They had tastings for local wines, all out of the surrounding vicinity, including San Diego. We just had to do the chocolate pairing as well, and the chocolate is also out of Carlsbad and had so many amazing unique flavors. My favorite being the one with the potato chips. Though I still feel the southern California wines aren't as good as the northern California wines, I'm glad that it's becoming more and more common and I do have to admit that it's improved greatly over the last 10 years. The person who was at the counter of Julian wine and chocolates was super friendly and knowledgeable. The little shop was very inviting and the tasting prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend you stop in and check out some of the Southern California wines.

They don't have many sweet wines, which is fine. but the wines I have tasted, their sangria and hot wine were the best. Hot wine is their seasonal thing so I was glad we were able to taste it while we were here. Parking is plenty, it wasn't really crowded when we went. they had about less than 10 tables set outside and no indoor seating except very few bar seating. They do allow outside food here so we brought our own charcuterie board. Comparing to other wines I had we all thought the wine here were very tart and tasted very much the same from each tasting.. I recommend only their seasonal hot wine and sangria.

We came about an hour after they opened on a Saturday during a long weekend and we were surprised to be the only ones there. It was a very small winery but really beautiful! We were greeted by Kona, the lovely dog assistant and served by Garett. They were really helpful with us and were great throughout the entire experience. Sadly, we were disappointed with the red and white flats here. They were not particularly good for the ones we ordered (notably the "kisses"). The wine tasting here offers more than just the typical "flat" wines and has options for sangrias, slushees, and even pairings with Girl Scout cookies! It ended up being the highlights of the tastings with the sangria and slushees and should have had more of those during our time here. We almost didn't get a bottle until we tried the sparkling rose and we had to get one to go! Overall, it's a nice and quiet, yet beautiful experience, but I do recommend getting the "other fun" wines here rather than the typical flat red and white.

I really enjoyed hanging out and talking with John as I enjoyed my wine-tasting (only $10). We shared a love of Baja and the wines of Valle de Guadalupe, so it was fun to talk about restaurants, wines, and was excited to learn that they host overnight wine-tasting bus trips down to Baja/Valle, staying at La Fonda. I tried the Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc/Chenin Blanc, Harvest Red (a blend of Cabernet and Granache), Merlot and their gold medal winning Cabernet Sauvignon. My favorite was the Cab, and I got a bottle of that, although I liked the Harvest Red, too. They often have special events, and today, they were setting up for a band to play 1-4 pm, and were going to be making pizzas. Wish I could have stayed longer!
