Within minutes of lines going in the water, fish started coming out. The entire boat caught their "overs", and most of us caught our "unders" by 11AM. Manny moved the boat to new spots to find rockfish, salmon and smaller halibuts. The deckhand Bora was quick to help with the tackle, and cleaned the fish on our way back to shore. My wife was horribly seasick most of the day. Manny and Bora were quite helpful. Luckily, she still managed to pull in a few halibut. We'd highly recommend Puffin Charters!

We were on a salmon charter and headed out to Montague Island, about 2 to 2.5 hours out of the Seward port. Captain set is up with lines out and shortly we were all catching beautiful King Salmon. Didn't take long to limit out. Heading back to port the captain located a pod of humpback whales, about 20 in total. The whale experience alone was absolutely once in a lifetime. Then there was a sighting of orcas, porpoises, puffins and otters. An unforgettable adventure thanks to our captain. Highly recommend ProFish-n-Sea Charters out of Seward.

He worked extremely hard to make sure we were catching and landing fish. Cole, the other first mate also did an incredible job. The captain also came on deck and was very passionate about putting us on fish and getting them in the boat. I have been on other fishing charters and I would highly recommend Outer Limits if you want to catch fish while having a blast.

Our large catch was already filleted by the time we reached port, and we opted to have J-Dock individually package our fish (salmon, halibut, and rockfish) for us to bring back home (they offer shipment as well, but we choose to bring ours back on the plane). Boat and equipment seemed well-maintained for our end-of-season trip. We would absolutely use J-Dock again on a future trip. Note that we were absolutely exhausted by the end, and had a 90-minute drive afterwards -- consider staying in Seward overnight after this trip.

We did the whale watching and sight seeing tour. 9 hours? OMG, that's too long, isn't it?…read more No it is not too long. It was by far our favorite excursion. Bill/Stan do a great job of exploring the fjord. Saw mountain goats, holgate glacier, sea otters, humpback whale, sea lions, Orcas. Great scenery. Nice Narratives. informative, but not non-stop babbling which we experiences on other excursions. It can be cool, so dress appropriately. They suggest a waterproof jacket and pants. Helpful to stop the wind, and in case it rains. There was no splash from the waters. The rain pants are not a necessity, however a waterproof/water resistant jacket is (unless the forecast shows no rain), but I doubt it. Overall very enjoyable, worth every penny. You won't be bored over the 9 hour span. Our cruise had 5 passengers so it was nice to talk with Bill/Stan and the other passengers. Highly recommended whether you are a cruiser, or just doing a land trip.

We had an amazing day 7/26 thanks to Capt Kobe...who is the Kobe Bryan of fishing in Seward!…read more Our morning started a little rough when there was a mix up on our "boarding ticket" which was a receipt with a stamp on it. The stamp instructed us to one boat and it was challenged by that capt...so we were basically turned away. Kobe made a call and clarified that someone must have stamped our receipt incorrectly. Fine, we will head out with this friendly chap. My brother was awfully seasick 95% of the time spent on the water...about 8.5 hrs. Kobe was determined to make it a great experience for everyone. Our first stop we pulled so many rock fish, we had to return some bcuz we met our limit. Second stop was a goldmine. Im so glad Capt Kobe was determined to find halibut. We found our limit! When we came in we had a massive haul, thx to Kobe. He was friendly, professional, and fun to get to know. We wish him and his family the very best!! First the positive: Our captain was very friendly, the boat was very nice. We all got fish, and…read morealmost all of us got halibut! Now the narrative: My brother (who's into fishing like I'm into Yelping) came up to visit from FL. He booked for, and paid for this charter. On the day of, our captain had cancelled due to poor conditions. However, my brother still wanted to go out (I outfitted him and my Mom with my waterproof, warm mountaineering gear), weather be damned. After some confusing communications, Crackerjack made it happen. They put us on a boat with a captain and six passengers: us (a group of 3), a couple (2), and a guy from California (1). The other people on the boat were friendly and we started the day in good spirits. The water quickly got really rough, but we endured. No one got seasick. After getting beaten on the waves for over an hour, we got to a spot that was slightly more calm. Within an hour, I caught a halibut! Then my Mom! Then my brother got a salmon! Then the boat started catching less fish. I'd say most of the fist were caught in the first 4 hours. And ALL of the halibut were caught in this time. The seas were ROUGH, and my Mom and I were out in front. Constant wind, constant side-ways rain, and consistent 5 ft swells battered and chilled our bones. (I'm a part-time photographer and I brought my nice camera, I took zero photos because I was afraid of the swells slamming it against the boat and out of my hands, seriously. This is my mountain/ice/snow/rock climbing camera, mind you.) As noon approached the captain asked us if we wanted to do a half day instead of a full day (which was what we paid for)...it was an emphatic yes from the 3 of us, and from California guy as well...who was looking very pale. Then noon hit and my Mom asked the captain "So is this when you go back for a half-day?" and the Captain said "yes, this is when we *would* go back". A hush of horror came over us. Wait...what? We are staying for more of this punishment? (at this point no one was catching anything) My Mom pressed further "are we going back now?". The captain said nothing out loud, but shook his head in the motion of "NO." This was a complete communication breakdown. I'm assuming the couple didn't want to go back when he polled them? Even so, if 4 of us wanted to go back, but 2 of us don't...the 2 overrule everyone else? I guess these boats are not a democracy. We stayed 3 more hours and caught nothing. California guy was grasping onto the boat, trying not to fall over, as he puked. I still have no idea what actually happened, and why we stayed out for another 3-4 hour brutalization. My guess is that Crackerjack wanted to get that sweet, sweet full-day money for all 6 people. So they didn't much care that one person was puking and the other 3 were checked out and catching nothing. Probably a good charter if the weather is good, though.

He set up the day for Ling Cod first and we immediately landed legal fish. We motored about 15-20 minutes away and hit the Halibut spot which we obtained our limit with nice size fish in about 45 minutes. He moved to a third spot and we cranked in the rock fish as fast as we could throw in the line. Joe was a great guide, he knew where the fish were. He knew what to use and how to use it. Paid close attention to our needs. If you like structure and discipline in your day Joe is your guy. I will use him every time possible if I'm fishing the ocean out of Seward. We were only camping for one night, so I called ahead to make sure there were spaces. They sent us to the North Annex. It is a large gravel area, with big, and I mean huge potholes. It is described as being "waterfront" but the waterfront is question is a creek, though you can see Resurrection Bay off to the right, you are not overlooking it, as I assumed we would be, from the "waterfront" description. The gravel lot is soulless, and not very leveled out. There's really no vibe to it, no charm at all, we both felt that it had an industrial feel to it. There's no picnic tables. There's electric hookup, but no water. I am grateful we were only staying for one night, I did not enjoy the experience. Those potholes really need attending to, and the whole lot needs some serious leveling out.
