It became clear to me that this was not a "daycare", but more like a "school", with set curriculum and education-focused lessons.

Over time the staff feel like family. We have have lots of trust with them (especially during covid times) and knew that our son was not only being taken care of; he was being loved. The environment is cheerful and the classroom are very artistic with lots of crafts. They promote curiosity oriented learning and explore with textures and colors. The teacher show a genuine interest in the kids and really do love every single one of them. The teachers are always willing to work with parents, whether it is about diet, allergies, pacifiers and sleep/nap schedules, medicine. They also give parents ques on how to ensure our kids milestones are met. I was a first time mom and didn't know of another place that would be so close or affordable. I kept my daughter here, truly for the convenience of distance and price rate. However, many times I would have normal questions I would think a typical parent of a 1-2 year old can have and there were times they didn't have an answer for me. Sometimes they were not willing to accommodate our family needs, yet that's part of what they claim they stand for. Please understand that my daughter was always happy to go there because of her teachers. The teachers do the best they can, but they lack appropriate training and sometimes resources. My biggest issue was with management. From my personal experience, since I am a teacher myself and deal with parents and here management was never the most professional with me as a parent. It really hurt me that we felt pushed out. They wouldn't accommodate my schedule and didn't guarantee me a spot for my daughter. They said they would let me know in advance and never did, which led me to find another school and know about my options, because they wouldn't give me an answer. As far as academics is concerned, my daughter didn't learn much there. They would play all day, hence she was always happy to go. I never saw a real progress in her learning. The administration was never willing to accommodate a family who had already been there for 2 years. They didn't care about losing us and pushed us out. Another issue was that there was no one you can take formal concerns to. They were all extremely close at a personal level and I knew I would not be heard. I would only recommend this place for your child's care if you want them to play all day and you want good rates. But be aware if you are 5 minutes late, you will be charge per half hour. I have to be honest as I never felt my daughter was neglected or in danger, but definitely didn't get the best educational experience there. This place could be a better place for families around BR if they take a better business management approach, which they have lack of.

Our kids have thrived academically and enjoyed participating in extracurricular activities. Both areas that we found lacking in public school where we felt that the teachers really did not know our kids. We've been particularly impressed with the middle school teachers and the overall middle school experience. The strong academic focus and supportive environment have been invaluable. We feel similarly about the elementary school, which also provides an excellent foundation. The after-school programs, including Cross Country, Drama Club, Outdoor Living Skills Club, and Cooking Club, have also been exceptional. The teachers and staff leading these activities have been wonderful role models and have created a sense of community outside the classroom.

We have been extremely happy with MCDS. Our daughter who is in sixth grade now has been there…read moresince she was a baby. All of our experience with MCDS has been nothing but positive. She absolutely thrives there and doesn't want to be anywhere else. They have been so great to work with! Some things that we love about MCDS are the academic rigor, the school/life flexibility, and the nurturing environment. First, you will find at MCDS that they are usually one year ahead of the public school system. But on top of this, they also place the students according to their needs. So, if they need to be challenged more, they will move them up to something more advanced. Likewise, if the student needs more help in a subject, MCDS will make sure the student gets the individual attention they need to succeed. This is so much better than the public school system where every child has to fit the same mold. We also have an older son who has always been in the public school system. We clearly notice a difference in how MCDS sets their students up for success while the public school tends to not cater to the individual needs. Either the student is advanced or they are not, there is no in between and it is really difficult to move up. Second, the faculty and administration at MCDS are always willing to work with us to ensure our daughter has what she needs. If we need to take a trip during school or she is sick from school, they have always been good to work with us, to ensure that our daughter has what she needs and gives her the flexibility to make up work. They have also been very open to feedback about how to improve or what programs that we would like to see added. They work very hard to see how they can accommodate these requests. Lastly, we really appreciate the nurturing environment they create at MCDS. My daughter is so happy there, we couldn't imagine sending her anywhere else. She is growing to be a confident, smart and caring person and we have to say a lot of that is due to her time at MCDS. The teachers really get to know the students and take the time to be a part of their lives helping them grow into well-rounded individuals whether it is joking with them at lunch, helping with pancake breakfast or teaching one of the clubs. They teach the children to respect one another as well as the teachers at a very early age. The older students participate in a peer leader program where they work with the younger children to help them grow and learn. Not only is this a great program to teach the older students leadership skills and responsibility, but it helps provide a good example for the younger ones on how to behave and treat others. While MCDS is a small school, they are able to offer a nice variety of extracurricular activities for the students at all grade levels. They offer activities like track, soccer, cooking club, outdoor survival skills, drama, and yearbook. The kids really love all of these and it gives them something else to look forward to at school. It helps to build the camaraderie between the students regardless of age and they really support each other. As a parent, we are very grateful for our daughter to have this wonderful experience. Mendham Country Day School has become a part of our family and we couldn't imagine sending our daughter anywhere else.

In my opinion, this day care is THE BEST DAY CARE in town (and neighboring towns). Let me start off…read moreby saying, that similar to many parents, I researched many daycares before choosing a location. In addition, my child attended two other day cares before we landed here. The way the teachers interact with the children is wonderful to see. The teachers are firm and consistent in their approach to bad behavior (ie. removing the child from the space, talking to them, explaining why, etc.). They are kind and patient, they teach, they have fun (art, shaving cream, dancing). It's truly the BEST DAYCARE IN TOWN. My daughter has learned so much!!!!! Examples - ABC's, sign language, how to write, even some Spanish colors, and so much more. The Director, Johana is phenomenal, as well. My daughter was having a behavioral issue 2-3 months into joining. She was ok with the other children but she was not listening to the teachers and displaying behavior that was not her normal behavior. I believe this was because we just changed daycares and in parallel I was transitioning her into her own room / bed. Johana sat me down and explained all the issues and the impact it was having. She gave some recommendations on what we could work to implement, together, to try and rectify the problem. She was also very clear on how long we had to try and implement a solution (before we would need to change schools). All things I truly appreciated because there was over communication on the problem, a willingness to work together to try and resolve the issue, and a clear deadline. In the end, I was finally able to get through to my daughter and her morning statements of "I don't want to go here!!!" changed into "I can't wait to tell Ms. Caila XYZ" or greeting Mrs. Johana on the way to excitedly join Ms. Temu's class. Their willingness to try and work with you (as a parent) and their dedication to providing a safe, fun, and educational place for all the children is impeccable. You won't regret sending your child, here.

They both have strong education backgrounds, and have been at LHMS for 5 + years, and recently bought the school from the sorta shady guy that previously owned the school. The school is set up in 2 large classrooms - the Acorn Room is set up for the the 2.5 y/os - 3 yr/0, and the Oak Room is for the 3-6 yr olds. It's a nice set up so the super young kids don't feel overwhelmed by the older kids, and the older kids have a sense of accomplishment moving on to the Big Room . There is a pretty nice, mulched playground out back for the kids can burn off some energy during the day. I knew nothing of the Montessori system when my first child started there, but it's really kinda cool. The students are given a lot of autonomy for such a young age -- they are gently guided through age-appropriate tasks & lessons, where they work independently or in small groups. Not only are they learning counting, letters, shapes, sizes etc--- the things you'd expect your kids to learn in preschool, but they are also learning to self-motivate, work independently and work in small groups --- all great life lessons. My older 2 children are thriving in public school in great part to the skills, confidence, independence and education they gathered at Long Hill Montessori. I highly recommend this school !

I am so thrilled to have found LHMS! My eldest daughter is currently enrolled in Kindergarten in…read morepublic school and is thriving academically and socially after her three years at LHMS. She started out in the Acorn room with the schools' youngest students, and like many of her peers, she was weary to leave her mommy at three years old. Her teachers showed her such compassion and patience that within a matter of days she was eager to get through the gate in the mornings and excited to tell me about her day when I came to pick her up each afternoon. Over the course of the three years she was enrolled in LHMS, our entire family noticed such a change in her! She went from clinging to my legs at family gatherings to confidently looking adults in the eye and playing with other children. I remember how quickly she learned the alphabet, the sounds each letter makes, counting, cultures from around the world, the environment, animals and their habitats - I mean, you name it - and I am so grateful for that strong foundation because she now does her homework with such ease, making the whole school experience so much more pleasant! My youngest child is now in the Acorn room and absolutely loves it! The teachers have a way of making school so fun, that he went from crying every morning to literally running to get in the car to see them. It's the personal touches - the way they patiently help him settle down to nap, the way they brush off an accident instead of dwelling or shaming, they even personalize the school's annual fundraiser so parents have an idea of which gifts would be best suited for their child in particular. A couple times I had some disciplinary issues and they took the time to help guide me through my kids' changing emotions, giving me advice and listening to concerns; I truly consider them like a co-parent! You can tell that the staff at LHMS really love what they do, they genuinely care for the kids, they're not just supervising them or teaching them, they're caring for them in a holistic way. Each day they're offered healthy snacks, guided through the work to make sure they're on track academically, and given the affection and attention each individual kid needs, and believe me, my kids can be a handful, they demand a LOT of attention! I trust them with my most precious little ones, and endorse them whole-heartedly!
