I love bubbly so of course I had to check this place out. I came on Saturday around 730pm with a girl friend and we had a good time catching up and enjoying some drinks. We were seated along the wall at a low two top. I had a couple glasses of house bubbles (can't beat $6/glass) and we shared the naan flatbread with shrimp and mushrooms. My friend enjoyed her espresso martini and we spent about an hour and a half there. It's in a good area (with EV charging!) by Hi Wire, Cugino, and an ice cream shop. I enjoyed the bubbles and food but to be honest, I can't quite put my finger on it, something seemed to be missing. Service was decent, not overly friendly, and not necessarily rude, maybe just feeling impersonal if that makes any sense.

Pro tip: on your first visit, sign up with your email address/phone number (I don't think I've even received any messages from them since) and you get a free dessert on your birthday! I especially love their mocktails. This time, I got the Lychee Keen (Kentucky 74, lychee, luxardo cherries, lime juice- the sweet/tart contrast was chef's kiss) and Oreo Cake (absolutely no notes- loved the layers of chocolate cake, cream, and soft Oreos). Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance is great: pink speakeasy vibe, super cute. Still 10/10 would recommend!

One of my new favorite cocktail bars in Durham! Obsessed. Could not be more cute. On one hand, I want to tell everyone and their sister about it, it's so cute. On the other hand, I want to keep it on the DL because I don't want it to get too popular that I can't get in! The decor and ambiance is A++ - love the pink and glam of this place. The drinks are EXCELLENT. Tons of great champagne cocktails, other cocktails and wine and spirits. Also a large and yummy selection of mocktails! The food (mostly small plates) is okay but the dessert is scrumptious! Service is friendly. Perfect place to go for a girls night out, bday party or even Bach!!

We had read about a new champagne bar opening in the Golden Belt complex in Durham and drove over on a whim on a Saturday evening to take a look. They are on the quieter side away from the art galleries and brewery so it took us a while to find them. Once we stepped inside, it felt like we were in a fancy hotel parlor. Yes, it is a little girlie but also elegant. We tried two sparking wines and a very sweet almond coconut cake, but they also have some light bites and tinned fish. They also have champagne cocktails, regular cocktails, plus wine and beer. Our very pleasant server also brought a complimentary fruit cocktail for visiting in their first few weeks. I give them credit for opening a new concept that isn't like anything like it in the area. Right now they are only open Thurs-Sat but I'm sure that will change as they settle in and find their groove. Definitely check them out.

Amazing! It's a vibe. Take pictures, enjoy the drinks and the entire staff. We went for a friend's birthday and it was such a good time.

Takes 30 minutes to get a drink. Not sure how it takes that long to make a couple of drinks.

My friend and I came to Annexe after attempting to go to Bar Virgile, which was popping (on a…read moreMonday night!). The BV server said that if we didn't want to wait, Annexe was their sister bar downstairs with the same kitchen. While BV's vibes are ~adult, sultry, modern~ Annexe is more ~young, party, fun~ Honestly, we were just hungry and didn't care too much. On Mondays, they have a $12 burger deal that comes with fries and a beer, which is a steal. As a not beer girlie, I appreciated that they allowed me to substitute a house soda. My friend is gluten-free and they allowed substitutions for her meal as well. The burger was good- not the best burger I've had in my life but tasty. Same with the fries. I got the Pistachio Orange house soda, which was interesting and refreshing, albeit a tiny bit heavy on the spices. My biggest qualm was with the wait- it took at least 25 minutes for our drinks (it wasn't super busy like BV) and 1 hour for our food (understandable I suppose with the shared kitchen). Now I was busy yapping with my friend so that wasn't too big of a deal for us, but I feel like it was notable. Service was also maybe a bit too attentive, with multiple attempts to grab our plates before we were fully finished- again not a huge problem for us in the grand scheme of things. Overall, a good option if all you care about is food and BV is too busy, but the vibes are completely different. 7/10 would recommend!

I ordered the Hot Girl Summer (Olmeca Altos Reposado, fresh watermelon, Gran Gala orange liqueur, house-made habanero syrup, lime, salt half rim) which was so good. I also ordered a cheetahs do it in the dark (Astral Añejo tequila, Licor 43, Caffè Borghetti liqueur, espresso, orange twist) which was also excellent. I'd recommend walking out to the rooftop if it isn't too hot. There are several tables and the views of the city are nice. Definitely will come back to the velvet hippo next time I'm in Durham.

The apple flavor whiskey was not good. Too syrupy and the peach flavor is insanely sweet; may be good in a mixed drink. The sweet potato was good. I could sip that easily. The acoustics were amazing and it added to the ambiance. There wasn't a hostess so we weren't sure how seating worked until we were approached by a someone working there who advised us that we could sit anywhere. While the ambiance was pleasant, the literal chairs that we were sitting in were falling apart and actually hazardous to the point that we advised the manager that the chairs had dangerously wobbly legs. Our server seemed pleasant and we ordered wings, a chicken sandwich, the Main Street old fashioned and the Ehh what's up doc. The drinks took a while to come out but they were delicious. Our food on the other hand took about 40 minutes to come out. The menu indicated that my sandwich came with kettle cooked chips but l didn't expect that it would be a literal bag of chips. I actually expected the chips to be made in house so it would be good if the menu actually said "bag of chips". Our server stated that the delay was because there was a large order that came into the kitchen but the large party that was there was actually leaving and didn't leave with a large food order. As it turns out, the food that came out before ours belonged to our server and her friends who were eating at another table close to the bar. We declined the free drink we were offered as an apology and had beignets to-go instead but being lied to about the reason for the wait on what appeared to be a slow night was unacceptable. Do better.

The wine list is broad and thoughtfully curated, with options that feel approachable whether you're a casual wine drinker or someone looking to try something new. The sommeliers were welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about helping us find something we loved. The space itself is adorable, with eclectic décor and cozy lighting that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile. It's a great spot for conversation and a relaxed evening with friends. The only downside is that the space is fairly small, and I would have loved to see one or two more lower seating options for small groups rather than mostly high tops. That said, I could absolutely see us coming back for a pre- or post-theater glass of wine or an easy catch-up night.

The service is awesome--our server was super friendly and gave me a great drink recommendation when I wasn't sure what I wanted. It ended up being perfect. My friend and I shared a glass of the 2023 Cederberg Bukettraube (sweet white wine) and got the charcuterie board for one with the truffle salami. That board was so good--I can't stop thinking about it. The toasted baguette slices with truffle salami and mustard? Unreal. It was the perfect little snack to share. We also had the citrus lavender crème brûlée, which was surprisingly delicious. I don't usually go for crème brûlée, but this one was light, not overly sweet, and just had a really nice flavor. I've also tried their shepherd's pie before and loved it--wish it was still on the menu! The vibe inside is moody and cozy, and they've got a cute outdoor patio too. Overall, such a great spot. A little pricey, but I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend checking out Killer Queen.

But show up when you search up food downtown... They keep it dark I guess to help hide with the sexual harassment happening on the dance floor. I watched their own karaoke host to be groped. And nobody did anything. Also had a friend drugged without consent here... Not only that sometimes they charge you after you leave make sure to take a picture of the receipt after you close your tab!
