The good- Small waterpark, but the kids liked that and the exercise equipment. Bathroom were clean. They have an ice cream shop in the reception, and friendly staff. Lots of amenities nearby (McD, Starbucks, Mexican, etc) The bad- Close to I70, you can hear the freeway all night. Smallish campsites, not very level either, but they did have electric and water.

We asked them since they put us in this ridiculous site to not rent the other buddy site with hundreds of available spots THEY WERE RUDE RUDE RUDE and deliberately placed 2 separate rv's back to back. There is very little space at this KOA as it is let alone park a neighbor I don't know face to face. THIS KOA IS A 100% joke save yourself a lot of heart ache do not come here. We are full timers traveling all over the U.S. and this is theeeee worst worst idiotic incompetent sloppy nasty campground we've ever been to hands down. If your visiting Indianapolis pick a better campground your not missing anything here. We're leaving 5 days early. By the way they have children running the office and I warned them ahead of time this is not the site we wanted. They could have avoided this but there backwoods mentality can't comprehend

I have mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, the people working here are very helpful…read moreand friendly. It is also the most affordable option in Indy. However, the campground is odd. The sites are incredibly tight, there is virtually no grass, and there really isn't anything to do for kids (no playground, trails, etc) outside of the pay lake, which is on the expensive side. We stayed here passing through Indianapolis, and it was a good location to explore the city. As far as camping goes, it feels more like a trailer park then a campground. Most of the "campers" here are permanent residents. That being said, I would probably stay here again, if for no other reason than the price.

We were about 4000 miles when we had our Indy Lakes experience. Truck was running great and other than being dirty from driving the Alaska highway, through Canada and 5 States was looking good. It had been a long day of driving. We decided to look for an RV Park in Indianapolis for an overnight stay. I called Indy Lakes. A woman, whose name I don't recall answered the phone. I asked if there was space available for my motor home. She asked the length of our RV and then asked the year. I told her that it was a 1994. She curtly told me that the Park only allowed RVs that are 2005 or newer. I had never encountered a refusal like this so I asked why. She told me that was Park policy. But why I asked. She told me it was for "aesthetics". I told her my RV was older but in very good shape. Her response, it was older than 2005 and was not allowed. She said other Parks in the area have the same policy. I told her that I was a disabled veteran and my wife and I were pretty beat and I just needed a place to stay for one night. Our situation and my status didn't seem to matter and she replied that our RV must be newer. A little frustrated I thanked her and hung up. My wife was shaking her head as she listened to our conversation. I decided to call her back. I asked what would happen if a 2006 RV showed up and did not meet their subjective aesthetic standards. I was told that they would also be turned away. That would mean that any RV, no matter what the year, could be turned away. Her arrogance and condescension was palpable. Surprised, I asked if they also had an age restriction and was preparing to ask another question when she exclaimed something and hung up on me. What I was going to ask is what if a disabled Vet showed up in a Pre-2005 RV that was not new but not trashy, and had been reconfigured to accommodate his/her disability, Would that RV also be turned away? Based on her response to me the aesthetics of the RV would be the determining factor. I respect a business to conduct business as they see fit. But I was very surprised at the representative's attitude to our situation and status. I took my money elsewhere. Given her total disregard for a veteran with disabilities I hope others do the same...

I was intruigued, and so we decided to try camping. Whenever we decide to have adventures like this, it is up to me to find the spot. I chose HIckory Hills based on the cost. There wasn't much in the way of pictures, and I wasn't really sure what to look for. We didn't want to 'rough it' too much. I am sort of prissy, and what if I didn't like it? We ended up renting one of their cabins. The cabin had pretty much every amenity of a house. Shower, bathroom, kitchen, full size fridge. It was really nice. We saw quite a few people coming and going on golf carts. From what I can gather, a lot of people in campers stay there year round. It was really quiet the entire time we were there. No loud music, no parties where we were at. They are on well water and it reeked of sulphur. There is a food truck type of thing that opens on the weekend. We ate breakfast there once, and it was okay. Nothing to write home about. I really enjoyed staying here though.

They do not answer their phones and their policy says you must talk to the office for a cancellation. I called several days with no ability to speak with anyone. We did however book our tubing trip for the correct day. When we arrived we tried kindly explaining to the woman our situation. She was immediately combative and argumentative. She immediately went in defense mode. It was incredibly unprofessional and abrasive. We understand we made a mistake however we didn't deserve to be treated that way. Naturally we firmly and persistently argued back as we were approached in such a manner. Ultimately she did end up refunding us (allegedly - we did not receive it yet. But did get confirmation email we were refunded) but it was after a long awkward argument for really no reason. If the woman at the front office was polite from the get go we would have had a much better experience. The gentlemen who ran the tubing, said his name was Kim. He was very kind and professional. I would give this place another go because of his efforts in trying to make the situation more comfortable.
