Logically, they should give you the estimate for the work YOU asked for and then give you options to expand scope, not start with the Cadillac price And charge you for a real estimate. They were clear that they would not be able to start until the Fall, however they would start the process of design, contracting, selecting fixtures, etc... This process took months, mostly due to slow response on their part. I had to chase them down a number of times to get on their calendars. After we finally got to the point of choosing fixtures, the updated estimate came in about 50% higher than expected. The updated estimate did not include much more than just line items and costs. Many items were incorrect - stating we ordered 1 vs. 2. There were no breakdowns or even details on the items we selected. One item we priced out separately and it was nearly 40% less expensive than what we were quoted. When we asked to go over the costs, we got very little response but were told we always had the option to source items from other vendors. However, they did not if we did, they would not be responsible for those products (understandable). After chasing down SKB for about 2 weeks, we got an email saying our designer had passed our details to someone else. We then got a letter in the mail stating SKB was not interested in working with us and was returning our deposit. No additional contact. We never had suggested to them that we weren't interested in working with them. We were just doing our due diligence as it relates to cost. Total waste of time working with this group.
