This place was great! The staff were friendly, my glass was never empty and the food was good. Smoking was allowed so I didn't really like that, but overall the bathrooms were clean and the place was nice. My boyfriend got the haystack meal and it was huge it cost $7.99 I ordered the Meat lovers omelet which was $8.29 with an iced tea that cost $1.49 and my mother in law ordered 2 French toast and 3 pieces of bacon which cost $6 something. I would definitely go back!

Great breakfast. Good to see some old style diners still around. Everything is home cooked. Especially liked the home fries.

Food tasted like cigarette smoke !! If they'd not have the cigarettes, food would probably be decent. Instead it's a bunch of chain smokers

Breakfast was great. The food was great and the staff are super friendly and attentive. The only negative thing was the smoking.

Hickory House Bar & Grill

Hickory House Bar & Grill

The Hickory House has been around a long, long time. It still looks like the old road house it…read moreonce was and is clearly divided between 'the bar' and 'the buffet'. There is no menu at Hickory House and little decor and no ambience, you come for the buffet, that's what you get. For $10.99 plus a drink, you will get the most awesome ribs you will find around Pomme de Terre lake. The fried chicken is perfect and crisp and juicy without being greasy. Hot, spiced, boiled shrimp, which I hadn't seen done right in years. I was in heaven! There was also Catfish, but I'm not a fan, so I didn't have any although many diners were filling their plates with the filets. Also on the buffet were a couple of vegetables of the day, when I went it was corn on the cob and fried okra. I didn't understand why they would put out whole, foil wrapped baked potatoes and halved, 'twice baked' potatoes as the only two starch selections. That could have been thought out a bit better. But you can hardly go wrong with a baked potato, so that was okay. The twice baked were very, very dry, so I passed on that. Decent salad selection; green salad, a couple of mayonnaise based vegetable salads, some fresh fruit and for dessert, banana pudding or the sheet cake of the day. The cake of the day I went was a deep, dark chocolate with a cream cheese glaze. We got there early, so that cake was still warm from the oven when the put it out. I couldn't pass it up. On an interesting side note, about two years ago, Hickory House had "The Kentucky Headhunters" as part of a July 4th weekend celebration. For whatever reason, Mr. Man and I decided not to go at the last minute. All through dinner, we berated ourselves for passing that up. It's easy to see that when they can afford a live act in the bar side, everything on the buffet side gets pushed against the wall or carted off to make room. I'm sure they rocked it and to have heard "Dumas Walker" in that intimate setting would have been sweet! Ah, regrets... The vibe of the place is awesome, the food was very good, the service and friendliness of the staff was exceptional. We will definitely be going there again. The place opens around 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Baxter's Grill has the best view of the Ozark's lake and is my most favorite eatery out there. Me…read moreand my family had such a great time here - we came in very hungry and left out very happy!! honestly, this is one of those very few places we're everything we ordered turned out to be tasty and well prepared. The decor, views and staff was next to perfection- absolutely no complaints. We started with Diet Coke and Baxter's sunset drink, a beautiful looking drink - fun mix of mango margarita along with raspberry daiquiri. The drink was very tasty and refreshing. For our mains, we got the French dip (the best French dip in MO as per me, filled with juicy shaved prime rib, and Swiss cheese with super tasty Au Jus sauce on the side. I got it with perfectly seasoned delicious roasted potatos! This sandwich took me straight to heaven - emmmm. The rest of my family members got the blackened Mahi Mahi which was topped with house made mango salsa along with some rice and veggies. It was a slightly sweet and tasty savory dish. They also got the Cedar plank Salmon Grilled perfectly along with red wine Dijon sauce and some veggies on the side. Both were cooked well and very different refreshing flavors. We also got some sweet potato fries to go along with the fishes. To end the tasty lunch, we saved some room for some dessert! We got the Rich brownie, served with vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauce. On one side, we were trying to keep the sugar intake low by sharing but on the other, It was a fight to eat the most bites of the ice cream haha lol. Overall, from the drinks to the entrées, to the sides, and the desert was perfect without any disappointments. If you're visiting Lake of Ozarks, then you have to make a stop at Baxter's Grill without fail!

We ordered the ribeye (med. rare), baked potato, green beans and a dinner salad and the crab stuffed tilapia, mashed potatos, green beans, with a Caeser salad. All were cooked very well, delivered to our table hot with attentive service. No drinks tonight - but, based on past experience, the bar is solid! If I could give partial stars, I would rate Baxter's in the range of 4.25 stars or so. Consistently above avverage!

We've been here multiple times over the years- setting is beautiful. Have been there when it's busy…read moreand empty. Don't understand the "security" though. We came in dockside w our boat- a security kid was standing his post right near the closed pool and bar area. He checked all of our IDs and bc our daughter was under 21, he had to place 2 large permanent marker "Xs" on her hands. As he did this, he stated, "Pool is for adults only, but the pool is closed." What?? Why the big Xs and ID check if we're just going up for dinner... and the place is empty? The food was decent. Drinks were good but expensive especially for the lack of alcohol in them. We didn't want to pay for bottled water either- no free waters there like every other restaurant. Waitress was great although she was the only one helping the outside patrons (inside was empty). We encouraged her that she was doing a good job since we could tell she was running. All in all, we may stop here again since we are down in the area frequently, but there are better options we will choose 1st. (And as we left, we saw the security kid sitting up top at the bar in the restaurant ... so glad my daughter "gets" to have these big black Xs on her hands for 2 days now. Just not necessary.)

Without a doubt, this was one of the most disappointing and chaotic experiences I've ever had at a…read moreplace that claims to welcome both families and partygoers. From start to finish, it was clear no one was actually running the show. Staff members were blatantly vaping and scrolling social media behind the counters like they were on break at home. Even worse, the employee tasked with monitoring the kids' waterslide was doing the same, completely disengaged, staring at their phone, puffing on a vape. It was beyond unprofessional, it was unsafe. Trash was piled up on most tables, left untouched long after guests had left. Meanwhile, a cluster of employees stood around doing absolutely nothing. I snapped a photo of the scene, and instead of acknowledging the issue, one of them smirked and sent security over to give me a hard time. When I brought it up to the manager, she claimed that phone use and vaping weren't allowed, but had no explanation for why it's clearly tolerated. The food? Cold, flavorless, and tossed together like it was an afterthought. And the "family-friendly" atmosphere? Not even close. There was loud, explicit music playing right next to the kids' area while intoxicated adults were grinding on each other in the pool. It felt more like a spring break free-for-all than a place you'd want to take your family. The only person who acted with any professionalism was the security guard checking IDs at the entrance, and that's saying something. This place is a mess. Dirty, reckless, and completely mismanaged. If you care about safety, service, or basic decency, look elsewhere.
