A 24 hour gym. Its office hours are from 10 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.. It is in a strip Mall on the right as you approach from Hwy 190. There is plenty of free parking. There is handicapped parking and access directly in front of the gym. The shopping center it is in is a relatively new construction. I don't know if they have been around for a while and moved into a new location or whether they are a fairly new business.
The owner, Graham, is friendly and helpful. A friend recommended Covington Athletic Club to me. The first day I went a patron unlocked the door to let me in. At that time their sign said the office hours were 9 A.M. to 5:30 A.M.. I arrived at 8:30 A.M. to meet my friend and be introduced to other people who frequent the gym. No one showed up in the office by 9:35 A,.M. so I left. When I arrived home I sent an email to them explaining that I might be interested in a membership. Time ticked away... no answer. My friend emailed me later that day and I told here what had happened. She sent a text to the owner who was quick to reply to my email. The manager had hurt her back and had a doctor's appointment that morning and so the new office times had not been updated before I arrived. Graham offered me the first month free, without me having to get frustrated, if I decided to purchase a membership. I returned, did buy a membership, and before I could say a word the manager recognized my name and promptly applied the first month free. The owner also gave me his phone number so I could text him with any future issues.
The inside of the building is about average in size for a gym. They have plenty of machines for cardio and weights. The machines look to be not too far passed new. They have a separated room that is pretty large and spacey that they use for instructor led group classes. All of the different group classes are included in the basic monthly fee. The only extra cost is if you want to have a personal trainer. There is 24 hour video surveillance. They do have their own free Wi-Fi. They have two gender neutral restrooms and two fair size shower rooms.
Star gym is right next door to my Condo. I did not choose them because while the size of their workout room is about the same as that for Covington Athletic Club the space felt cramped and cluttered to me. The lighting is poor at Star and there aren't a group of people around my age that I am aware attend the gym. Star also does not have any additional space for instructor led group classes. I don't know how the prices compare but I am paying $32.00 per month, that includes tax, at Covington Athletic Club which is a senior rate. There is a onetime cost of $15.00, which was waived for me, for the key fob to allow you to enter anytime of the day or night. Covington Athletic Club isn't very far from my Condo but appears to be a better choice, so far, for me than say Star gym.
I am giving it 4 Stars because of my initial overall experience so far. As I make use of the establishment I shall revise my rating as necessary. read more
