We took our bags out to our car parked out front - lots of street parking, very nice street - and walked across to the biggest farmers market I have ever been to! Extremely cool, but wait, let me tell you the rest of the story about our stay here. We checked in Friday evening about 5:00 and were greeted by Jordi at the front door. Extremely personable, he welcomed us in and I immediately felt like part of the family. After showing us our room, the kitchen and the outdoor pool, he gave us some tips on dining in the area. It ended up being a nice Mexican place close to the Botanical Gardens where we attended an evening "after hours" with cocktails and live music. All this was easy walking so we didn't need worry about driving after drinking. We walked back along the west side of the gardens and then back to the Casa along Magnolia Avenue. It was 95 degrees at 9 pm and we were hot. After changing into our bathing suits we jumped into the outdoor pool. Wow, Jumping in the pool was so refreshing and We had it all to ourselves. A great nights sleep led to an early morning cup of coffee and a first class breakfast. More food was served than I could eat, but all was very fresh, well thought out and prepared. Affordable camping with two very clean shower houses, fishing, archery ranges, two pavilions and a clubhouse to rent for occasions. Playgrounds for the kids and grandkids, affordable camper storage for members, and a nice walking trail with a mysterious hidden spring in the woods. We bring our kayaks down sometimes and paddle around the big lake. It's a really nice club to be a part of.

Most of the staff we encountered were friendly and pleasant throughout our stay, although one front desk employee was loudly yelling on her phone, which wasn't the best impression. The hotel is older but has clearly been renovated. Our room was clean, and the linens and towels were soft, fresh, and well-maintained. However, there was a noticeable musty smell in the room, which may have been related to a small mold spot on the ceiling. The bathroom also stayed very humid since there isn't an exhaust fan. The location feels convenient, central, and generally safe. That said, the front desk was discussing several car break-ins that had happened the night we checked in, which definitely made us a little uneasy about leaving our vehicle outside. One of the biggest disappointments was the pool. It was closed for most of our stay, and staff told us it was "very dirty and needed to be professionally shocked," so we weren't able to use one of the amenities we were looking forward to. Overall, this hotel is about what you'd expect for around $140 per night. The rooms and amenities reflect the budget-friendly price, you get what you pay for. While I wouldn't completely rule out staying here again, it's unlikely I'd choose it over other hotel brands (Drury, Marriott, etc).

Especially Miss Alisia at the breakfast check-in, she is such a bright face in the morning and a great person to chat with. The breakfast is a great place to start your day, and the rooftop is a great place to end it. It is easy enough to head to Forest Park for the day and get some Ted Drewes before dinner at the Moonrise. The rooms and beds are quiet and comfortable, even when they host events on the rooftop on the weekend. We can't wait to come back next summer!

The rooftop is solid, a clear arc of the city that makes you slow down to appreciate the view. The space itself is exactly what you want at the end of the night. Open, relaxed and elevated enough to feel like a finale without trying too hard. The music was much louder than I'd prefer and not an artist I'd ever queue up for a mellow nightcap and it did sort of get in the way of the vibe. The kitchen had already closed, which killed the idea of a final nibble with our round of drinks. The bartender did offer the workaround of having DoorDash delivered to the bar but we weren't going to hang around that long. The Old Fashioned he put together was excellent, balanced and smooth. Just what I needed as my Fitbit clocked over 10k steps. As a final stop on a Loop night, the Moonrise works beautifully. You get the view of downtown Saint Louis in the distance, the atmosphere, the giant Moon doing its thing and a comfortable landing spot before calling it a night. Rooms were nice with large king size bed and a nice layout. Pool was indoors and perfect for swims after soccer games. The breakfast area was well staffed, clean and some really decent food. There was another Choice Inn closer to the tournament but for a few extra miles to drive, this location was worth it.

For example, this time we went down for nachos and popcorn. There was one bag of chips for nachos and the cheese sauce was tepid at best. Two more parties arrived after us -- a group of two and a group of three -- none of whom could have nachos since we had the only chips available. The popcorn was stale -- and there was very little of it. This could be such a nice feature that sets the hotel apart. The food temperature issue has been an issue EVERY time we've stayed. It is also VERY annoying to have a hotel tell you to give them a 10 star rating, especially in exchange for reward points. If you want reviews, ask, but do NOT tell me what to write/say/etc. Housekeepers are always polite and kind in the hallway while doing a great job on the rooms. Front desk staff wavers between friendly and bored, but they are helpful and professional. Breakfast is mediocre. Parking has been a bit messy due to construction off and on. I think it's interesting that NO ONE EVER RESPONDS to these reviews and nothing changes at the hotel.
