Some Shoppers Drug Mart (SDM) stores have a home health care store that is separate from the drugstore and is often next door. It appears that these home health care stores have been rebranded and are known as Wellwise by SDM. After my doctor's appointment, I was in need of a wrist spica splint for my slightly swollen wrist and irritated thumb. My go-to drugstore did not carry it. I visited the SDM at highway 7 and Warden. I got a helpful pharmacist who said that he only had a finger splint. He recommended visiting this Wellwise store. He pointed me into the right direction. The store is two doors down from SDM, which is next to T&T. On a Saturday, the parking lot is super busy with folks who cannot back out of parking spots to survive. After seeing a woman take her sweet time backing out and leaving in front of me, I swooped into a spot closer to CIBC and walked over to Wellwise. I saw the splints at the back of the store. Never having worn one, I had no idea which one I needed. I lined up at the front and a female staff member was great helping me out. She recommended the longer wrist-thumb splint. She gave me a medium to try. It fit, but I needed something larger. The one that I settled for is black with red trim, which reminds me of my high school colours. The other one that didn't come in a large was all black. I tried the former on and it was comfortable considering how crazy it appeared. It looks like a mini straitjacket. I had a prescription, so the woman took some time to create an official receipt for me for my claim. She was great. My local pharmacy gave me a photocopy of my prescription, which was faint. I helped the woman with my address and phone number, as they were difficult to read on the prescription. This woman was thorough. She wanted to make sure that spica splint on the prescription was okay for the splint model that I was about to purchase. She checked with her colleague and it was all good. Yay! I paid with a debit card. There is no tax on this type of splint. You can also use your PC Optimum card here to get points. Bonus! I thanked this woman for all her help. I walked out with my new splint in its box. I am probably different when it comes to looking forward to wearing a splint. I simply wanted some relief and help. I got to my car and immediately put it on. I've had it for almost a day now. It's comfortable to wear. I drove fine with it on. I do need to adjust how I type, which keeps my left thumb off the spacebar. I like it. I slept well in it. I also feel like I have superpowers with it on, but I don't! I had excellent help getting a wrist-thumb splint. I got great care and customer service. I also learned so much about splints. It was quite the crash course to find one that suited my ailment. I hope that I don't need to return to this store, but know that you are in good hands if you do need something here. (202)

The chair was working fine until one week ago it stopped working completely. I called MEDabilty and was informed that it was under warranty, however we would have to pay $175 plus GST for a representative to check out the problem. I was asked to give them all the info required to explain what the problem was. A representative was sent out to my Mothers (95 yrs old) and assessed the problem to be a faulty control box. They could not fix on site and we were informed the chair would be fixed when the part was available. When the part came in, they called me to arrange anther appointment and informed me there would be another $152.00 to replace the defective part. Unfortunately we had no recourse but to pay again or the chair would not be repaired. This is probably one of the biggest scams I have ever dealt with. The warranty is a joke and I would recommend that purchasing a PRIDE chair is not a good idea and purchasing from MEDabilty would not be a good place to purchase these products from. It is obvious, this company is really great when buying but not so great when warranty issues arise. There are many other companies out there that provide much better service so just be aware to check these companies before even considering this company that is much more concerned with making extra money on warranty repairs than actually providing a good service. Since then, she has been apprehensive using said staircase. I don't blame her, despite making an impressive recovery. We got an occupational therapist (OT) assigned to us. She visited my parents' place and suggested getting a stairlift. She said that the March of Dimes (MoD) had a home and vehicle modification program. You had to get a stairlift estimate and fill out a form. She gave me a list of vendors. It was for everything from walking canes to stairlifts. I had to sift through it to find maybe five stairlift vendors. I contacted all five to see who would reply. The first one was Mobility 101. This location in Pickering serves eastern Ontario. James called me. He is a mobility consultant who filled me in on the MoD process. Our OT never said who would fill out the application. With his expertise, he said that she would the one and I'd simply forward his estimate with photos to her. We arranged for a time and date for him to come over to my parents' place to take a look at the curved staircase. It's more money and complex to have a stairlift for a curved one. What was great about James was his sending me his bio with a photo before his visit. It was a nice touch. He came over. He was friendly and knowledgeable. He looked at the staircase, and let us know how much it would be and what options we had. He managed to get the estimate down to $16,000. Stairlifts aren't cheap! He took photos and provided more details about Mobility 101. I sent his estimate and photos to the OT. That's when she sent me the income limits. I wish that I had them earlier. Both my parents are retired, but their income exceeds the MoD's limit to be eligible for stairlift funding. I was bummed out. My parents were okay shelling out for the stairlift. Our OT said that we should apply for the Home Accessibility Tax Credit when my parents do their 2025 income tax return. They may be able to get some money back. James made an appointment to get Matt, the owner, to come over to photo-survey the staircase. I also got Matt's bio from James. James came over with his gear. He has an application, a scanner, and a laptop that captures staircase measurements based on markers that he places on the staircase. Sadly, when he booted up his laptop, it was dead. The battery had drained and he didn't bring his charger with him. Bummer. It was a Friday. We rescheduled for Monday. He said 1:30 pm. It turned out that his appointment before ours had ended early. He called me to say that he'd show up almost an hour earlier. He did have a fully charged laptop and let me observe his scanning process. I liked that he let me see the entire process. This appointment required paying 50% of the stairlift. After its installation, the other 50% of the payment was needed. Technology is interesting. Getting measurements through scanning markers was cool. Getting my dad to make these two payments through the app on my phone was another. We got it done! James had extremely accurate estimates on when things would be done. My dad is super anxious about dates and seemed to want everything now. Matt had buffers in place. He said that he'd send me the final measurements of the stairlift after engineers vetted it. Once we approved them, he'd move the stairlift into production, which would take between two to three weeks. It only took a week to complete! I got a call last Friday to set up installation for Tuesday at 10 am. I let the person on the other end (I forget his name) that I had a dental appointment that typically ends at 10 am. I asked if we could do 10:30 am. Yes! I got an estimate of four hours to install and train us on how to use the stairlift. It was much appreciated. It allowed plenty of time to remove the railing on the wall where the stairlift track would be installed. Matt and Larry were the two installers. They were careful to lay down mats on the hardwood floor with their tools and parts. They worked diligently to get the stairlift installed. They consulted with us on a few details, such as where the charging station would be (ground floor) and more. Larry did the training. He was thorough with the demo, which included my taking the stairlift up and down. It felt like a relaxed amusement park ride. It was smooth. He works part-time as a tradesman. It explains why I didn't get his bio. I got it verbally, which I liked. If you need a stairlift, I'd highly recommend 101 Mobility in Pickering. They care and are competent. The stairlift has been great so far with helping my mom move between two floors with ease and without any apprehension. (449)

The fridges for their frozen food don't have lights turned on inside. There is no Canada Post inside. The staff are courteous. The store is clean. When the west sun comes in, the are very bright streaks and relatively dark areas. I came here looking for children's Motrin or Tylenol but pharmacies throughout Ontario are out of stock. I also wanted to buy Tide laundry detergent scent-free on sale $4.99 or $3.99 but it hasn't been on sale for at least 12 months. No luck here either! So I am trying a morning free scent for $3.99. I also bought lottery tickets. There is no free WiFi. Almost every item had a tester product, which we really appreciated. There was quite a few people working, and most of them were knowledgeable about the products. They helped us choose the appropriate equipment and answered almost all of our questions. I caught wind of someone having an appointment here. I'm not sure what it was for, but if you have any health issues it's worth checking out. First impression is that the decoration is boring 4 walls, a boring ceiling and a boring floor. For merchandises, you won't find flu medicine, beauty products and groceries here. Instead, the store is filled with health care supplies and equipment such as electric scooters, walkers, canes, Don Joy hinged knee braces (the types that look like the one Terry Fox wore), other types of knee braces that are for medical/physiotherapy purposes, a full rack of Obus Forme products with selections I have never heard of, etc.. In short, this is a real health care store that carries supplies and equipment that are too hard core for Walmart and PharmaPlus, and a pretty looking store is not required for marketing purpose. The services experience I had was good. This had something to do with the high staff/sq footage ratio. This services level was necessary because most new customers need assistance to choose the right product, the right brand of product, or in my case, custom fitted the product. At least for the product I was buying, the sales lady was obviously trained to perform the fitting. I can imagine that certain staffs are assigned to support 1 department only because of the customized training and experience required. SHHC will provide you with a receipt for insurance claim purpose. Please remember to check with your company insurance for documentation requirement, such as medical doctor prescription note. The reason I deduct 1 star is because SHHC does not do custom order. It only sells the brands they have on floor. They won't entertain orders of special brands. Before this visit, I wondered if Shoppers ran this business line as a public services, because I thought only a small percentage of population bought these stuffs. The truth was the store was busy during my visit. There were many customers of various age groups. They were all there to buy things to make their lives easier or to recover from injuries.
