Flathead Lake Lodge

My company just spent a week at Flathead Lake Lodge and had a fantastic time. We do a company…read moreretreat every 6 months and this was by far our favorite ever. We were a bit nervous as it was our first time not having it in a big city where there were lots of bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues nearby. This actually worked massively in our favor: the time on the ranch together, and the myriad activities available for us, actually brought everyone closer together and made this a resounding success. We went out on the kayaks several times, used the heated pool, made campfires every night, drank the bar try, mingled with the staff, went horseback riding, played basketball, volleyball, and tennis, hung out by the fire playing guitar in the lodge, and ate delicious meals there. Everything worked perfectly and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate. While I can see how this place would be amazing for a family, we had a superb time as a company and definitely plan on returning for a future retreat.

I'm still on cloud 9 from my visit so I think now is the perfect time to write this review. We…read moreopted to go for the adult only retreat as our youngest child (the only one left) had no desire to go and if we weren't taking our kid we certainly didn't want to deal with anyone else's. Going into this trip I didn't know much, other than they had horses and that was what I wanted to do - ride horses. We arrived really early in the morning and was picked up at the airport, which was the size of a postage stamp. It was really easy to find our person, who grabbed our bags and loaded them into the trailer while we sat in the van. Met some others that were on the trip on the way to the lodge. Upon arrival they had a tent setup in the front where they greeted us, gave us a bag with a map of the property and list of that week's activities, told us our rooms weren't ready yet but they would find us when they were. Now - I'm going to note that they said they would find us when our room was ready and I didn't think they really would. We continued to check in to see when the room would be ready, but then later I saw them literally hunting someone down to give her keys - so they will indeed find you. When we checked in the room was a standard lodge room, we had a fridge but our friends didn't, in mentioning this in passing to the staff they brought them a fridge. Talk about service! We spent the next four days riding horses mostly, but also enjoying the company of the other guests and hearing stories from the staff. While we were really heavy on the horse rides we also enjoyed taking a tour of the elk preserve and clay sporting. We got a ride up to the yoga spot for a view (weren't too keen on hiking up there) and spent a good amount of time in the bar with fellow guests chatting up the staff. Everyone was amazing and so accommodating- I had said it was a bucket list trip but the staff at the Averill ranch has me seriously considering returning next year. Thank you for the memories.

We love coming to our local pumpkin patch. This lovely…read morecouple really goes above and beyond to provide fun to families and children in the Flathead Valley. Often, you will find them manning the store, working the kettle corn or driving the fun rides for the children. Admission is 3 and older $8, which is competitive with the other pumpkin patches in the valley. There is often treats in the store and yummy pumpkin chai. There are goats, no kiddin'. Watch out, sometimes the bunnies bite. The donkey is old and loves to be scratched and petted. The old ram is ornery and the chickens are just in their own little world. The bee ride and the cow ride are my kids favorite. Find an adult to pedal you around and climb all over the giant spiderweb for a really fun time. For some science action, check out the water contraption, pushing duckies from one end of the water trough to the other using teamwork and water propulsion. See you're learning while you're here too! To get the bounces out, send your wee ones to the giant air filled trampoline--remove your shoes first please! This place is so fun. And it's even more fun to see your little ones so happy and excited! My family comes here a few times a year and love it. It's beautiful and clean and family ran. Support local!

They also have some stuff for adults--i.e. coffee, a few food trucks, and plenty of pumpkins at reasonable prices! There are a few things you need to buy once you get in (i.e. train ride, petting zoo animal snacks, food/coffee, and of course, pumpkins themselves) but nearly everything else is free with just the reasonable cost of admission. It's a fun trip for just about anyone!

Just an absolutely breathtaking national park - need I say more?…read more We did the Grinnell trail - easily one of the most gorgeous hikes I have done. The wildlife we saw was also insane - bighorn sheep, zealous chipmunks, and of course bears. Parking can be really difficult but it's popular for a reason! I need to come back. There are also cute little basecamps at the entrance.

There was something incredible around every corner: Wildlife: We were lucky enough to see grizzly bears, black bears, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, birds, and so much more. Seeing these animals in their natural habitat was truly special. Glaciers & mountain views: Ancient glaciers surrounded by towering peaks, dramatic landscapes, and endless mountain views it honestly felt unreal. Turquoise lakes: The crystal-clear, turquoise waters looked almost too perfect to be real. Every lake felt like a postcard. Boat rides: A peaceful way to take in the beauty of the park, surrounded by glacier-fed waters and stunning mountain scenery. Hiking: Every trail we explored was worth it! Avalanche Lake, Hidden Lake, Running Eagle Falls, and more each one offered something completely different and beautiful. Wildflowers: Colorful wildflowers and bear grass were everywhere, adding even more beauty to an already incredible landscape. Huckleberry ice cream: And of course, you can't visit Glacier without trying huckleberry ice cream! Such a fun and delicious Glacier tradition. From the wildlife and glaciers to the turquoise lakes, scenic drives, hikes, and peaceful boat rides, Glacier National Park truly has it all.
