Melinda Smith gave me and another couple the grand tour and I was impressed with the small class sizes and that each teacher also had an assistant to help out with the kids. Jason went there for 2 years (pre-school & pre-kindergarden) and met some really nice friends. I also noticed that the parents definitely took more of an active role in participation (unlike his current kindergarden class). I got to meet and know most of his classmates' parents during those 2 years. Anytime I needed receipts, follow up to questions, etc.... Melinda was great at response. They follow the Montgomery County schedule for holidays, weather delays, etc.....but as a private school, I felt that they treated Jason a whole lot better. Never was there any pressure to contribute $$$$ like there is in the public school system..... If Jason ever has a little sibling in the future, you know where I will be sending him/her!

I'm so thankful that my child loves to go to "my school" every morning and often doesn't want to leave! The classroom has 2 main teachers, but we know lots of other teachers from play time, playground time, water play, and special events. The teachers are wonderful with communication in the morning and afternoon. We receive daily reports about lunch, nap, and daily activities. There are opportunities for parent-teacher conferences in the fall and spring, and the learning checklists are quite thorough. There have been a few staff changes in the past year, but many of the staff members have been there for a long time and all (old and new) are amazing. I've even heard great things about the teacher in the next age classroom, so we're excited to have our child continue going to a school we all love. Our son was emotionally scarred from the previous daycare due to certain rough treatment, yet he was able to make his recover here tremendously with the care and nurture. They care about the feelings of the little ones and know how to process required documents efficiently. So far so good! We are glad to entrust our son to village Montessori and hope to stay with them long as we can so our son can grow and flourish.

I felt like Goldilocks, one was just too big, too full of kids and not enough oversite; one was too small, and The Children in the Shoe in Olney... Well that one was just right. Within mins. of starting our tour, my sweet little girl was fast asleep in her carrier. We had found her home away from home. She began in the infant room and has been happy transitioning through her development phases. Now my daughter is in the 3's classroom and I am just as happy with the Shoe as I was during our tour. The teachers have been amazing, transparent, and loving. They communicate, are informative and best of all responsive. The directors to everyone who attends the front desk, each and every one of them are welcoming every single day, how is that humanly possible?! When you step inside, it's a small community. It is very common to find parents, teachers, children, and staff greeting each other, and having short quick conversations. During one of the many conversations that I had with my daughters 2's teachers, they mentioned that her speech was delayed. I loved that the teacher shared her concern and didn't hold it for a more formal parent / teacher conference. Since then, the teachers and staff have been extremely accommodating in welcoming her speech therapist into the classroom on a regular basis. It is home away from home! My little one has had her fair share of bumps and bruises, I know that with every bump, scrape and bruise she gets, she receives twice as many hugs and cuddles. At the end of day, during pick up the teachers make it a point to actually see the parents, talk to the parents and work daily to create a positive connection with the patents. If they are willing to do that after a day of teaching and loving their students - they must be super heroes. I know after a long at work, all I want to do is go home and relax.

I wanted to be a stay at home mom. Until I met Stephanie! she put me at ease from the get go and out with with all of my nerves from day one and with each classroom change until my daughter graduated. She was even there for me when my mother passed away. the shoe is a family that i am happy to be a part of and I hope it continues for years to come. I have two very happy well adjusted kids and their daycare plays a roll in that. Each teacher seems happy to be there and really loves each child and you can see that just by walking around. The inclusive, respectful, and inviting environment cultivated by the teachers, students, and parents makes Julia Brown a fantastic community for any child to be a part of. On my child's first day back to school this week, she started in a new classroom with a new lead teacher. She shared with me, unprompted, that the teacher sat with her at the table on a small chair during lunch and ate alongside her. My child went into detail about how the teacher used sauce with her food, and she was also excited to share that her teacher taught her a new song to get ready to line up and was genuinely kind. The fact that a grown person sat on a toddler-sized chair to cultivate community is a big deal in itself, but to sit, eat, have a real conversation, and model respect and kindness goes above and beyond. From the Director of the school, Ms. Jones, to the Directress (shoutout to Ms. Espinal) and the many wonderful teachers who make up the faculty, I am so impressed. I am truly grateful for how much my child has grown, learned, and been cared for here. Whenever my husband or I have had a question, the faculty team has always been incredibly responsive. Ms. Jones's leadership has been fantastic, and I am so excited for my child to continue her journey this school year!

I wanted to share my experience with Julia Brown School regarding my daughter's time there…read more Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing and left us feeling that the environment was not supportive of helping children adjust and thrive. When my daughter was placed in a new classroom, she had been there for less than a full day before we began receiving calls asking us to pick her up because she was "not listening to instructions." As any parent knows, transitions to a new classroom can be challenging for young children. It typically takes time for them to feel comfortable with new teachers, classmates, and expectations. Instead of allowing her a reasonable adjustment period or working with us on strategies to help her settle in, the school seemed irritated by the situation and quick to remove her from the classroom. We were hoping the staff would demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a child-centered approach--giving her at least a week or two to adapt to the new environment. Unfortunately, that level of support and understanding was not demonstrated. Repeated calls to pick her up after such a short time in the classroom made it feel like the priority was convenience rather than helping a child succeed. Every child deserves educators who are willing to guide them through transitions with patience and care. We had hoped for a more supportive and professional approach from the school in ensuring that our child had the opportunity to adjust and thrive.

When my son first started, he had very basic knowledge of his letters and sounds, but now we are almost to the end of our first year and he is reading simple sentences. He comes home excited to tell me what he has learned and about all his friends at school! I am so impressed with how much he has learned and grown thanks to Ms. Hana. Although we will be moving on next year to kindergarten, we are so happy that our son was able to get a good foundation for this upcoming school year!

My son has been a challenge due to ADHD and other emotional and behavioral issues but the directors and teachers have been nothing short of amazing, supportive and accommodating to his needs. My son will be going to kindergarten in the fall, because of The Learning Tree, I am confident that will do well. They take the time to TEACH the children not just "watch" them. Add to that the field trips, picnic days, holiday parties, and water play and you have an environment that children thrive in and enjoy going to!

They are patient when she is acting a bit out of sorts (like a child) and she loves them. I have been very comfortable with her learning, development and safety at The Learning Tree.
