Ever since Publix Aprons Cooking School closed, I've been looking for a cooking school that has fun adult classes. The Kitchen House has just started a monthly "book club" called Plot to Plate where they feature a book that relates to or includes recipes. This month was Lessons in Chemistry so my friends and I decided to attend. We bought our tickets in advance as classes can sell out. The classes are different prices depending on what the class is. The house is in a residential neighborhood in College Park and does not have a dedicated parking lot so I would suggest getting there early as you have to find a spot along the street. When we arrived, we were greeted and given a welcome drink, in this case Cardamom Decaf Coffee because it was cold out. One of the instructors said that normally we would walk the garden at the beginning of class and also eat outdoors but since it was cold, we were going to skip the garden and eat inside. Once everyone arrived (cooking classes can have up to 20 people), we met in the lobby to start talking about different themes of the book. Then it was time to wash up and go to the kitchen. All the ingredients were set out for us and we picked the Veggie Pot Pie table with other attendees. The instructor gave us some knife skills lessons and then we all started cooking, using the recipes at our station. Each station makes one recipe so you don't get to make everything. And, the instructors and volunteers don't show you how to make everything first (like Publix Aprons used to do). But, if you just dig in and start going, it is a lot of fun. We had some questions along the way, like is there a spatula we can use? Or, is this the flour or the cornstarch? The volunteers were great and answered everything in a friendly way. As it said you could do in the welcome email we received before the class, some folks brought their own wine and the Kitchen House provided glasses and would pour for you. I think if we go back, we would definitely bring our own wine. My friends and I made the drop biscuits for the Veggie Pot Pie, which were surprisingly easy to make. We were finished early so we also make the Brownies for dessert that used olive oil and maple syrup instead of butter and sugar. When everyone was done cooking, we gathered in the lobby again while the volunteers cleaned and set up the table for dinner. Then, it was time to eat! Dinner was served buffet style and the Kitchen House split our food for people who had different dietary restrictions. For example, some of the recipes used non-dairy alternatives as some people in the class were lactose intolerant and one person had a mushroom allergy so they got a small spinach gallette instead of the mushroom Gallette for everyone else. As we sat down to eat, we discussed the book more in depth. Everything tasted great and we had a wonderful time. We received all the recipes in an email after the class so we could make the foods at home. I will definitely be looking at other adult classes here.

I went with my classmates for medical school and we made 2 different types of spaghetti- one had meat (very good, picture 1) and the other was vegetarian (wasn't terrible, picture 2). The "class" was held in the middle of a busy pub where music was playing, customers were talking and laughing, and people were actively playing darts and pool. There was no microphone, so we could barely hear the instructor. Calling this a class under those conditions is completely misleading. We were expected to roll dough on small high-top pub tables, which was impractical and uncomfortable. Due to the setup, we couldn't even clearly see the sauce being made. There was no structured, hands-on instruction -- just trying to catch bits and pieces of what was happening in a loud bar environment. To make matters worse, the finished pasta was served in a small Styrofoam bowl with a plastic fork -- not even a napkin provided. The dish itself was bland and underwhelming. This experience was given as a gift, which makes it even more embarrassing. It felt disorganized, misleading and like a complete waste of money. A cooking class should be interactive, educational and conducted in an environment where participants can actually hear and learn -- not in the middle of a noisy pub during business hours. Extremely disappointing. Not at all what we expected. Update: Received no direct message

Normally, I would be in charge of researching and vetting however, this time around it was my sister who ultimately found Pearson's Catering. And I must say she hit this one out of the park in selecting this business! From the time contract was negotiated and signed to the time of the final cleanup of the venue at the end of the gathering, Pearson's management and employees brought their "A" game. Kudos to Rico, Event and Operations Manager in providing options and estimates for the event and Stephen, Ayden and Morgan who manned and set-up the site for the occasion. I personally tried all the food served that day and I can say everything was delicious. From the bread and salad service, to the noodle, salmon and chicken entrees, to the vegetable offering, and finally to the dessert station, Chef Kimberly Pearson and Chef Calvin certainly outdid themselves. Likewise, I only heard great things from friends and family regarding the food and service which was provided. The last weekend of October his wife sent an email saying that Chef Keon had a heart attack and a stroke and they could no longer cater the wedding. I was super understanding and asked if there was anything I could do. I never heard back. A few weeks later I'm rushing to find a caterer but I had already paid the down payment with Chef Keon. I sent another email asking if we could get the deposit back as we were on a tight budget and needed to pay the new caterer that was jumping up to fill this spot in less then 3 weeks before the wedding. I was told that he had taken a turn for the worst and she was trying to get refunds issued. Fast forward to AFTER the wedding I reach out again to try to get my money back. Their website and Facebook keeps saying they are doing events and looking to do more jobs. But they couldn't do mine that I paid for? I was also told they had multiple chefs in their employment and thats why they were still doing work. But no one could step up and do my wedding? I found their personal facebook pages that are public and not private at all to see Chef Keon and his wife both at home no mention of any serious injury's or illness. At this point I am confused. Would someone lie about being in the hospital with a heart attack and a stroke and then say they've taken a turn for the worst? But still post pictures of cooking at home and posting on social media to try to get new jobs? I've gotten some of my money back but I am still owed a few hundred dollars at this point that I don't think I will ever see. It is now March 2021 and this has been going on since November 2020. I am discouraged and angry at the lack of communication and confused at what the truth is. I just wanted my money back since I never got the service I paid for. I was so excited to work with Chef Keon as he was super nice and his cooking was great but I feel like I was scammed and I just wanted to warn others what has happened to me. I hate leaving bad reviews but I have no idea what else to do since they tend to ignore emails until I've sent 4 or 5.

The level of customer service and help is something you don't commonly see in retail stores these days. The store has a tranquil vibe which makes it fun to browse the many gift items. Their stock is unique in that they carry a breadth of items that are high quality at a range of prices. You can spend a lot of time here finding inspiration and treasures. They offer art classes and during the Christmas season they offered free make and take craft classes.
