I was tasked with arranging the main entrée for the ECU North Medical Community Thanksgiving meal--with just three days' notice. Together, we arranged for ham, cornbread, butter, and honey--carefully planned based on the number of people expected to attend. On the morning of the event, Travis, the manager on duty, personally took my call and assured me everything would be ready right on time. Yelp 100 Challenge 2025 - #60 Visited on Black Friday for breakfast and they offered a limited menu. Menu options still included their popular items such as the Grandma's Pancakes, Grandpa's Sampler, and lunch options. I joined the waitlist online and only waited 15 mins instead of the 35 mins because of the time I joined. Our server was sweet and attentive and stopped by often to check in and refill water. I've been to this Cracker Barrel dozens of time with great service. However, it has really gone downhill. We waited for 45 min for a table. I understand if there was a huge crowd but they only had 11 tables seated. The hostess stand was empty for about 20 minutes and the two cashiers said nothing as about 12 people waited. In the 45 minutes, they say no tables, no manager made an appearance, and all 12 people eating walked out. Horrible service. read more

There were five of us and we came here for lunch on a Saturday. Like any Cracker Barrel, it was crowded, especially on the weekends. However, we were seated relatively quickly. Our waitress got our drink orders wrong three times. We only had sodas and water. We had to ask for part of our order after she thought she had given us everything. We tried to get help from another server when our waitress was gone a long time, but she just looked at us and walked away. I recommend getting gas station sushi before eating here. read more

The worst experience I have ever had at a Craker Barrel ever. We had been traveling all day. We did not plan to go as far as Roanoke Rapids, but we were unable to find an available hotel room in Rocky Mount, so we had to go forward to Roanoke Rapids. By the time that we got settled in a hotel room, we arrived at Cracker Barrel at about 9:30 and they were open until 10 PM. There was no hostess at the stand when we arrived. We were completely ignored by several servers that passed by several times. I asked to cashier if there was a hostess that could seat us and she said, "There usually is". Thanks for that help. Eventually, a server did come over and seat us and said she would take care of us. She took a drink order and then came back and told us she had been cut, so someone else would-be taking care of us. Another server did bring our drinks and took our order. As we waited for our food, the server was doing closing work around us and putting all the chairs on the tables around us. She could not have made us feel less welcome if she tried twice as hard. When the food finally arrived, it was the worst - it was cold; my mother's chicken tenders were so over cooked, they were not edible; the bread choices that were supposed to come with the meals were never served. I would have told the server about these issues had she ever come back to check on us, but she was too busy with closing work than to check on us. I recognize that we arrived very close to closing time, but they should not have sat us if they did not want to serve us. If they had offered take out to us instead, we would have taken that. I saw plenty of take-out orders going out while we sat there. And I bet those orders were hot and came with all the food that it should have. I was always under the impression that Cracker Barrel was all about taking care of feeding travelers. This location failed this mission greatly. read more

Gross, even worse than my already low expectations. My chicken fried steak was essentially meatless. It's like they somehow fried up the coating only, and served it with a wallpaper paste they call "gravy." Vegetables were overcooked and disgusting. Salad was just a gross mess of old lettuce and chopped ham and shredded crappy cheese. Service is slow. Getting a beer was just ridiculous. I was carded. I am in my 50s and look it. Just absurd. Weirdly, the whole place stank of smoke, like they were smoking ham in the back or something. On Saturday, August 31st, I went to Cracker Barrel for takeout of my favorite dish (Chicken & Dumplings) to carry back to my hotel. While the takeout service experience was good, my food was not. It was very dry, and I'm not sure what was happening with the chicken, but it was disgusting. I was so disappointed, and that's very rare. What is going on with Cracker Barrel? It's unacceptable. Opened the bag and was missing the hash brown casserole, the fried apples, biscuits and gravy and the sweet tea I ordered as part of my country boy breakfast. Instead, I got ham eggs and grits. I asked about my biscuits and gravy since it was missing and my partners biscuit that should've came with her meal the waitress ignored what I said until another person brought up they were missing their biscuit to which she rolled her eyes and said she'll bring biscuits out for the table. While we were waiting for our checks she told the table behind us that they have fried apples and brought them to their table after telling us they were completely out. When I paid for my check I was asked about the service and if we enjoyed our meal which I brought up that mine was missing a full part of it and my partners biscuit was missing her biscuit as well. We are a party of 7 that came in on a Sunday evening. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated. The restaurant only had a handful of tables occupied. We were disappointed to learn that the restaurant was out of lemons so I had to choose an alternative option. My hashbrown casserole shepherd pie was the best thing delivered to the table. Though it is aadvertised as being very crispy it was definitely very soggy. But it was still flavorful. My husband had country fried steak with fries and okra. The entire meal tasted like cardboard. The biscuits that came with our meal were very flat. I think something went wrong in the baking process, but they did taste okay. We asked for honey that never came. Despite there being so little people in the restaurant, we also waited an extremely long time for our food and drunk refills. It was just all around not a good experience. When asked about it we were told it was because we asked for onions with our pinto beans. Never have we ever been charged for requesting onions on pinto beans and should have been told. Not my favorite location of this restaurant chain but I will say that Cracker Barrel has a very successful formula that works every time. The food is consistently delicious and inexpensive and the staff is always warm and polite. The young lady who was our server was very nice but she has to work on paying attention to detail. For example, we ordered the country lemonade (regular and raspberry) that comes with unlimited refills and a few times we had to wave her down for refills. I feel like that's something that she should have spotted and asked automatically. My cousin ordered a breakfast platter that came with a bowl of country gravy and she decided to leave out the biscuits that came with it. My cousin only knew because he orders this same item regularly. She lost a few points with that. Note: Order the Grandma's sampler breakfast (not on the menu but just ask for it).
