The chef here can cook and knows how to season. My wife opted for salmon with a buttery sauce. Light and delicious. Good coffees to finish, terrific staff great live music and no downsides. We had walked by this place…read morequite a few times as it's right beside the sea, along a favourite walking spot with a perfect view of the Mourne mountains, Warrenpoint and the peninsula and Carlingford bay, but never ventured in until now. We had been invited to a wedding and this was the reception venue. The venue couldn't physically cater for a big wedding. This one was around 100 guests and it was a tad cramped. The stage is small too. The meal was excellent, fish starter, perfectly cooked tasty meats for main and a scrummy trio of desserts. For the most part Irish restaurants deliver excellent fish and meat. The country is a giant natural larder and the cold Atlantic provides everything from crab and oysters to salmon and turbot, with a mostly soft damp climate with few temperature extremes. It has to be one of the best natural food rearing, growing climates on earth. Where restaurants did disappoint was usually the vegetables which were either cooked until they disintegrated or they were not properly cooked at all. The former was more typical. This place got it right. All the vegetables were perfectly cooked. It's also a fact or at least it's how I find it now that the places that murder great veg by overcooking are diminishing. In terms of rating it's probably a one star, there's no swimming pool, no jacuzzi or steam baths. Just a basic ten room old hotel with oodles of parking. It's not bad enough to need redecorated but it's not at all modern if you get my drift. I wouldn't change it as it's period, characterful and lots of real wood and old comfy chairs. The best thing about it is the friendliness of the staff. Like so many places now, the welcome and the service is genuinely warm and has that beguiling Irish charm. Now TH's we've been once, and liked it, we'll be back to try the al a carte. One real bummer though, the coffee is crap and like the over cooked vegetables of old Ireland it's just not acceptable to serve up this awful powdered crap any more. The problem is that the carvery food is really awful and overpriced. Our memories of the food here is just this. I took the meat to give to the dogs. I ate the potato mash and cabbage; the portion of each was mean. It's old folks home standard on an alright day that we queued for. I got some Cajun pepper sauce from another Bain Marie container (the gravy looked unappealing) and it's obviously not made from fresh in house - factory made maybe even a packet mix requiring no skill or food knowledge only water. The English mustard too is poor quality it's oil based, cheap and in a tube where it stayed. Just nasty rubbish served intentionally. The cappuccino is grim and for this there's no excuse either. Management may rebut my opinion and the opinion of my wife and our host but this has been our experience time and again over many years. It's been a long time since we last dined here. I've been at this place twice over a year and on each occasion it's been by invitation to a…read morefunction. On both occasions the place was buzzing. Also on each occasion the food on offer has been pizza, sandwich and breadcrumbed chicken based. Once we were in the ground floor and once upstairs. The upstairs room we were in has a great harbour view. This type of food tends to be accompanied by industrial made garlic mayonnaise and sweet chilli sauce out of a bottle. The pizzas are darn good and four star on their own and this was our experience each time but I found the sandwiches and the breaded chicken just ok and the service was poor and haphazard. The food also came out far too slowly both times. If we ever go for something to eat here we'd probably opt for pizza but I find it unlikely that we'll bother. On our most recent visit about 50 guests were being attended to by one server so this was poor. I asked him for salt as we didn't have any. While my request was acknowledged it never actually arrived. I overheard server saying that they had suffered a power cut that weekend. One great plus here is the huge and diverse range of beers and gins on offer. In fact it's pretty unique in the area in that respect.

The care Joei took to fitting us, and getting to know us added to a fantastic experience in Carlingford. The ride is gorgeous along the coast hugged by the fjords, as well. This is an amazing caravan site, definitely recommended for summer holidays, during the winter, or…read morefor a nice day out. It has a big park, a tennis court, a football pitch, a boat or jet ski slipway, and brilliant views of the sea. Whether it is to go swimming, a picnic, or a day with the dog, this caravan site is the place to go. You make friends quickly and it's easy to go up to the town ( five minutes away ) and get the groceries, or a treat for your kids. The caravans are brilliant, just so cosy to live in. The people who own the place are so kind, they do get the job done. The picture I taken below was the caravan site lit up at night, but it is so much more beautiful in the morning. During the summer, it is so warm, and in the winter, you always are comfortable with the blankets and heating. Gas prices are good, definitely the best place to go!
