Eric R. and I found parking in downtown Wamego and walked to the park. Adult tickets were $5 each which is a fair price. There were maps everywhere, with different entertainers at different stages and ampitheatres. Tents were spread throughout the big park, each one highlighting a different area of the state. Inside were booths of CVBs and representatives from various cities. In the vendor/KS products booth, we met the writer of the Kansas Trail Guide book that is not even out on amazon yet. We talked to him about how he explored the whole state for hikes and trails, and we bought his book. We look forward to exploring the state for hikes and Eric R.'s cycling passion. There were some food trucks and booths from around the state. Eric R. tried BBQ from Halverson. We heard the bison burgers were great but the line was too long and we had to go back to MHK. I was intrigued by the Lindsborg tent - there is a Swedish community there a little under 2 hours from us, so we hope to visit Lindsborg soon!

As a past vendor I am going to tell of my experience. First this place limits you on what you sell…read morefor food like no rootbeer and no ice cream. They play favorites and have only one of each. This is large festival with hundreds of vendors. Next a lot of food vendors sell in tents with product setting in coolers on the ground. Primitive hand washing facilities etc. health inspector would close many of them for not following regulations. The ones of us with state inspected food trailers have very inadequate electric service. Only 120 volt service. Most places this large fairs etc. will supply 50 amp 240 volt service which is what most concession trailers need to keep everything running and food safe. So if you want to eat food that has been setting in coolers on ground waiting to be cooked with dirty hands this is your place.

I came here on a hot summer day to enjoy the rows upon rows of bright yellow sunflowers amongst a beautiful blue sky. The fields may be small, but they are big enough for there to be plenty of flowers and to look yellow from overhead. I had a very relaxing time walking through the sunflower field, taking pictures, and enjoying nature. The farm is free to visit. Strawberries are sold by the pound, and sunflowers are a suggested donation of $1 per cut flower. There were also fresh-off-the-vine watermelons and cantaloupes for sale at $5 each when I visited. Photography is welcomed though a donation is strongly encouraged for each shoot. Overall, Berry Hill Upick Farm is a lovely little farm in Topeka, Kansas.
