Each session felt really meaningful and the skills she helped us build were certainly not techniques we were going to find in self help books. Weird experience with this company. Had a few sessions, then it all abruptly stopped. I found the therapist to be somewhat unprofessional in one session but didn't make a fuss of that. The most important failing was that we found her to be pretty ineffective in high conflict situations. Couples Learn only seems to care about their bottom line. I started with a therapist at Couples Learn, my first time ever seeing one, and two sessions in the therapist quit and was no longer offering therapy services. It took me a while to narrow down who I wanted to see and I was never informed of the change prior to me beginning. Had Couples Learn informed me, I would have found another therapist. I requested a refund and was only offered a free session with a different less experienced therapist. Dr. Sarah Schewitz refused to refund me for the two sessions. I'm sure they were well aware of my therapist's timeline but did not inform me because they were more interested in their bottom line. read more

I am writing this review of Dr. Sarah, years after receiving pre marital counseling with her and my husband. She pretty much ruined our marriage at this point. She told my husband i am "emotionally abusive" and consistently sided with him throughout our sessions. I was always the enemy and he was always the victim. Yes, i admitted that i said some hurtful things to him back then and i was often in the wrong and i have continued to apologize. To this day, even after i have sought my own individual therapy and worked on myself and am no longer acting emotionally immature, he still hangs on to Dr. Sarah's words of "emotional abuse" and holds things from the past against me. My current therapist said this was not the right wording for Dr. Sarah to use, as emotional abuse implies the person was doing their actions on purpose to purposely hurt the other person. I have never done/said anything to my husband to purposely hurt him. I was immature early in our relationship and there is a very large age difference between my husband and I, which if Dr. Sarah was a good therapist, would be able to understand that and work with both sides. I am worried my marriage may be unrepairable at this point, thanks to her poor counseling. read more

Let me preface my review by stating that our therapist is Kirsten Siewert, she's one of a kind and you are lucky to have her as your couple's therapist. Onto the review: I feel that in our era given how much we are advancing with technology; we often forget how important healthy communication is. I am guilty of being one of those individuals who thought couples therapy was for losers because I love my girlfriend and love conquers all right? That is the romanticized version of life and I could not be more wrong. One day, I lost my temper because I took criticism from my girlfriend the wrong way and that was the pivoting moment for us to seek couple's therapy. We both thought we were right in our thinking and righteous in our value systems and technically we were both correct, BUT communicating these feelings in a healthy way is the hard part. Kirsten taught us many of the "tools" my girlfriend and I apply today in our everyday life, not only in our own relationships but also in our social and business relationships. The communication tools she passes down to you are priceless. You may think they are commonsense but you'll come to realize they are extremely difficult in practice. Each couple internalizes these tools differently and often requires an expert like Kirsten to help you talk through the process of understanding them within your terms ESPECIALLY with your partner next to you. It is important each couple witnesses each other process the situation in real time allowing you to understand one another deeper. We value Kirsten tremendously, we often think to ourselves, how does anyone get through a relationship, let alone a marriage, without someone like Kirsten?. My girlfriend and I still have disagreements but the way we manage them is healthier. Each time we overcome the disagreement; I can feel our bond become stronger. We continue to absorb all of the knowledge that Kirsten teaches us and continue to get better at building our relationship(s). I cannot emphasize how important a couple's therapist is in this day and age where a lot of basic communication is lost in technology. I met Sarah during a challenging period in my second year of marriage. Codependency and control issues were surfacing over and over again. These were familiar issues that mirrored the example my parents had set in my childhood. I never wanted to repeat my parents' mistakes (including divorce) so I started reading relationship "self help" books. No matter how many books I read, I still found myself in the same cycle of codependency and control issues. With every verbal fight or miscommunication, I wanted to run away, believing that this must not be the "right" relationship or partner for me. My boyfriend and I just had a free 30 minute consultation with Dr. Sarah and I'm really surprised how much value we got out of it! I've worked with other therapists in the past and honestly, have felt like it was a waste of money a lot of the time. I don't need to pay someone to just sit there and listen to me...I have friends for that. So I was skeptical going into therapy again but my boyfriend and I really need to work on our communication and honestly, what we are doing on our own is not working. I really appreciate that Dr. Sarah offers this free consult. Working with a good therapist is not cheap and you want to know you're going to get something out of it before jumping in. After having our consult, I feel really good about working with her. She already gave us some tips on what we could do to improve things between us, she was super easy to talk to, and both me and my boyfriend feel like we will learn a lot from our sessions with her. My fiancé and I came to Dr. Schewitz for premarital counseling and it was such a good experience! We weren't really sure what, if anything we needed to talk about but we had heard good things about it from a friend who worked with Dr. Schewitz and felt like it was probably a good idea to talk to a professional before making the biggest commitment of our lives, haha. Before starting, we both were kinda worried that we would end up fighting or starting issues where there were none and TBH, I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth the investment. After doing it, I can say I probably would have paid double what we did because we got so much value out of our sessions. She taught us how to communicate more effectively, had us do exercises to get clear on our values and expectations for marriage, helped us learn what makes each other feel loved and cared about, and taught us ways to maintain romance in our marriage. I also loved that it was all online because it made things so much more convenient and comfortable to be able to have sessions at home. 3 years later our marriage is going strong and we still use the tools we learned in premarital counseling. I hate giving bad reviews and usually don't because it makes me sad. This was a disaster. 1 star If you are a couple that actually has real deep issues, you need to actually go see a REAL therapist/counselor. If you are also trying to save your relationship or marriage then go see a REAL therapist/counselor. Sarah is probably more trained for startup relationships or mail-order/arranged marriages. Its basic horoscope type stuff. "Dr." Sarah looked warm but felt cold. The room was bright but she was dim. She's spiritual, but not religious..(wtf) you don't know who your creator is?? Not sure what all these other reviewers actually experienced. Maybe "Dr." Sarah was having an off day with me, and my future ex. (thanks Sarah) Perhaps 9 out of 10 reviews were left by women and NOT men. Well, I'm the man. Just so happens she's super cool with my lady, not so much with me. My lady would totally give her 5 stars! (and probably will) She had a separate 30 mins by herself with Sarah. Mine was today for about 6 mins before Sarah's new friend (my girlfriend) came out and they were like "hey girl" oh my gosh your hair! blah blah blah. They took over my 30 mins. When she should have told my girlfriend to leave and give me my 30 mins by myself. The entire direction of the 30 mins was nonexistent after that. She had no control or any actual substance.. I feel like I didn't have a chance to be understood, or get to know Sarah. I was most concerned about the 2 hour mandatory survey. She literally couldn't keep up my concerns or my relationship, and straight up waved the white flag. She doesn't want to see us as a couple but she will see my girlfriend still. THANK GOD! (shes the one the needs it anyways) because of that I will now give her 2 stars. Seems like the whole point of Sarah's process is to eventually get you to fill out a questionnaire that takes a couple hours. The computers do the minority reporting and basically tell her how to do her job.. After my evaluation and in my perspective Sarah would be a fantastic counselor/therapist (whatever) for FEMALES. Try Dr. Sarah out though! ITS FREE! You have only your relationship to lose. (and 30 mins) Afterwards leave an honest opinion, and if you love her it will cancel out mine more and more. Dr. Schewitz has been my therapist for almost a year now and I am so grateful to have found her! I had been seeking a therapist for a year off-and-on but struggled to find one that would take my insurance and was accepting new patients. Finally, I decided to look into live, online therapy sessions and found Dr. Schewitz through my insurer's online portal. I was drawn to Dr. Schewitz's profile due to her focus on relationships. I knew part of the depression I'd been dealing with related to relationships and she has definitely helped me here. Dr. Schewitz listens but doesn't just sit there passively. She has been great about guiding me to my own conclusions and dismantling counterproductive behaviors in a way that isn't dominating. She shares outside resources for me to take my growth and development as far as I want and in the directions that appeal to me. I've had good and bad therapists in the past and so I do appreciate the quality of care as described above; but I will say it initially surprised me to consider how different she & I might be. I think I felt like I had found the right therapist for me when I realized how flexible she is in offering support to her patients. It's not a "one size fits all" approach to therapy and so I really trust her perspective. Dr. Sarah really helped me figure out whether or not I wanted to stay in my relationship. I sought therapy at a time when I was feeling really conflicted. My girlfriend was pressuring me to get married and I wasn't sure she was the one but I also wasn't sure I wanted to let her go either. Sarah recommended books for me to read that helped me understand my girlfriend's perspective better and helped me understand more about my own fears and hesitation. She also pushed me to have conversations with my girlfriend that I never would have initiated otherwise and they all turned out to be really good!
