There were plenty of places to sit and enjoy. There was plenty of room for everyone to read without standing on top of one another. She's a huge fan, and use to do some kind of work at an art museum in Washington DC, so this place seemed up her alley. She graciously paid $90 for our tickets ($40/adult + taxes and fees), and was sorely disappointed. The old huge warehouse was renovated into a small showcase of Van Gogh art via a few tv monitors and interpreted art sculptures that represent Van Gogh's themes. The main event is the 30 min art instillation that projects on the walls, with strobe lighting and loud music..which is the immersive experience that you're essentially paying for. Of course, there's an overpriced gift shop area..with posters, t-shirts, and art jigsaw puzzles..and a mini bar with over priced snacks items. We were happy to support the culture..but this not truly worth the cost. Thankfully the restrooms were clean (but did not contain any changing tables..and auntie Nneka changed a poopy diaper!!). Also, there was air conditioning and welcoming staff members who were helpful and offered to take our pictures with any of the life sized sculptures. So, its a nice effort..but only if you trying to be supportive of the cause..otherwise..semi hard pass on this one.

The actors were extraordinary and did not take away from the original show! They actually inspired and enhanced. The theater has all the attributes of a larger theater just down scaled. Smaller rest rooms, concession stand, and of course smaller space. I was able to see very well from row G. There is Left (L) and Right seating but with the same alphabet/numbering system, so there were a few people that was a bit confused as to where they should sit. Limited parking on the premises, but there is street parking. I would recommend support small local theatre as much as one can. They have a variety to select from as well as season passes. A great way to spend an afternoon.

There are tons of things you can do such as painting, oil making, and candle making. The challenge was we paid in advance for what we thought was the full experience. When we arrived it was just to enter the building. We still had to pay for the experience. We decided on candle making. I have done this with another group so this was a different experience. The young lady gave us a book to read and the supplies. No one walked us through the process. She did bring the wax and labels at the end. It was a quick session. I like having an actual experience and engagement during the process. Like my candle but was hoping for a little more. Maybe if I had a large group it would be different. The staff person was really nice. It just the entrance cost and hands off was my biggest challenge.

Lights, Camera, DRAGONS!!!!!…read more While visiting Charlotte planning my trip to charlotte I noticed the Children's Theatre of Charlotte was putting on one of my daughter's favorite children's book, Dragons Love Tacos! I bought tickets before we even had a hotel booked! We arrived the day of with our dragon in hand (that came with our copy of Dragons Love Tacos 2) and my toddler son decked out in his dragon sweat suit. We were ready! Our show was on a Saturday at 3pm. If you arrived at 2pm there was a free behind the scenes tour of the theater. We of course took full advantage! 2pm we were squished with many of the other patrons all ready for the free tour. We were greeted and then moved into the theater. It seamed like over half the audience that day showed up for the tour! This made it difficult to move as a group through the backstage and hear everything being said. Was it cool to see where they make the sets and store the props? Yes! It was great feature I am thankful they offered but maybe needs more organizing for large groups. Another little tip for their tour guides, don't tell us what we cant see (costume area) because of the large group. Just bummed me out (and if it wasn't said I wouldn't have thought we missed out!) Also it was posed before the show arts and crafts available. Once the tour ended we were asking around about the crafts. we saw people with crafts. People had no idea! More organization needed as the crafts were taking place inside the library! We showed up with only a few minutes to do crafts because we wasted time asking people about the crafts! The show... not totally like the book but close. My 10 year old thought it was a little too young for her and my 1 year old was quiet for the whole hour! The 4 year old with us, he was mesmerized! So I would suggest when they say children's, aim for kids under 8 here. The production was pretty good with great visuals and a great destruction scene! This is not low budget by any means. Cool thing they did, after the show they let people stay behind and showed how the crew talks to one another on their headsets to make the action happen on stage! (This was geared more toward a 10 year old as opposed to a 4 year old understand what was really happening.) What could have been better? Let people enjoy the show more. The staff working in the audience were intense. I was approached by a kid, like 12 years old, who told me I couldn't give my 1 year old his bottle and the other two kids had to put away their candy. At no point at the beginning of the show was an announcement made about food/drinks in the auditorium. I am a rule follower. I would oblige. But not letting my 1 year old get his bottle seams a lot ridiculous! I kept watching the ushers go up to many other patrons about use of cell phones and everything else. It was distracting. Calm down folks. We came for the dragons. Speaking of which, I told my daughter when we bought the tickets: I don't know how they will make dragons appear on stage so it could be amazing or terrible but either way we will never forget what we will see. Truth: we will never forget. (The Dads wholeheartedly agree!)

We were on the front row center this time and loved it! The actors in this production were spot on and I loved the OCT adaption of the book/movie. The comedic moments had us laughing, but the serious moments were quite powerful in this intimate setting, and even though I knew the story, found myself leaning towards the stage waiting to see what was next! Visit the website for upcoming plays and patronize this precious hometown gem, you won't be disappointed! There is local artwork for sale in the lobby and light refreshments offered as well for reasonable prices. For every play I've attended at least part of the cast is mingling with the patrons following the play and I just adore that! The small cast playing multiple characters with quick costume and character changes was especially impressive. I really enjoyed the show. It was funny, entertaining, and very well performed. We had no expectations for the place since we've never been any place similar. Tipsy Paintbrush is a BYOB art studio that offers weekly classes focusing on various pictures and is available for private parties. There's also a rotating list of artists that teach the classes and offer painting techniques. On the day we attended, our class was full and picture of the night was sunflowers. It's a bright but small studio space. Parking is to be found on the street (namely Charles street which is located behind the studio) since the place only has four to five spaces to its name. There are rows of tables and stools with canvasses that have a sketch of the picture already drawn out. Classes are two hours. As for BYOB, you can bring bottles of wine/beer/spiked cider, etc that can be either be kept at your station or at the back to be shared with the rest of the class. Also, you can bring in snacks (various dips/salsas/crackers/popcorn/cheeses/etc). There are plastic cups and wine glasses available should you not bring any of your own (we brought in our own glasses). The only gripe I have is that the personal station space is pretty tight. In between having space for the canvas, paint, water glass, wine glass/beer bottle, and possible snack, there's not much room to put everything. Once class begins, the instructor will walk you through the science of color mixing and different techniques to bring the painting to life. The most important thing to remember is to have fun. It's just paint! Don't go in with such a critical view of how your work comes out. Our instructor of the night was Gina and she was great. She was really patient and offered some good painting tips! I HIGHLY recommend the Tipsy Paintbrush for a fun night out!

The two instructors chose to delay starting the class untill all participants arrived. The class was scheduled to last two hours. After thirty minutes (at 7:30), the class had STILL not started. That is one fourth of the scheduled class time wasted because of late participants. I had other plans after nine o' clock, so I had to leave without painting, A few people should not be allowed to waste the time of people who show up on time. Very bad policy! I was an art teacher for 25 years, and if people were late for class, I would help them catch up....NOT hold up instruction for the majority. I lost my money....not going back! I agree with another reviewer that too many participants were scheduled so the space was simply too tight.
