It was designed to protect soldiers outside of the main fort & it's the only architecture left from the original fort. After that it had a couple of uses-a house and trading post. You can easily access the Blockhouse as it's in the same place it's always been, right at the entrance of Point State Park. It's never rebuilt. Open to the public for tours. If you're visiting Pittsburgh, it's a great piece of our history. If you live in Pittsburgh, don't take National Landmarks for granted, go visit.

The Sewickley Bridge is hit-or-miss . . . it's either gonna be all backed up with traffic . . . or it is gonna be empty. I happened to hit it at one of those times. What would normally be a 1 minute crossing turned out to be a 45 minute detour! The Sewickley bridge connects the road to the Sewickley business district on one side and Coraopolis on the other. As others have said it can be hit or miss with this bridge because of the traffic lights at each end and the turning lanes onto it. It crosses the Ohio River and makes it a bit easier to get to Moon Twp and to the Sewickley business district from there. Other than that please be aware of the fact that this is the Penn dot chosen detour for the I 79 bridge.

It's a fully paved, ten-foot wide promenade that follows both banks of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers, which unite to form the Ohio River. Except for the occasional jogger, there was barely a soul out when I was walking because the weather was bitterly cold. At the same time, the scenic views were constant and unique to the area. I am not downtown everyday anymore, but any time I am I try to stop by Mellon Square Park. It's such a nice place to sit and relax and has a great view of all the really old architecture from nearby buildings. When it's not busy on the weekdays there can be some interesting characters, so I try to only sit down when there are other people around. I have been loving the Summer block parties that Talia puts on. They have live music, cocktails, and Italian food for a couple hours once or twice a month. It is really fun, especially when the weather is nice. There is a parking garage on Oliver underneath the park and the Omni William Penn is right across the street. This is a great place to take photos at too! I feel like a lot of local people don't even know about this serene little square in the middle of the city.

Downtown Pittsburgh has a limited shopping venue and people aren't coming downtown as once before. Riverview Dog Park is in the beautiful Riverview Park. It is a great place to go and hang out and socialize. For you and your dog. Riverview has to separate areas that are both completely fenced in, One area is for all dogs the second is for dogs smaller than 25 pounds. All the other dog owners where very nice and Franklin ran around for 2 hours. Franklin loved it and I will probably take him again today. If you have a social dog then Riverview Dog Park is a great place for you and your dog to socialize.

Spanning the Alleghany River, like most bridges in this city, is not the original bridge in this location. The bridge connects the Strip District to Deutschtown passing by the old Heinz factory before coming to an intersection that is extremely busy with the traffic from Route 28. The bridge has gone through several rehabilitations over the years with the most recent being in 2002. The bridge is Aztec Gold in color like a majority of the other bridges in the city. I remember reading once that the ornate statues that adorn the tops of the pillars were about to be painted until a passerby screamed up to the workers to not do that and destroy the work created by Leo Lentelli. The sculptures depict four pegasi holding up a globe with the twelve signs of the zodiac. This bridge always feels like it is tucked away and hidden from view. Overlooked by the Veterans Bridge and the skyline. You only really appreciate it when you have to use it.
