My experience with ACCES was a complete disaster from start to finish…read more I tried to enrol into the Second Career program with their assistance, and was fed incorrect information the entire time and wasted a month completing the application. My career counsellor, Monica, did not even know what kinds of programs were permissible under Second Career, nor did she know that they could not exceed 52 weeks. She had been with ACCES in this role for over 5 years. I often felt like Monica wasn't listening because she frequently contradicted herself and withheld information when asked directly. I was pressured to accept an offer of admission to a college at her behest -- spending money I didn't have -- then shortly found out that it wouldn't qualify for funding when I emailed the college about my participation with Second Career. I complained to the manager at ACCES, Manisha. Manisha tried to rectify the situation by offering to refund my my OCAS application fee and offering some Walmart giftcards so I could afford groceries. Even she lacked basic listening skills that are critical in this industry. Getting this refund was a real hassle-- she had me provide a void cheque and sign some paperwork for direct deposit, and then said she would mail a cheque. I ended up having to pick it up myself at their office. Manisha wouldn't close my file with ACCES for weeks, even though I said I wanted to close it multiple times. I told her many times that the process of dealing with this agency had negatively impacted my mental health. I literally had to call their office and DEMAND forcefully for them to close my file once and for all, and even then, they kept connecting me to the wrong people and wasting more of my time. Avoid this place at all costs. Their people are not good at what they do-- they lack the basic knowledge and skills required to perform their jobs. They are in no position to be offering guidance to job seekers.

This program was supposed to help people with significant mental health problems find suitable jobs. This man caused me real harm and the worst part of all of this was that I contacted a manager at the service to complain and he tried to blame me for this disastrous outcome. I called with the intent of providing valuable feedback to ensure someone else did not have the same experience I had and this organization really does not seem to care. This is one of the worst employment agencies I have ever seen and I strongly encourage anyone considering YES to look elsewhere. I am still shocked by the apathy demonstrated by Graham, the manager of this agency. He literally used phrases like "what were you expecting?" and "fair enough, fair enough" while I explained the horrible experience I had with his staff. Helping people with significant mental health issues find employment is a serious job and needs to be done by people with the adequate skills, ability and training to avoid causing harm to people with disabilities.
