Moving to a new city when my husband is deployed with the Navy is hard enough, but having to secure employment, a place to live and a safe school for our son made the situation even more challenging. Prior to Courthouse Academy, I had my son in two different schools. What I experienced was heartbreaking. Too often, childcare providers are underpaid and undertrained and not qualified enough to work with children. This leads to high turnover, stressed staff and a low-quality level of childcare. What I experienced at other childcare institutions was a sharp difference between the theory and the practice. My son was not learning anything, he was often placed in groups with other children that were much older or younger just to "keep ratio" and there were too many hazards and cases of poor judgment. At Courthouse Academy it has been a true breath of fresh air. All the teachers and teacher's aides seem to truly love and enjoy their jobs and many have been there for a long time. There is always plenty of staff at the front desk and they keep the children very safe. The building is extremely clean, safe and always freshly decorated with the children's school work. The teachers are organized, talented and communicate very well with parents. The teachers communicate with the children and the parents from a place of love and it shows in everything they do. You simply cannot put a price on peace of mind. And with Courthouse Academy, I never have to worry about my son's safety because I trust the administrators and the staff there very much. At Courthouse Academy my son comes home and tells me what he learns every single day. I am no longer hearing "I don't know", or "I played", or "I went outside" from my son. He sings me new songs in Spanish and English, he tells me the new words he is learning, he shows me his school work, and most of all he tells me how loving and kind his two teachers are which warms my heart and makes me so happy. read more

Courthouse Academy has been the absolute best school for our three children. We enrolled our oldest daughter at Courthouse when she was 2 years old. She is now in 1st grade and reading at a 4th grade reading level. Our second child started at Courthouse Academy in the infant room and is currently in the Spanish Immersion Pre K class. To see her writing her letters and numbers and communicating with her teachers at school in Spanish is quite remarkable. Our youngest child, also started in the infant room and is getting ready to advance to the "transitional two's" class. For parents who work outside of the home, choosing the right place to care for your baby is a difficult decision. We knew that we made the right decision for each of our children. The infant and toddler room teachers have been so warm and loving towards our babies (now toddlers and big kids). From the infant room up, we have always felt as though we are leaving our children with others who truly care for them in a safe and nurturing environment. Each day when I drop our youngest off at school, he immediately runs towards his teacher to give her a big hug. This warms my heart and confirms to me that although he cannot verbalize it yet, he truly feels safe and loved when he is at school. Our oldest children have developed strong friendships that I believe will last for years to come. I could go on and on about all of the other wonderful things that this school has to offer including art class, music class and multiple enrichment opportunities. We have watched each of our three children flourish developmentally, socially and academically while attending Courthouse Academy. The foundation that this school is giving our children will surely set them up for a bright future ahead! The Guldenschuh Family read more

From a former employee: "this facility does not clean their toys or materials whatsoever, there is a severe lack of communication in regards to scheduling and pay and a great concern for the safety and well being for both staff and students" My wife quit her employment here well over a month ago and is still missing her paycheck which is a direct violation of Va Code 40.1-29 then when we called they attempted to force my wife to pay $40 for a stop payment fee for a check that is obviously lost in the mail another blatant violation of 40.1-29. "Employers are legally prohibited from withholding or deducting any portion of an employee's wages unless they have written consent from the employee, or it is for a tax/court ordered purpose." "An employer may not pass their own banking or operational costs like a stop-payment fee onto you to reissue a missing check." "Virginia Law dictates that your final paycheck must be issued or or before your next reguraly scheduled payday regardless of termination or resignation" My wife was never communicated with her regards to her hourly wage she was told they'll talk about it and never did. My wife never knew her start date or time until a few hours before the facility opened up. I attempted yet again to get in contact with the director in regards to this but yet again she is in a meeting. We have waited around patiently for the paycheck and have decided to get an attorney and file a formal complaint through the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry. We also intend on contacting Virginia Beach Department of Social Services and filing an inquiry in regards to cleanliness, and staff to children ratio discrepancies that my wife experienced as an employee read more

My son is almost 9 months old and has been at Courthouse Academy since he was 3 months old. I'm a working mother and was reluctant to go back to work when he was just 3 months old. I was nervous he wouldn't develop as fast or feel lonely or even miss his mommy. I am proud to say that my fears couldn't be further from the the truth with Courthouse Academy. He has learned and developed at an accelerated rate. A lot of his firsts were AT daycare and not at home. When he first sat up on his own, first crawled backward, first crawled forwards--heck the first time he bounced in a bouncer was after watching another child do it! One day I picked up my son and the teacher handed him to me and he wanted to go back to the teacher. Although my heart sank a little, I was ultimately happy he was loved on in the way I would if I was home with him. He has the sweetest teachers ever and the communication with them throughout the day while I'm at work is OPEN. I love it! I update my coworkers on pictures I receive, post them to my social media, and go back to work with immense peace of mind that Knoxy is dare I say better off at daycare than at home with me. He's interacting with other kids his age on a daily basis (watching their every move), participating in art and music classes, going on stroller walks, listening to christmas music, and living his best life! I couldn't ask for a better daycare situation and I'm really looking forward to entering him into the Spanish immersion program! read more

This is my daughter's first year at Courthouse. She is in the 3's Spanish Immersion classes. At first, we were nervous that she wouldn't adapt as quickly to a school setting; however, her teachers and the admins are so great with the kids. She loved it after the first day! She says everyone in her class are her best friends including her teachers. They work on the basics with the 3's: numbers, letters, colors, cutting with scissors, hand eye coordination, writing/tracing, and music and art (I'm sure there's more that I didn't cover.) My daughter is in the Spanish Immersion class. Two months in she knew how to count to 10. Now she knows some of her colors (red, green, blue, yellow, black and white.) I love that they offer a variety of after school activities such as Mini Med School, Soccer Shots, and Rock-It Science...just to name a few. When you sign up for any of these extracurricular activities, they send you a weekly update on what they did that day. I'm not sure if all teachers use the Appletree app or something like it, but my daughter's teacher sends us daily updates on what they did in class that day AND pictures of all the kids. She also keeps us informed of future events, like if there is a bake sale, book fair, class party or school closings. I would highly recommend Courthouse Academy to any parent looking to enroll their kid. read more

My child attended Courthouse Academy for Kindergarten and First Grade. We were thrilled with those first two years but thought it would be a good time to tradition him into public school for second grade. Worst mistake ever!! He was miserable, bored and just another kid in a desk. We had limited contact with the teacher, bullying was a huge issue that was never truly dealt with and he regressed quickly from boredom. We also had some incidents that pushed us over the edge as parents and decided to send him back to Courthouse! Not only did they welcome us back with open arms, they surrounded our child with love and support and got him back on track to being happy learning again! He has thrived this year and he is back to loving learning and has blossomed! To say that I highly recommended Courthouse is an understatement! I wish all children had the opportunity to learn in this type of environment! The teachers and staff know every kid by name and they care! They want them to succeed and will do everything in their power to make it happen! The Marti Family will recommend this school to everyone!! read more

This is my daughters fourth year at Courthouse Academy and all of her teachers have always been amazing! They genuinely care for their students and work so hard to bring out their potential. My daughter is learning more than I ever thought at this point. I had no idea that she would be conjugating verbs in Spanish in the first grade!! The leadership is amazing here!!! We love the principle!! Ms Julie is always right there in her office every morning as soon as you walk in with her door open and a smile on her face!!! She is so personable with everyone that comes through the door!!! We love her!! Everyone is always so friendly and happy to be there!! That really makes a big difference! I honestly can't say enough good things about this school!!! I recommend it to everyone i know!!!! We can't imagine her at any other school!! She loves it here!! - Tiffany read more

When I drop off my son in the morning the interaction I have with the teachers, other parents and children is heartwarming. It's a very happy place and I feel great heading into work knowing he is in the best hands. When we toured other daycare facilities and then Courthouse Academy there was no question! Not only are the hallways happy and bright but the children seem so enthused and cared for! All of the teachers (regardless of grade) and even the Admin know the students by name and interact with them on a daily basis. What sold me initially was the art and music classes. I love when they send artwork home. I recommend this daycare / school for anyone looking for a safe haven for their child--no matter their age! read more

Courthouse Academy is a rare, unique and much needed school in the Hampton Roads Area. The Spanish immersion curriculum prepares children way ahead of time to encounter a bilingual (and multilingual) society. Parents and children can feel confident in sending their children out into the world with the ability to communicate, help and befriend people of many different cultural backgrounds. The teachers are knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and caring to the students. The school is always clean and there's always a fun activity going on in each room to keep the children engaged. This is the perfect school to send your children to whether you have an infant or a third grader! Courthouse Academy Rocks! Shauna White read more

This is my daughters 2nd year at courthouse, and we love it so much!!! She adores her teacher and really looks forward to going to school everyday! I am so amazed at how much she is learning at 5!! I especially love how loving and friendly everyone is! On the second day of school when she started last year she was already being greeted at the door by name! Another thing I love are all of the fun things they randomly bring to the school. A couple days ago she came home telling me that they brought in all different animals and she got to touch a baby alligator! There are always fun things like this going on and in a great learning environment! I wouldn't want her anywhere else! -Tiffany Francisco read more

We have had the privilege of having 3 of our children attend Courthouse Academy. Our oldest has attended from Pre-K through 2nd grade, our middle from pre-k through 1st grade and our baby from the 3 year old class through pre-k. All of the teachers that have been involved in teaching our children have been wonderful. The kindness shown from the front office, teachers, before and after assistants, dance instructors and housekeeping have played a large part in why we keep coming back every year. This school has it all-Spanish immersion, extra curricular activities, fun hands on learning programs, field trips, holiday programs, etc. Lynsey and Kelvin Diaz (Evan-8, Violet-6, Isla-4) read more

My child has been attending Courthouse Academy since she was 2 years old. We love the school! My daughter is so excited every morning. She is now in 2nd grade in the Spanish Immersion program. I am amazed at what she knows in both English and Spanish. She is even reading in Spanish. It is also such a relief to me that she is able to participate in extra-curricular activites there. By the time I get off work it is too late for me to take her to any activities. I can't thank all my daughter's teachers enough for the wonderful job they have done. And thank you to all the wonderful ladies up front for always taking interest in my daughter and our family. read more

This is my first year with Courthouse Academy and I am SO glad I found it! The school is a wonderful learning environment filled with happy faces! After teaching in Portsmouth Public Schools for the last two years I was run down and needed to find somewhere where I could be happy and rediscover my joy and love for teaching. C.A. is exactly what I needed; there are children eager to learn, teachers who genuinely love what they do, admin who go above and beyond, and parents who actually care and are involved in their children's education. I look forward to being a part of this wonderful school and growing with it! ~Ms. Amy read more

We have been at Courthouse since my daughter was 3, she is now 7. All 3 at my kids are at the school ranging from 1, 3 and 7 year old. We absolutely love the school, the teachers and staff. I never imagined that I would find a place that I would fell comfortable leaving them at. They are nurturing and care for the kids with so much love. My kids have been exposed to so many different cultures, traditions and have learned to value individuality because of the explore they get at school. I know that Vourthouse has made a huge impact in their lives. To say we love our school is an understatement. The Shuler Family read more

Courthouse Academy is an amazing preschool . From the staff to the teachers and all of the children. My daughter is in the traditional 2's and she is doing amazing. With the help of wonderful teachers Miss Clair, Miss Ciara and Miss Nicole she is able to recite the Pledge of Alligence. They stand out from other schools because they are so patient with the two year olds . They remember they're Only toddlers but they use repititon to help them learn . She never wants to leave and she walks into school excited ALMOST everyday (toddlers have their days lol) You won't go wrong choosing Courthouse !!!!! read more

I would recommend this school to any parent that's looking for a great education for their children. We just moved to the area and my experiences with some of the schools in my past were horrible. They allowed bullying and did not promote a positive learning environment. Since coming to courthouse academy my son is excited about learning and he gives me Spanish lessons everyday. He's more articulate and confident. Last week they got to make potato chips in class and he stated that this is the reason he wants to be a chef when he grows up. Thank you Courthouse Academy for everything. Latoya Graham read more

I sent all three of my kids to Courthouse Academy, starting from when my oldest son turned 2 1/2 (and he's now 16!!) I looked at several preschools in the area, but I knew from the moment I stepped into Courthouse Academy, this was the place! Everyone from the owner and front office staff, to the teachers, were patient, loving and kind to my children. They all learned so much, in a supportive and compassionate environment. My children are now 12, 14 and 16 and successful socially and academically, and I have many to thank at Courthouse Academy for starting them off in this world the right way! read more

Courthouse Academy has amazing teachers and staff. My son was very apprehensive to start preschool, but his teachers made him feel welcomed and loved since day one. I'm a school teacher, and I don't do any academic work with my child at home. I'm impressed at how my son's vocabulary in English and Spanish has expanded. Also, within 2 months he was able to recognize letters, write letters, and even produce some letter sounds. I love how the teachers share their lesson plans with the parents, because we are aware of what they are learning. I'm so happy we found this school. Paula Hernandez read more

I have taught kindergarten for three years at Courthouse and I count my blessings each and every day. Courthouse isn't just a school, it a community. I have loved watching the children grow, not just the ones in my class. Each morning I stand outside my classroom door and I look forward to greeting each and every child that walks down the hall. In my classroom we call each other friends and family, that's because each and every student starts off as my friend and as we grow together they eventually hold a special place in my heart as part of my family! read more
