I went to Cothran's on Wednesday for the first time. The store is very clean and has an amazing selection of baked goods. The staff was extremely courteous and the prices are extremely fair for homemade goodies. I ordered a peanut butter cookie, 2 Mississippi mud brownies, a German chocolate cupcake, a macadamia nut cookie, two peanut butter/ chocolate clusters, and a chocolate chip cookie.... Can't believe it's taken so long to stop in here and check these guys out. First thing to keep in mind, they are on a busy part of the street and there is a light to turn in to the parking lot, but not a light to turn out .... so you may have to turn out and find a spot to turn around, depending on where you are heading next. This is a great little home grown baked goods store. Looks like they have the capability to fulfill any of your baking needs. I popped in and grabbed a donut and was very pleased. Selection is good and prices are great. Cream filled/glazed donut was .99 cents (plus tax). Staff was friendly and took turns helping people, so you got in and out pretty quickly. This place has amazing selections of donuts and pastries and I love them .... But the bad thing bout it, is that they do not use thong to grab the donuts. They are using paper which it doesn't matter, but the fact that the employees when they're picking up the donuts from the tray, they actually touched the donuts. If you think about it, they're touching things like credit cards or money when they rang up customers, then they will serve the next customers, they will touched the edge of the donuts because that paper that they're using, it slides. I watched it in my own eyes all the time. I wish the owner will invest thongs in every tray for sanitary reasons. I also told one of the employee that she touched my donuts, I said it is very unsanitary. read more

This review is so everyone will know that Cochran's Bakery on Wallace Street, employees MIRACLE WORKERS a.k.a ANGELS. I literally tried to reach the bakery at 5 different Walmarts for a week without success. I gave up on a Walmart bakery and also tried Target, Publix, and Winn Dixie. I guess nobody answers phones anymore but if you have a website that is not operating properly , it's a good idea to consider taking phone calls. I called COCHRANS after a suggestion from a phone operator for the Attalla Walmart. I hadn't bothered to look for their hours of operation. When I called it was 3:00 (thanks Vicki for listening to my sad story) and I had no idea they closed at 4. They didn't reopen until Tuesday and my son's birthday party, with relatives from out of state attending, was less than 24 hours away. When she told me that they closed at 4, I thought there's no way they can do anything customized, so I won't be getting that " YOU'RE THE BEST MOMMY IN THE WORLD" I live to hear from my son. However, I was wrong, not only did they customize the cake, they did it 45 minutes before they closed. I don't know what it taste like but it's beautiful and I can't imagine ANGELS making or selling cake that was anything less than mouthwatering. Thanks again to everyone who works there, you saved the day. If I could I would give you a million stars !! Fall break.... it is time to rest and learn something new. My daughter and I invited our school friends to a take trip to see Noccalula falls at Gadsden Alabama. And of course before the trip I was trying to find a cute and interesting dessert place to visit. And my choice fell on this place. And when we got there the line of people was long. I think local people love this place for the boxes of cookies and cupcakes. The selection of the fruit bars was big. I picked the strawberry bar and blueberry fritter. I got Cothran's donuts a couple months ago and while the donuts themselves were absolutely delicious and fairly priced, the lady behind the counter seemed to be having a very hard time ringing us up. We came in right at opening and she seemed like she was already having a rough morning. We wanted to get three dozen donuts and split it between two debit cards, and this seemed very hard to do. I would not recommend this bakery to my worst enemy. They ruined my whole wedding day. When I first ordered my cake I paid it in full the same day. And they told me they would call me in a few days and let me know what the delivery fee would be. I never hear from them I called and went up there 2 times and was told that I would get a call back. So finally I messaged them on Facebook and asked for the 3rd Time what the delivery fee would be and they finally got back to me. Then the next day they told me that I did not pay for my cake that I needed to bring my receipt to prove that I did. And the day of the wedding they where supposed to be at the venue at 12. We called and they forgot my cake. And when they finally did arrive they brought me the wrong cake. They are awful. They have very poor management skills. read more

For such a simple food, it's surprisingly difficult to get a great doughnut. Their doughnuts are everything a doughnut should be. You can taste the vanilla in the glaze, the cream is absolutely perfect, and the dough is fluffy. I don't know that I've ever tried anything other than a glazed cream filled there because, well, I live in Colorado and if I'm only going to get to have these once a year, I'm not messing around!
