It seems based on this experience, they must have thought they were catering for dogs, not located on the Isle of Dogs!
Firstly, this breakfast was different, it was an a la carte menu and wasn't the standard breakfast buffet which I didn't like, it actually ended up costing more, which was also subject to a 12.5% service charge, for example, my friend and I dined, and our bill came to £32, this is the average price you'd pay for all-inclusive buffet breakfast so certainly wasn't value for money. It would even cost you £5 for orange juice!
There is an option for all inclusive breakfast if booking with Hilton, but still, this gives you a conundrum in choice, forcing you to pick between a cooked breakfast and omelette together, both of which would be included in a buffet.
My omelette (£5) was a little boring, it tasted okay but it was slightly too salty, you could taste the unstirred crumbs of salt, an awful crunchy bite which shows they've obviously either put too much salt in or forgot to mix everything in. I ordered an iced tea as well, they had no problem making the tea over ice but it was basically tea and ice, it had no sweetness to it, but in all fairness, it was a good quality teabag.
The breakfast area was pretty new and funky, like the rest of the lobby which it is basically located next to, it has a real health food and hipster vibe, with a "Food Store" theme and name.
My friend complained about the quality of his breakfast too with the bacon being too fatty, as he doesn't like streaky bacon and with 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, 2 toast, it also didn't represent value for money.
Breakfast was served late upright until 11, which allowed me to have a little more sleep but still this hipster, health food vibe just doesn't work in a hotel, let alone the main restauraunt most hotel guests are going to go to, for their breakfast. This approach just doesn't work and was probably the worst part of an excellent stay in the hotel, which is a separate review I awarded four stars, but for Food Store at the Lincoln Plaza, I feel it barely warrants a one.
