Courtyard Madison East was a delightful place for us during our recent trip to the Madison area. In fact, it has been the best spot we've stayed at in the past two months across multiple visits to Mad-Town! We really appreciated the location, which provided easy access to all major highways as well as being an easy couple of minutes away from multiple eateries in the "mall" area. The parking lot was well-lit, and we never felt concerned about the safety of our car. While this trip did not allow us time, we did pass by the workout area and pool. Both were actively in use and appeared exceptionally well kept. As were the public areas, our room was immaculate, from the air system filters to the carpet edges & corners, behind the furniture, and all areas in the bathroom. Housekeeping deserves a 6-star rating for their exceptional work! We were in a corner room on the second level with windows facing West and North. Despite being in a busy area, it was surprisingly quiet. That said, while our room was attractive and pleasant to stay in, it was a bit tight in fit. Our NW corner room was a King bed, which left only about a foot or so of clearance between the bed foot and the couch, as well as the wall to the mattress. Passing those areas was definitely a side-step approach method. As residents of Northeast Wisconsin, we've noticed that many customer service folks in Madison tend to focus so much on professionalism that they can come across as somewhat stoic and over-serious. However, one of the front desk staff members, whom I hope I've remembered correctly--Joshua (?!)-- stood head and shoulders above the rest. If local HR is looking to recognize him, they won't have any trouble identifying him. I passed by his station several times during our stay, and he was consistently greeted everyone with a big smile and an engaging personality. On a couple of occasions, I had the privilege of watching him interact with other guests, and it was clear that being friendly and outgoing was his default setting. Courtyard Madison East: DO NOT LOSE THIS GUY! He was a shining ray of sunshine for everyone passing by or in need of assistance! My mom and I were seeing Kathy Griffin on Sunday night and since we're from Illinois we decided we should stay over instead of driving back. Originally it was great. They were very accommodating when I asked for a room close to the elevator due to my mom's mobility issues. The room overall was pretty nice. There are a couple issues. Number one I feel like it's pretty standard to have a microwave in a hotel room these days. I've stayed in rooms that cost less that have them. So that was issue number one. Number two I feel like no matter if it's a handicapped room or not, which ours was not, there should be some kind of Aid or bar or something to get up off the toilet. Which there was not. There's plenty of room for it as you'll see in my pictures. I also think it's kind of cheap not to do a complimentary breakfast , when you're charging over $100 a night for a room . Also especially when you have a Starbucks in the lobby , we kind of know you can afford to offer breakfast. I'm just being honest. My main issue, involves something to do with Sanitation. Which is why they are only getting three stars. I mentioned the fact that there are not microwaves in the room. I will give them credit they do have a good amount of options in their little market downstairs. They offer several options to microwave in their communal microwave. But herein lies the problem. There is nothing to microwave those items on. There are no plates, napkins or paper towels to place your items on. So you are placing every item directly on the plate of the microwave. That's a safety issue. I was not okay with that. As far as the room itself, it was nice. The beds were comfortable enough. There's a nice size closet. The TV was nice and I did like that they have the option for most streaming services. But I just cannot get past that sanitation issue. It's the old style courtyard interior. Check-in was a breeze, water behind the front desk. Parking lot was kind of full when I stayed there. Single bay elevators in a couple locations in the hotel. While I didn't run into any congestion, I can see it happening on a busy day. The room itself was standard courtyard. In a bit of disrepair; it's been used, and clearly time for a refresh. I can't rave enough about the little details they get right here. We checked in late in the evening and everything went smoothly. Very clean room, entire hotel is updated and modern decor. They have a bar and bistro open until 10pm during the week with adequate snack bar selection for things to take to room and great pool and work out room. Mattresses were comfortable, and the tv was updated with easy Netflix access. I woke up at four am and snuck to the lobby. The lady at the desk brewed me a cup of coffee and turned some lights on for me to work. She checked on me to make sure I didn't need anything else. I've stayed at this hotel several times it's always clean great service and self serve minimart down in the foyer. Interestingly enough having gold status doesn't always work here at times. I have been upgraded rooms and other times. I was told there were no upgrades available to find the parking lot only about 15% full. This made me question whether I could've been given an upgrade. The cost of the hotel is usually reasonable and it is well located near Madison and the interstate . read more

I checked in after having one of the most nightmare Travel and had to drive 19 hours to get here.The woman's attitude at the front desk was one of the worst I've ever seen in all my travel and I travel a lot. I checked in the room. The TV is situated where you have to lie on the bed, which is completely pointing straight and the TV is all the way to your right you can't even watch the TV. You got to tilt the TV all the way side pull it out and then you only could see about 50% of the TV. There is no microwave in the room. The refrigerator is literally a half of a mini refrigerator. The room set up is absolutely one of the weirdest set ups. The parking horrendous. I literally had to park up and all the way around the back of the hotel to walk all the way to the front. I usually love the Marriott. They have an excellent reputation however they need to look at their staff because that woman working at the front desk rude is an understatement. I would consider how they set up the room as it's not good finally, the straw that broke the camels back was I had to Dry some laundry. I had I washed it prior and when I got here, I just wanted to use the dryer or dry nine pieces of clothes and the woman said he had to use a credit card. It will pre-charge a credit card $10 to use a two dollar and 50 minute drive for eight pieces of clothes And it took two cycles to dry the clothes and it was literally thin clothes no jeans or anything I would not recommend this hotel to anybody I know customer beware however hopefully I am warning people not to come here unless you do not plan to stay in your room for a lot of time then how about it? It's a beautiful looking room just very weirdly horribly designed and the people at the front desk or the person I was exposed to beyond rude Marriott you need to do better. read more

This hotel is in a very convenient location with quick access to Madison, Sun Prairie, and Stoughton. The price is reasonable. I have the Marriott App so checking in was easy, but unfortunately the app only allowed me access to my room and not the side doors into the hotel so I did have to visit the front desk to get a physical key card. I'm not mad about having to stop at the desk, but there was no one there so I did have to come back at a later time. My room was clean but could have been better. There were stains on walls in the bathroom that could have been cleaned or attended to. The bed was not the most comfortable but got the job done. Overall, okay stay. Would probably try a different spot next time. read more

We stayed here recently and had a fantastic experience. The room was giant, even for a suite, it was bigger than my sisters apartment in Milwaukee by a landslide and it was pretty dang clean (found a few candy wrappers under the furniture). The facilities were great. They had a little mini mart in the lobby, and a large food menu at the bar, lots of outdoor seating areas, and the pool area was well kept. Getting to the hotel was easy to access and there was a great amount of parking outside. The only constructive criticism I could give is to powerwash the outside of the building, it looked a bit dirty compared to the hotel next to it. read more

On my last night I decided to do a little stretching and yoga before bed. I located a charger, lid, popcorn and maybe apple peels under my bed skirt. I didn't bother contacting front desk as it's late and I'm leaving first thing in the morning. I've not been greeted once in my 2 night stay. Self check in, so I did not need to go to the desk. Rooms and amenities were otherwise ok. Location is good and market and bistro options are nice. Pool is not warm as advertised. I could not access fitness center with mobile key. Would recommend with cleanliness caution. read more

Loved everything about this hotel! It's super modern and clean with lovely desk associates. It's close to a ton of restaurants and the mall. Easily accessible off the highway. The front and back patio are really eye catching here, if you enjoy hanging outside with a cocktail, you'll love this hotel. In the mornings, you can grab a coffee and fruit platter from Starbucks in the lobby and enjoy your breakfast on the sleek wicker themed patio. Just lovely! The rooms are pretty standard but had comfortable beds, a cute little couch and a large bathroom all with complimentary WiFi. Unfortunately, breakfast is not included in your reservation but there's several options for food, including dinner and a 24 hour large snack area for purchase. I'd book this hotel again in a heartbeat. read more

Clean newer property on Madison's east side with big rooms and great pillows (5) on each of the two queen beds in our room. The furnishings are new and stylish and they have a large well appointed lobby where their "cafe" is open in the evenings at 5 so you can buy a drink or get something to eat. They also offer breakfast (not included in the room rate). We stayed in 415-on the top floor and booked the room the same day (don't try this on football weekends!). I don't think it was a very full house so things were on the quiet side which was nice after a long harrowing day driving in the snow. Bathroom features a shower tub and stool in a larger space. Sink is located outside bathroom door in the room. Room also featured a small refrigerator and a work desk. All in all a comfy spot to spend the night. read more

Stayed here with family and solo a few times over the last year. Consistently good. Prices are reasonable, the bistro restaurant is really good. Gym is straightforward with a few treadmills and some weights which is all we need. The staff has always been very friendly. This it by far the best hotel stay I have ever had! I rarely get a chance to say something was the best but it was. The staff is the most polite and customer service focused I have ever seen anywhere. My daughter unfortunately threw up all over the room getting sick and the front desk guy took the liberty of helping clean it up because it was late. They offered to move us to another room and cleaned up the carpet for us the next day The bar is awesome, great drinks and the lobby is welcoming with areas having personal TVs. Nice outside seating area great pool and workout area etc. When I come back, I won't stay anywhere else. Nice job Courtyard team ad thank you for making our stay amazing. read more

This location is definitely one of the "better" Courtyards out there. It appears new, or at least very newly remodeled. Rooms: A Ours was spotless and good sized. We had a standard king which has a sofa and large work surface. As a bonus, our room had a small refrigerator. On the minus side, you could hear hallway noise in a BIG way. Amenities: B+ Free wifi, nice common areas, lovely outside sitting spaces and a pool (unusual for Courtyard). The pool can be a plus or minus depending on your situation as they tend to attract noisy children (ours did just that, and it was very unpleasant). For business travelers there is a boarding pass kiosk and 24 hour market. Location: B Located in a business park, you're about 5-6 miles away from the Capitol meaning you may need a car. It's a very easy drive though. Also, the hotel is located near an expressway meaning you may hear some road noise (ask for a front facing room). This location is close to a big mall and there are lots of chain restaurants within a few minutes drive. Staff: B Pleasant on check in/check out. Overall, this is a nice Courtyard in a good location - I'd return/recommend without hstation. read more

This 2 star review is based solely on the sleep situation in room 317. First...this is a decent property that is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Pretty good location that is very close to the airport. The rooms are clean and the bed linens smelled fresh. Now the bad. The bed SUCKED! There were ruts in the bed with a huge ridge down the middle. I finally crashed but the headache was outrageous. If I were not a very satisfied Marriott person this experience would turn me off to the brand completely. I did communicate directly with Marriott Customer Service and they took care of me. I'm impressed that such a high caliber Courtyard line is available on the far east edge of Madison. It looks really new and modern. The rooms were spacious and beds were very comfortable. Some rooms come with a private whirlpool. There is also a legit exercise room, a public pool and jacuzzi, a convenience store, and a Starbucks within this Courtyard. Customer service is great, and prices are reasonable. However, parking seems to be a problem at night. I guess the Courtyard Madison East is quite a popular hotel. read more

Marriot is usually my top choice when traveling for business so it was nice to see that Marriot had a Courtyard property right across the highway from my Madison office. I arrived rather late thanks to some sub zero weather delays, however it was nice to be able to checkin and grab a quick bite to eat at the bistro in the lobby. Selection is limited, however its very convenient. I didn't have much of an opportunity to checkout the outside courtyard due to the snow and extreme cold however it looked like it would provide a great area to relax after a busy day. Overall all the interior hotel property was clean, with a nice comfortable room. The room itself offered me enough room to spread out. Complete with a workspace, sofa, 32" flat screen tv and a mini fridge. The bathroom was average size, however not too small where you would feel cramped. The staff here was great, from check in to check out and even dining at the bistro everyone went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. I already have to return to Madison in a few weeks and have already booked by return trip at this very same hotel. One complaint I did have was staying on the rear of the hotel is that the garbage pickup provided a nice wakeup call between 6-6:30am twice during my 4 night stay. read more

This place is what I expect from a Marriott. The staff is friendly, the rooms are up to date, and the stay was perfect. To start with, I had a king room with a pull out couch. The TV location makes it so it is better to watch TV from the couch, but it does pull out if you want to watch from bed. There is also a small fridge, desk, and coffee maker. The bed is very comfortable being not too soft, not too hard, but just right. I also checked out the gym which has 2 treadmills, elliptical, and stationary bike. They also have some free weights and a water fountain. The nice this is each TV has its own TV with a full breadth of channels. There is also a moderate size pool that was tempting to jump in. The most unique thing about the hotel is that there are two separate elevators, one for each side of the building. Smart idea. Overall nice hotel that is up to date and has multiple amenities. I am a Marriot Platinum Elite, close to Ambassador level so I stay at a lot of marriots every year. This place was pretty clean, and the people that worked there were all very, very nice. That's the only reason I even stayed my full trip here. I had 12 nights here and I had asked for an upgrade as well as getting my room cleaned every few days, but neither happened. For someone with my status, being in their SMALLEST room (very small!) by the freeway got a little hard by the 2nd week. I am a seasoned traveler and wouldn't have even noticed for a one week stay, but this is a loud hotel if you are on the freeway side. I asked three times to different people, all who said no. Okay, but when I called at the end of my stay to let them know about a few things including this they tried to blame me for not trying harder?? I think 3 calls should be enough...humm... However, I wouldn't be doing this review at all if that is all there was in the sense of problems. No one is guaranteed an upgrade, but they could have helped more there for sure. That said, the biggest issue was that they cleaned my room on the first Friday I was there, and then I went another 7 days and NO one would clean my room. I called every single day and they said, yes, we'll clean it for sure, but it just never happened. This is very odd to me. I had to go get more towels and such myself every few days....very weird. The staff at the desk are very friendly, but did nothing that they said they would do. For another example, I said I wanted my F&B credit and not the points, they said yes 3 times that this would happen. Did it? no. Was this a big deal, not really, but it all just adds up. Again, nothing the front desk told me happened at all...it's like they had no idea how to do it. The restaurant staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food is just okay - typically courtyard, but I had zero problems in the 12 days I was there with the restaurant. I really enjoyed the staff in the restaurant for sure. I wouldn't go back to this hotel at the prices they charge because I couldn't' get my room cleaned no matter how much I asked and they wouldn't move me from the freeway side. My boyfriend and I decided to take a trip up to Madison for some good food and tattoos, and were searching for a budget-friendly hotel that still catered to my slight obsession with cleanliness. I found a photo of their King Room with whirlpool online, and was immediately intrigued. Upon walking into the property, I was quickly put at ease by the hospitality of the front desk staff and clean, well stocked market and sitting areas. Our room itself was spacious & similarly well kept. I did another deep clean on the tub before using it (personal preference), but found it to be such a fun and relaxing alternative to traditional copy/paste type hotel rooms. I also loved the little outdoor balcony area! The room attendant had left us a personalized, sweet note as well which was an additional great touch to our stay. Though I don't often feel obligated to post reviews, I was very impressed by this property, especially for the price! We will certainly be returning if ever back in Madison :) read more

[This is part of a set of reviews covering establishments my family and I encountered while taking a road trip to Cincinnati.] I'm finally getting to the final few reviews from my trip more than two months ago. I guess I could have scrapped these last few, but that's not what Yelpers do. Is it!? This was your typical Courtyard by Marriot. Clean, well-run, friendly staff. They have a good-sized pool and a big, comfortable lobby. There were quite a few people checking in at the same time I was (the young lady at the front desk seemed a bit frazzled, but still very professional) and I was surprised how much room there was given the limited space they had cordoned off for registration. I would complain about the fact that there were only two elevators at either end of the hotel, but for this size hotel it didn't make sense to add more. It gave the feeling that we were waiting a long time because we had only one option, but that was probably just skewed because of my impatience of wanting to get to where I was going that night. I did take the stairs a few times when I didn't want to wait and going up and down to the third floor was surprisingly un-strenuous. They had enough room that the staircase was very shallow. Actually, a very unusual setup. I was a little disappointed in the morning when we were trying to get breakfast. Like the first Marriot we stayed on the outbound part of our trip, there were waffle makers, but these weren't self-serve. There was an area for a "chef" to make you eggs/omelette, but there was no one manning the station. Granted, it was early. But still. If you're going to have a station like that, shouldn't there be *someone* there? Even with that, we had a nice stay. Comfortable and restful before the drive home. read more

Probably the worst experience I've had in a hotel, though it's not entirely their fault. On the night of 4/15/16, it was about 8PM and I had been driving for half the day and decided to lay my head here as Courtyard is a pretty trusted name in my experience. I stopped in without a reservation and luckily they had a room. Apparently this past weekend, Madison was host to many events and conventions. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and courteous. The property itself is nice. Not ultra modern, but contemporary design. Pretty much what you would expect from a Courtyard by Marriott. There were a bunch of pre-teen kids running around, in and out of the pool. Noisy and annoying? Yes. The fault of Courtyard? Not really. I grabbed dinner, relaxed in my room and wanted to get a good night's sleep as I still had 6 hours to drive the next day. Everything was fine, you could hear noise from the hall, but not too much. I'm a heavy sleeper anyway. However, what happened that night, I couldn't sleep through. At 3:30AM, the fire alarm went off for 5-10 mins. Full alarm blare and flashing strobe lights in the room. I could hear people clamoring in the halls and exiting, but I waited. Eventually the alarms subsided, no smoke smell, and more importantly, no sirens of firetrucks in the distance, so I went back to sleep. I planned on sleeping in a bit longer in the morning due to the disturbance, but that didn't happen. The fire alarm went off again at around 6:30AM and 4 more times after that in the next hour. By 7AM, I had had enough and got up to shower and get on with my day. I went to the front desk to give back my keys and ask the front desk what happened. The lady at the front desk was extremely apologetic and said another guest had set it off. She didn't say doing what, but I'm willing to bet someone was smoking in their room like an idiot. The final 5 times the alarm went off was most likely from them trying to reset the system. She also offered a complimentary cup of coffee for the inconvenience. Yes, one cup of coffee will make up for the 6 times the fire alarm went off during my stay. Not that I expected to be comped the room due to the incident, but the offer of a cup of a free cup of coffee in exchange for a good night's sleep seemed condescending in light of the 6 hour drive ahead of me. So not entirely their fault, but still was a very bad experience. read more

This was the worst customer service I have ever encountered in my years of using Marriott. The charge on the website and reservation was not honored. Worst of all, they did not mention it. Rather, they hid the issue until I notice the credit card was being overcharged. Warning: Do not stay here !!! Find an honest place that charges what they say they will charge on your original emailed invoice. Also, the general manager refused to provide the invoiced rate. Simply said the rate was for Wyoming State employees only although I spoke with them over the phone to make the reservation and they knew I was coming from Vegas. The general manager argued "the emailed invoice does not have to be honored." read more

The courtyard Madison is pretty good. I've been staying here for weeks on a project so I can say it's pretty comfortable and very clean. I prefer the other Harriot brands like the Fairfield to the courtyards because you usually get a free breakfast and some of the courtyards are pretty shabby. This one is nice tho, it's been kept up to date and a recently opened gym is a nice addition. The staff is quite nice and they have a bar, if meeting other middle aged business travelers is your thing (I prefer Le Tigre). Oh, they do have the slowest elevators in the world. read more

Get to the room and it's 60 degrees in the room. Turn it up to 78 and go for a meal - still 60 degrees in here. Apparently when you leave the room the heating turns off. Would have given five stars, except the bistro is lacking. Customer service was good, I just feel like I ordered food from a Starbucks. Spent $13 on a chicken pot pie. Tastes good but small portion. Also got a side salad, it literally looks and tastes like rabbit food. Would have been better if there was some color and flavor, it's all greens. My stay here was pretty decent. I came for business in Madison and stayed for the week. They allowed me an early check-in which was very appreciated. Everything was modern and clean. VERY clean. The hotel itself was quiet at night. No trouble sleeping. Beds are AMAZINGLY comfortable. They have a lobby bistro. Open for breakfast (order from a menu) and then again for dinner. Pretty standard. Staff was great. My only complaints are they do not offer complimentary coffee, which even 2 star hotels do these day. They SELL Starbucks, which I hate and a tall (SMALL) coffee was a whopping $2.00 a cup. I'm sorry but that's crazy. Also the elevators took foreverrrrr. They have a pool and hot tub which I did not get to use but it looked really nice. Overall above average stay I'm just a coffee snob and mad I spent over $10 this week on crappy coffee. Booked a whirlpool suite here for a date night with my wife. Checked in and no obvious issues with the room, so went out for a night on the town. We returned about 6 hours later to find that the whirlpool jets were non-functional, and as soon as the tub was filled there were very suspicious-looking objects in the water that made it very apparent the tub had not been cleaned since it's last use. In addition, the heat in the room was on full blast and the controls on the heater were non-functional preventing us from even turning it off much less adjusting the temperature. After deciding to just go to our own home close by for the evening instead of staying, we informed the front desk of the issues and that we were leaving, and only got a response of "well you should have informed us of the problems when you checked in, we can't give you any kind of refund or discount", followed by a notification from my bank that they ran my credit card for the full price of the room before we were even out of the parking lot. So apparently, you should check all the features of the room immediately upon check-in if you stay here. I, for one, will never stay at one of these properties for any reason ever again. read more

This Courtyard had nice sized rooms and seemed clean. The shower/toilet area was separated from the vanity area by a door which is always nice so two people can get ready at the same time. Lobby was clean and had several computers for us to use. Hallways were clean also. Only minor complaint is the elevators were slow and hot. I'm so impressed by the very friendly front desk staff! We have stayed here twice in the last month. Both times we were greeted so warmly! The staff was very helpful in answering our questions. Our room was clean and modern. In the morning, I picked up coffee, fruit and an egg wrap from their little bistro. It was delicious! We will definitely stay at this location again. we love this place! it's our "go-to" in Madison. ALWAYS very very very clean, the staff is extremely friendly, and the rooms are modern and comfortable. the rates are very reasonable, borderline cheap, and it is only about a ten minute drive from downtown. read more
