hazards here in addition to the Gator who lounges on a rock in front of the clubhouse. They haven't had rain in a while and they are quite dry. Several of the fairways and greens have been impacted. There are several challenging long marsh carries on holes #8, #16, and 17. These are 150 yard carries uphill into the wind over a marsh. Despite the tricky 90 degree holes over marshes, most of the holes are set up to be fair and with par attainable. The design is a classic links course with plenty of berms and elevated greens. The green on #11 was a corker. The green on hole #14 is in tough shape. They have a cheerful Ranger on patrol constantly to check on any delays. Old South is a tough/fun golf course. It's a Keeper. read more

Fun course. There are some holes that look easy but bring extras balls. Ugh there was no bev cart on the course and it was 99degrees! Not cool. Ask about the bev cart so you can stock up before you get out there. On the turn ask to see the candy in the fridge. A cold chocolate bar made the turn a little easier. Have fun read more

Beautiful golf course, affordable. However the gentleman who does tee times on the phone is rude and was short with me.

The golf course looked great. It was in very good condition. The service could be alot better. Also the should all have a cooler on golf carts to keep ur water or drinks cool, if they expect for people to buy drinks or beverage from their facility. read more

First time playing the course and it was very nice. Just enough water to make it interesting but not frustrating for my high handicap. Had a 9 AM tee time and went off as a twosome. Probably could have done just as well getting a tee time directly but I went through Gold Now which added a service fee. Staff was friendly and drink cart made regular rounds! read more

Paid just under $100 for green fees, club rentals (included balls and tees unlike HH National) and range balls. This is a great course! Great views and course was in great shape. I wouldn't go searching for any lost balls as the woods are full of snakes and spiders. Rental clubs are Taylor Made. I would definitely play this course if you are in the area. read more

Great course at a great price!!! We played the day after the area got hit with 3 inches of rain (and a nearby tornado!), and were stunned at how well the course drained. The fairways and greens were in great shape. It is a very fair course, with challenging bunkers and water placement, but nothing beginners/intermediates couldn't handle as well. The staff in the pro shop was super nice and helpful, plus I got a hell of a deal on some clearance clothing! :-) I know there are alot of great courses in the area, but this one was in fantastic shape and probably half the price of most nearby tracks. This course has always been my favorite... until now!!! We come every year for our anniversary away from kids and for relaxation. We drive almost 800 miles and always combine our golf clubs in one bag so we can fit our luggage. Never a problem using one bag. Today was cart path only and they paired us up with people we did not know which was ok even though we said we just wanted to enjoy the day together, then after we drove to the first tee, the person directing everyone, while busy with arrivals felt the need to chase us with his golf cart to scream at us for only having one bag!!! What is the difference if it's cart path only we still have to get clubs from the same cart weather there is one bag or two. I am an adult and don't feel that another adult needs to chase me down to yell at me in front of strangers after paying full price to play golf with my spouse. WE WILL NEVER RETURN HERE!!! Plenty of golf courses in and near Hilton Head Island! You should be ashamed of how you treat your paying customers! Absolutely unacceptable! read more

A recent trip to Hilton Head took us to Old South which had been recommended to us. For this beginner golfer, Old South was a wonderful course to play on. Beautiful scenery, professional & courteous staff, nice course with manageable bunkers & water (for the most part anyway). Sadly believe this was one of the best courses in the HHI area. Had fun playing it and no real complaints. But the fact that this is one of the better public access courses in the area proves that HHI being a golf Mecca is fiction.
