I love this place! I am a foodie so I love to find a local gem. I work in the area on occasion and try to make sure I can eat here every time I'm nearby. The tacos and Gorditas are my favorite with pastor. Don't be deterred by the building. The food is delicious and fresh. read more

I'm writing this review as I wait for my second meal to be prepared. So, it's good. The building is dilapidated, it is dirty and in need of serious TLC. It's located in a part of town that has seen the same kind of trying times. But that is where the cons end. The food is delicious, I ordered tacos: chorizo, pollo, and asada. They were all done very well, my favorite being the chorizo, which is what I'm back for. The staff is friendly, and efficient. I do think they found my butchering of their language comical. Found this place when i searched 'Mexican Food' in the area. Boy, was i not disappointed at all. Eat here. Period. You will not regret it!! The price, quality and taste of the food is the perfect combo. I ordered 3 tacos pastor and a soda for a total of $8. This is the kind of place where you would introduce as.. "It's a hole in a wall but man the food is good." My husband drove by it and decided to try it and boy was he surprised. So when I had an opportunity to stop by and try it and I was not disappointed. I had the Carne Asada burrito and chicharron taco and they were both delicious. We were going into Smithfield to go to Petsmart and I wanted to try something different. So I got on yelp and this place turned up. The reviews were awesome so we decided to give it a shot. When we got there, the place was just a stand on the corner of the road. Had it not have been for the reviews I had read, I would have never stopped and tried this place. We got tacos pastor and quesadillas pastor. OMG!!!!! The food was very authentic, not your local Mexican restaurant variety. We were so glad we decided to stop and try it out. Thanks yelpers. My wife and I were driving north on 95 when we started to feel the hunger pangs for lunch. We abhor commercial fast food, so we looked to yelp to see if there was anything decent in the vicinity. She then asked the rhetorical question, "Do you want tacos?" and I quickly gave her the look that said, "Lovely wife, you know I want tacos always." Long story short, the place was busy... good sign. I ordered three sopes al pastor and she three tacos carnitas. We ate in silence in the truck to get out of the cool November winds before concluded that we had found a gem. The sopes were ON POINT and the al pastor is some of the best I've ever had. The meat was so tender and flavorful. Great green salsa was great as others have stated and great flavors in the horchata as well. Hungry or not, I will be stopping by Crazy Taco anytime I am in the vicinity. read more

I'm from Arizona...eaten Mexican food in Mexico many, many times...and have been repeatedly disappointed in trying to find the real deal in NC. Well...I found it. This place is legit. Walk up, no inside seating, but cute picnic tables. Cheap and delicious, exactly what Mexican food is supposed to be! Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near here, but if I am ever in Smithfield again, you can guarantee I'm coming here. This little place does a great authentic taco! Their al Pastor has awesome flavor and a kick w/o being over the top spicy. Fresh cilantro, onion and a salsa verde come with, as well as a grilled jalapeño & onions and radish on the side for extra/optional dressings. Visited on a Thursday afternoon (3pm). Between my wife and I we tried the chicken, steak, al pastor and barbacoa tacos and a side of rice. Everything was amazing. The Al Pastor was the best. Most had crispy 'bits' where they cooked the meat on the flat-top. We do not speak Spanish and we had no issues ordering. Bring cash - no credit cards accepted here. Crazy Taco is loco deliciouso! It's off the main road and you will think you are going to the wrong place, but keep going! It's a fun orange painted building with outside tables. The large menus are hanging on the walls. When we went, there was a local guy there ordering and told us the menus used to be all Spanish, the English was new. After passing this place for years, I finally decided to stop and give it a try. As many other reviewers have noted, the location isn't especially inviting. However, the food is worth the trip. I tried the carne, grilled chicken, and cactus (nopales) tacos. All were delicious, but I especially enjoyed the carne taco. I look forward to returning soon to try more of their food. In a town with an abundance of Americanized Mexican restaurants, it's great to discover a more authentic option. read more

So happy I happened to stumble on this place!! It's a little shack with cute little picnic tables outside. Tacos are so well seasoned that even the chicken tacos are tasty! And I normally find chicken pretty plain tasting. I normally get carne asada, barbacoa (BBQ stripped beef), and chicken.
