John was extremely nice and was able to pick me up at 5am the next morning. I really appreciated that he was able to fit me in with such short notice. He arrived early and was incredibly patient while I spent the next 15 minutes frantically making sure I didn't forget anything and while I let my dog out one last time before we hit the road. The car was very comfortable and clean. "Pristine" would actually be a better description. Given the early morning pick-up, I was looking forward to zoning out and relaxing during the ride which I was absolutely able to do. On a recent trip to visit a friend, Reindeer was recommended to me while trying to organize transportation between Chicago and Lafayette. My original plan was to rent a car, but the shuttle ended up being more economical in terms of price and accessibility. I took the morning shuttle from O'Hare to Lafayette on a Friday morning. Getting to the shuttle area at O'Hare is a bit of a hike from the main airport areas, but plenty of signs make it easy to find. Upon arrival at the shuttle area, I was warmly greeted by our driver, April, who graciously took and stowed my luggage. Once the remaining passengers were accounted for, we set off for Lafayette ahead of schedule. The shuttle itself was comfortable with a decent amount of legroom (a necessity for me, being 6-feet tall) and a smooth ride. Another passenger quickly fell asleep. There is WiFi provided on board, which is easy to access, steady, and pretty speedy. April was a sweetheart to talk with through the duration of the trip. Before I knew it, we were arriving at Purdue just in time for lunch. On the return trip from Lafayette to Chicago the following Sunday afternoon, pickup from Purdue was very easy and we left promptly on time. I had the pleasure of riding with Nathan at the wheel. Just like April, Nathan stowed my baggage with a smile and was great to talk with. It was this leg of the trip that I noticed Reindeer names its shuttle vans after Santa Claus' reindeer. Amtrak is such an awesome option for getting to Chicago from Crawfordsville, and not that many…read morepeople know about it. So I am really writing this review as a service to the community! Haha. Here's how it works: A train leaves every morning at 6:58am and gets you to Chicago at around 10:05am (more or less, it can be delayed in Northern Indiana fairly often but usually not more than 1/2 hour). A train leaves Chicago every night at 5:45pm and arrives in Crawfordsville at 10:30pm. It deposits you at Union Station, right in the middle of downtown Chicago. So you can get to Chicago with no security checks, no traffic, and no expensive cab fares. The trains are clean and convenient, the conductors are friendly and helpful. There are plug-ins at every seat and no restrictions on using any kind of electronic devices or phones whenever you want. 3 or 4 days a week you will be on the Cardinal line, so there is a dining car on board! I kind of think eating a full meal on a train is really cool. And the best part is that in advance, tickets are only about $20 each way! Oh and there's free parking at the Amtrak lot in Crawfordsville as well. It's not so much a station, more of a platform, but there is a pay phone there and it is nicely landscaped. I highly recommend taking the train to Chicago instead of driving or flying. I think you will be happy you did!

Plenty of free parking and it is directly across the street from the local police station. If you're going to leave your car somewhere overnight, it doesn't get much safer than that. The Hoosier State Train, itself, is a gem. Our trains ran on time and the on-board service in business class was excellent.
