Whether it has to do with education or healthcare (both of which were significantly better in Orange County). I enrolled my child at Shenker after talking to all the parents I would meet at the park in my neighborhood who would sing the school's praises. I am happy to say, Shenker lived up to my expectations. My child does not speak English as his primary language, and I was worried about how that would affect him. Also if I might add, I would get unsolicited comments from other educators concerning my refusal to speak English to my child at home. I am an educator ( I have a Masters in education and another Masters in school counseling) and I knew he would pick up English just as I did. Upon meeting with Dr. Sharon, he agreed with my approach concerning my son learning two languages, and put me at ease. My son has greatly improved academically and socially at Shenker. He is so happy to go to school, and everyone in the front office knows his name, as they do with ALL the students that attend their school. Dr. Sharon has truly been a joy to work with, and I see how much he cares for his staff and for his students at school. He knows every student's name and he works with every family to accommodate their needs. I honestly believe this school's success comes from the top down. I want to thank Shenker and Dr. Sharon for giving me peace of mind in the most important aspect of my life; my child's safety and education. Yours truly, Samvel's mom.

My son has learned so much going to this school even though he has only just turned two, he is counting past 10, reading letters, coming home with new learnings every day. We are excited to continue to watch him grow and develop at Shenker.

We started with Merryhill fall last year and my grandson has absolutely blossomed! I thought the trauma of his experience at his previous school may take a few grades to erase but in a short time Ms Zapanti saw what he needed the most which with love and patience. My wife and I were really worried she might react the same way here -- but guess what, she's doing so much better at Merryhill! This school truly has empathy and warmth. Ms Gram and Ms Niemand are not just teachers -- they give real mothership. They make my daughter feel secure, trusting, and cared for. My daughter is a highly sensitive child (HSP) -- she feels anxious with too many strangers or changes around her, so it takes time for her to adapt. From day one, both teachers have been incredibly patient and loving. They treat every child equally, with the same care and responsibility. One day my daughter told me about a new boy who cried nonstop during his first week. Every time we came to pick her up, we'd see him closely attached to the teachers -- it was clear he felt safe with them. He literally follows Ms Gram wherever she goes, which says everything about how nurturing they are. Other things I love about this school: parents get monthly reports for their kids, there are regular teacher-parent meetings, and they offer a great variety of lunch options and events for kids to learn and explore. We're so grateful to have found a school that truly understands children and provides such a loving environment.

Terrible experience leaving the school…read more My two boys were selected for the their scholarship program, which provided 3 months of lower tuition. After some consideration, we ultimately decided to part ways after the scholarship concluded. Everything seemed fine until it came time to collect my children's belongings. Prior to starting school, the administration asks for 5-7 full outfit sets per child, depending on the class and if your child is undergoing potty training, in addition to other items like blankets, towels, etc The first bag of belongings the school gathered for me only contained blankets. Keep in mind, I had two kids attend this school. I wasn't given any heads-up about the lack of clothing and failed to check the bag until I got home as I genuinely trusted the staff to do their due diligence and collect everything. So I called to inquire about the other clothing and it took about 3-4 follow-ups until I was finally told to come pick up the clothing. However, this second bag did not include a single t-shirt or pair of socks. I was told they would search for those items and that I would get an update the following week, but never received a call. When I would call, the faculty would pass me off to each other, each assuring me they were working on finding the remaining clothes and apologizing for not getting back to me. It was obvious they wanted me to just forget about it. They mentioned searching through the laundry room, multiple classrooms, and other rooms. How all those t shirts and socks just disappear is beyond me. Not to mention, my son's favorite Bluey towel and a very nice North Face jacket. After waiting another week, I emailed the director, Lily Hernandez, to express my frustration over the situation. She's always been quick to email back so I was sure she'd offer a resolution. Wrong! She completely ignored me - not a peep. I waited and sent another email but still received nothing. I called and asked for her a few times but was always told she wasn't there. That being said, I've never experienced this level of unprofessionalism, particularly from the director of an educational institution. It was clear she couldn't care less about losing my kids' clothing now that I'm not paying the school. I'm still shocked by the lack of accountability, and this unfortunately highlights the sad state of today's educational climate, where any random, unqualified person can apparently wiggle their way up the administrative ladder without any genuine values or integrity, and end up running a school. Even if it's just a pre-school, we deserve better.

What I know for sure, is that he's eager to get up and out the door in the morning, and he always has a smile on his face when I pick him up at 3:15. That says it all. He is exposed to state-of-the-art technology in the incubator lab with 3-D printers, green screens, robotics, battle bot arena, computer lab, and more. The large indoor swimming pools are heated and utilized year round, starting as early as kindergarten in PE classes, and competitively starting in middle school. Other sports include tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, golf, baseball, wrestling, and cross country. (That's right, NO football!) The theater and music program is wonderful for kids that are interested in it, because there is less competition when it comes to getting parts, being that it is a smaller school. And now for education, he has homework almost every night which I think is great for reiterating what he's learned at school. He's a straight A&B student. I have access to all of his grades, homework assignments, and test scores through the Veracross website, so there are NO surprises at the end of the semester. Some of his absolute favorite teachers throughout the years have been Stacy Steele, Steven Paquin, Robin Oshins, Debby Levy, Jenn Nails, Christian Caramanica, and Liat Bodaker. I have heard people complain about the turnover rate, but it's because they do not give tenures at this school, which I believe helps keep the teachers on their toes, and allows the school to not hire them back if they are not a good fit.

Scheduling something with a teacher has never been an issue for me. I have been kept well informed about everything going on with my daughter. I see my daughters teacher everyday as she works the car line. She always approaches my car if their is anything I need to be informed about. Most importantly my daughter is thriving. She is so ahead of her peers in other schools. Challenger definitely has a no nonsense approach to teaching. But its in a fun, productive, age appropriate way. Every holiday the school goes all out. Teachers dress up in holiday themed clothing or as characters. The school is very festive/traditional. I love that my daughter is taught about what America is and stands for early on. I love all the programs the kids put on and the after school programs available to her. Parents become well aquatinted and we attend every birthday party and spend time together socially. Which is something I did not experience while my son was growing up and in public school. Now days where children rarely play outside its nice to have such a tight nit community of parents to have play dates with. Overall my experience has been top notch thus far with Challenger school and I would recommend it. This location in particular is right next to the police academy which gives me a sense of security for the school. Challenger isn't a good fit for every child. And I do recommend started them there in preschool. Their curriculum is a bit advanced and placement many not be what you expect. They wont displace your child. Which is a good thing. I am satisfied with the level of education my daughter is receiving and plan on keeping her at this school. :)

In the beginning I thought it was my daughter's problem -- she just didn't want to leave me. But after talking with the headmaster, I suddenly realized: it wasn't my daughter's issue -- it was their teaching philosophy. 1. They believed my daughter couldn't control her emotions, and they expected her to -- but she's only three, her brain isn't developed for that yet. Expecting a three-year-old to "control her emotions" is like expecting a one-year-old to control her bladder -- it's a physiological development issue. And the headmaster should know that. 2. My daughter didn't know any English when we first enrolled her. Within four months she could understand all the teacher's instructions and even speak short sentences. Yet the headmaster still said she wasn't speaking "long sentences." As an early-childhood educator, she failed to recognize this progress in a child entering a completely foreign environment. 3.Once she cried so badly that the headmaster came over to comfort her, but my daughter refused to talk to the headmaster and threw herself into the arms of her teacher. The headmaster concluded that my daughter lacked the normal ability to communicate. But my daughter had only met the headmaster twice -- she was basically a stranger to her -- so when she was sobbing, she rejected the stranger and ran to the teacher she knew. To me, that is a completely normal reaction -- yet in the headmaster's eyes, it meant my daughter "couldn't communicate properly." 4.The headmaster claimed my daughter would cry loudly, scream, and stomp her feet in class. But from a very young age she never behaved that way; even in the first two months at Challenger she only cried quietly out of fear -- never screamed or stomped. Only after being moved to a different class and failing to adapt to the new teacher's methods did she show those intense reactions. She was using her own way to cry out for help -- yet the headmaster and teachers didn't see it. At home she also became moody and unreasonable. Because of what the headmaster said, we decided to withdraw her. We enrolled her in a new school, and I was worried she might not adapt -- new environment, new teachers, new friends. But after only a few scattered days of crying, she quickly grew to love school! In talks with her new teacher, I, as a parent, deeply felt the teacher's love for children, her understanding and acceptance. She treated my daughter like a child -- a real child. That's why my daughter was able to feel safe and confident so fast. Now she's been at the new school for three months, and every day she's very happy -- her English communication is no problem at all. This has only strengthened my conviction: my daughter was never the problem -- it was Challenger's teaching philosophy.

My son has attended Merryhill School since Preschool. Here we are years later, he's in 6th Grade,…read moreand we've never changed schools. What initially attracted us to Merryhill was the curriculum. We moved to Las Vegas from Germany, where our son had completed a year of German kindergarten. They start earlier there and when we moved here, he was only old enough for preschool. Thinking we'd have a year to sort out where he would go for American kindergarten, he short-circuited our plans when he asked, "when do I get to go back to school?" After an extensive search of options, we settled on Merryhill. For those who are interested, Merryhill is a part of the Nobel Learning Communities. Here's what we've liked over the past seven years: As mentioned, the curriculum. What he was learned in preschool here was almost identical to what he learned in Germany, only in English. We were pleased it was more than just a glorified day care and that he could repeat what he had learned with English as the primary teaching language. It was an actual curriculum with distinct subjects taught in a manner that the students were very prepared to move toward grade school. Comparing notes with friends, his kindergarten year looked like most 1st grade curriculums. As he progressed through elementary school, the curriculum always remained challenging and enjoyable for him. Small class sizes. The student to teacher ratio is wonderful. There aren't too many kids in any classroom. Rather than just adding more kids to a class if enrollment is high, the school adds another teacher and class. The teachers do a great job providing for the common education of the class at large, but also have the ability to tailor instruction in the classroom (and even more so, the homework) to individual needs. Kids who need a little more help get it. Others who are excelling receive work that will push them forward without negatively impacting the other students. And it's all done without highlighting the additional help a child needs, or the accelerated curriculum another is working on. The kids just see the other kids as other students and friends in the classroom. The faculty knows all the students. Being a small school with a reasonably stable set of teachers over the years, all the teachers end up knowing the students. This has been wonderful in that there's great continuity as a child progresses from grade to grade. It also prevents the little rascals from trying to hide their past (good or bad) when they enter the next grade. The flip side of this is all the students know all the teachers, making the environment much friendlier and safer. The kids feel free to approach any teacher with a problem or concern, or to share an accomplishment. Students work with students. Related to the familiarity between all the students and teachers, at select times of the year, the students from higher grades spend time with students from the lower grades. What our son enjoyed most about this as he moved into the higher grades was having the chance to read with and to younger students. It improved his self confidence, his reading skills, and he made new friends in a way that just wasn't on the playground. Growth! Starting this current academic year (2018-2019), the campus on Snow Trail began adding a middle school. Next year the plan is to add a 7th Grade, and the following year an 8th Grade to complete the middle school. There are so many more positive things I could say. If I had to do it again with another student at the start of their school journey, I would go right back to Merryhill without hesitation. If you're looking for a good elementary or (emerging) middle school, definitely consider looking at this school.

In terms of academics, we are overjoyed with how much hands on learning he is doing in his own classroom and the specialty classes. Most days he comes home with marker, paint, and glue on his uniform -- a sure sign of a great day. The curriculum challenges and interests him and he's encouraged to use his imagination. The ratio of teachers to students is wonderful. When he needs help a teacher is available to guide him. But what really makes this school special is the people. From the moment you walk in you are met with smiling faces, a friendly greeting, the feeling you and your kid belongs. You can see that the teachers and the administrators are happy to be there and that feeling extends to the kids. To see my son skipping in and out of school is magical. The school becomes part of your child's and your community. There are lots of special days and activities to get the kids excited to be a part of something. If you are seeking a great education, a place your child will feel safe, and most importantly a place your child will be happy give this school a look.
