We also each got one free drink at the bar! I do wish there had been a little more Christmas feel in the room itself since there wasn't any holiday decor inside, but the hotel and surrounding area were gorgeous. The park right behind it was lit up beautifully with activities, which made it such a fun place to walk through. Parking unfortunately wasn't great since there were only a handful of spots, so we had to park a bit far away and walk back any time we left. The bed was super comfy and cozy, and room service comes from their restaurant so the food was delicious. The woman at the front desk was incredibly sweet and accommodating, and they also have extras like toothbrushes and other essentials if you forget anything. It is on the pricier side, but if you want to treat yourself for a special occasion, I highly recommend it. We're already talking about making it a tradition.

My room was spacious and tidy, with operating a/c and a comfy bed. The neighborhood is quiet, and super handy to the freeway - it was basically 15-20 minutes to anywhere I wanted to go! There aren't a lot of amenities near the hotel (other than a gas station), but they do have the usual Hampton Inn free breakfast, as well as a cute little cocktail bar in the lobby that operates most evenings. I would happily stay here again!

The lobby was well apportioned and the breakfast was standard with some hot options, oatmeal, pancake machines, fruit, cereal and for me the best - is nice, fresh, hot coffee. All in all it was a great stay and I would chose this hotel again when in the raleigh/cary area.

I am so glad I chose this property to experience the benefit. As you can see from the photos, the king room is absolutely gorgeous and so plush. There are so many little details about the way that the rooms are crafted as well as the square footage that are obvious indications that they intentionally designed every room for comfort and luxury. I received a Lakeview room that was absolutely gorgeous. I really do enjoy how they style the bathrooms to have the private toilet with both the tub and shower bathing options. I also love all of the integrated technology conveniences throughout. There is a separate seating area and desk area, which sometimes other hotels compromise on and blend both together instead of having them intentionally be separate zones. What was also a fabulous touch was the complementary Pinot Noir wine, the complementary chocolate, and spring water and filtered water sprinkled throughout the room. The mini bar was well stocked, but I will say I was a bit disappointed in the beverage choices. It seemed a little bit overdone and underwhelming. What I appreciate the most is the soft touch lighting panels in each area of the room that allows you to control ambient and fluorescent lighting. For business travelers like myself who arrive late in the evening, it is such a comfort to be able to control the level of lighting in a room. Overall, excellent stay and Ms Tuesdi at the front desk is an absolute delight. I really hope that they promote her because she is the quintessential hospitality Employee.

After my spa visit I headed to the pool and was seated in a spot with an umbrella, as requested. Unfortunately, the umbrella was broken and I had to move myself to a spot with a functioning umbrella. Next, we ordered drinks, which we both were enjoying until the staff walked by and swiped up my unfinished drink. He didn't ask if I wanted anything, just silently took it and kept moving. My husband decided to keep his drink in hand for the rest of his, and when he was done the guy drove by and snatched his up. He didn't stop to ask if we needed anything else. I was planning to have drinks and lunch by the pool, but after that moment I decided I was done with the Umstead pool and left.

The centerpiece of the house's interior is a rotunda supported by four Corinthian columns and lit by a stained glass window located on the roof. Walking into the foyer you cant help but embrace the timeless grace, where every corner whispers of history and a bygone era. There is a quiet serenity to the space, as if time slows just a little bit inside. The modern touch added to the old renovated mansion does come with a bit of a sharp, sterile elegance of a modern mansion. The Parlor is a great place to enjoy a delicious craft cocktail and even better, ADULTS ONLY! There are also many other lovely seating arrangements throughout the property, including outdoors, and a few even come with fire pits. Regardless of your intentions for visiting the Heights House, I am quite confident there will be no disappointments, unless they have a private event. Cheers!

Everything is lovely and though it is all modern and sleek, it still feels fitting for the original era of the house. The cocktail area takes up most of the main floor, with a stand-up bar just off the entryway with a few tables and then a larger lounging area with sofas and chairs just beyond. The drinks are exceptionally good, and the spirits menu is creative. They also offer a few small plates. There is plenty of paved parking immediately next to the hotel for guests only, so that is not a hassle as it can be at some B&B/inn-type establishments. At check-in, you are offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to set the tone. The rooms are comfortable, but I will say that the entry-level ones are quite small (which is apparent on the website), but for the rates charged there isn't even a place to sit and read a book other than the bed. There's one small, delicate wicker chair that would be for tying shoes or whatever, but not lounging. The bed is luxuriously dressed, and there is drawer space and a minifridge, but no closet -- hanging items can go on hooks by the door out in the open. The bathroom is spacious enough, with a broad sink and elegant tilework. The lighting fixtures throughout are nifty. I found the breakfast sort of average for this type of place. I came later on, so perhaps there is more earlier, but there were a few pastries, some hard-boiled eggs, and fruit when I arrived. There's also a fancy coffee-drink contraption, but those aren't my thing so I left that alone. It's a very easy walk across the Boylan Bridge and down a couple of blocks to the area of the Dillon with several restaurants, and the performing arts center is not far beyond that. The only silly part was that it was about $3 extra for pancakes or waffles. I've been to hotels all across the world and that's always included in the continental price. The hotel has two elevators, a pool and a fitness room. The lobby was nice. When I got to my room, I pushed both switches and one lit up the microwave area and the other didn't seem to do anything. There were no overhead lights and it was dark. There was a small lamp on the desk and another lamp near the bed. From photos it seems my room was missing a lamp near the couch and likely another on the other side of the bed as there was a switch there that wasn't doing anything either. I could deal with the darkness for a night but it wouldn't work so well for a long term stay. I normally have a book with me so I wouldn't have had enough light for that. The bathroom was large and had plenty of light. I wish some of those overhead lights were in the room portion. WIFI was good. The tv didn't always connect so it was the static screen a lot. When it was turned on it would have the thinking circle and then a little bit later a station would show up or the static. It was just a night there so not so much an issue but I wouldn't want to deal with it for a long term stay. The HVAC unit worked well but was on the louder side. So I am not sure if that buffered out any traffic noise. I slept well and the mattress and pillows were comfortable. Breakfast had a room with waffle makers; eggs; sausage and potatoes. Other than that, AVOID THIS HOTEL at all costs. I'm a believer in the Hilton Brand and frequently stay at Hampton Inns during my business and personal travels. They're a reliable choice in the affordable hotel category, and usually they're clean, comfortable, and reliable. But this location fails on almost all levels. I cannot BELIEVE Hilton allows this place to retain their franchise status. This place was an absolute pit - probably one of the grimiest hotels I've ever stayed in. Yes, it was outdated, with shabby, worn furniture and fixtures. But that's not a deal killer - you can still keep a place updated with a fresh coat of paint and regular carpet cleaning. This hotel, though, has clearly made little to no effort to even try to maintain a little dignity, even if the decor is right outta 1992. Featuring sticky, suspiciously stained carpets (in the room and halls), bedsheets that seemed clean but faintly smelled of cigarettes, doors that looked like they'd been cobbled back together after a police raid, and semi-shady clientele lurking about the dark sidewalks outside my room. I originally booked three nights but, after arriving late the first night and sleeping restlessly because the a/c was so noisy I had to turn it off, I promptly packed my bags first thing in the morning, grabbed a coffee and a waffle in the lobby, and checked my a** right on outta there. What's good about this Hampton Inn? The aforementioned friendly staff, the buffet, and a fairly convenient location. Oh, and (for reasons that become glaringly obvious when you check in) it's priced much lower than other Hampton Inn and similar properties in the area. If you're looking to save a few bucks, and you like sticky carpets, questionable wiring, and loud air conditioning units then by all means stop on by. As for me, I booked another Hampton Inn nearby and it feels like a luxury palace compared to this one!
