I needed to have my hair styled for my daughter's wedding, being held in the area on a Sunday. I…read morecould not find anyone in the Scott's Valley/Felton area that was open on Sunday, so I scheduled with Mara on Saturday afternoon. I explained my predicament of having to get my hair styled a day prior to the wedding and expressed how important it was that the curls held out overnight. We discussed a product to be used; one that had kept my hair impressively curled throughout a day of heavy rainfall (at my son's wedding), and I shared a photo of how it looked. Mara didn't carry that particular product, so I provided it myself. I shared with her what the stylist had told me in regard to how she used the product on that day with such great success. Although I had an enjoyable visit with Mara (she made me feel comfortable and relaxed, and offered me some lovely tea to help me de-stress...), this review is strictly about how my hair turned out... Two weeks earlier, I had my hair curled for a friend's wedding and was charged only $35. Mara charged me $75 for the same service. She was hesitant to use a lot of the product on my hair, for fear that it would "weigh the curls down"... and the curls were not full enough. Two hours later...(rehearsal and dinner following), my hair was mostly flat from the foggy conditions, with just barely a wave to it. Needless to say, on the day of the wedding, my hair looked like it does every day; stringy and flat. I did not have time to use a curling iron prior to the wedding. I will say that this was an unusual situation with unusual circumstances, but Mara never lead me to believe that it wouldn't be possible to preserve some curl overnight, and, especially with the previous experience I had where, despite heavy exposure to wet conditions, my hair remained full and curled, (even overnight!), I was hopeful.... It was a lot of $$ to spend, and come away as if I hadn't styled my hair at all.

My hair has never looked better; this is huge, considering I am 48 years old (and have had dud keratin treatments elsewhere)! Thanks to her, my hair is, for the first time now, soft and silky smooth, shiny with NO product, and still retaining enough of my curl to look very natural. Over the years I have been to other places and spent thousands of dollars trying to get my hair just right, and I finally did, here. I have only had the cut and treatment for three days and already I have gotten multiple compliments on how great my hair looks...from total strangers! This is my new hair styling home. She uses many types of wax for different areas and needs. She was very sanitary and professional and shared many things I should keep in mind such as not double dipping in the wax. She tests the wax on her wrist to make sure it's not too hot and uses "softer" wax for the sensitive thigh area and the classic blue wax for the hairier areas. Brita did a really thorough job and is located near my house in Boulder Creek, so all in all, go to Brita's Skin Care for waxing. Waxing is an awful experience, it just is. You might as well go to someone nice, well trained, and in your community.

From scheduling to arrival through the haircut and even paying the bill the vibes were just right. Erica listened to what I was thinking (something like Noah Wyle's haircut on The Pitt), offered her own thoughts, and then really took the time to give me a great haircut -- initial trim, luxurious shampoo, and then touchup. The haircut (including a genuinely no-pressure tip) was 2-3x what I typically pay at a basic barber shop, but when I come home from the barber shop my wife's face doesn't LITERALLY LIGHT UP like it did when I brought this latest haircut home. Totally worth it. A relaxing spa-like experience while there followed by just that extra bit of love in my wife's eyes. The salon is a lovely, peaceful space, just 10 minutes up Highway 9 from Highway 1 with easy parking. I hope they get lots of steady business so I can continue to have a terrific local place to keep going back to!
