We also tried their red wine by the glass, and it was very, very good. When the carbonara came out, I couldn't wait to dig in. The crispy bits of bacon were tasty and the dish was seasoned perfectly. All in all, a fantastic meal. The only downside, no air conditioning and their pizza oven heats up the entire restaurant, not it's worth it!!!

The food was just spot on, along with friendly service. They took the time to explain the menu and didn't rush you along. The 1st - 2 evenings we just stuck with the pizza's and loved them all. I'd highly recommend anyone looking for good Italian food that tastes good and is filling to come try this place out. It's a cool little space with a deli case right at the front so there is no hiding anything. Our two servers took great care of us, explained the menu and took our order. We both ordered the pasta carne with dirty pork and a red sauce. Tagliatelle was the pasta of the day, not sure if that changes or not. We also ordered house wine, red for me and white for the lovely K. The 1/8 litre 4 1/4 ounces for 3.5 euros wasn't expensive, but it also wasn't enough. You can order more (1/4 litre is 6 euros) which we would next time. The food came out hot and quickly and very nicely covered in Parmigiana Reggiano and was a good sized portion for 13.5 euros. Would we rave about it, probably not, but it was great!

In fact, the second night in Salzburg we gave up trying to find a restaurant we could park at and ate here again! There is no outdoor seating, and on A/C -- so cooler weather would be better. The menu is quite extensive, with pizza and a lot of other Italian dishes. We tried the pizza one night, but then tried the lasagna, and other pasta dishes. The tomato and mozzerella salad was awesome! The service was great and the owners were very nice. English was a little limited, but enough to get by -- and there were English language menus. Istra is actually a Croatian restaurant, and they specialize in seasonal grilled seafood and truffle pasta. There is no standard menu - more a choice of 1, 2 or 3 course meal. The star is their fish platter which consisted of grilled fish, grilled calamari and shrimps, over a head of mixed root vegetables. The owners don't speak a lot of English but they were very hospitable. I highly recommend reading through their websites before going so you know what to expect. Now the food. Spectacular is the only word that came to mind. First time we just had the fish platter for 2 and shared between 3 people. A luxurious platter with 2 perfectly pan-fried fish, 2 shrimps in shell and 2 grilled baby calamari on a bed of carrots, squash, zucchini and mushrooms magically turned up at the table. The seasoning is basic but perfect. A complementary basket of bread also came with the meal and house white wine paired very well with the seafood fair. It was so good we went back for lunch again the next day. This time we also ordered their truffle pasta. The white truffle on the pasta was epic - appetizer size was obly €18!! I dare say the same size with black truffle in NY would have put us back at around 30 bucks and nowhere as much truffle that was on the plate. Istra seafood restaurant was a refuge from all the meat-oriented restaurants during my week trip in Austria. Started with a tuna carpaccio topped with light olive oil, sea salt and fresh ground pepper. Main dish was a fresh white fish grilled to perfection with a side of savory veggies to pair. Meal paired perfectly with Austrian table wine which was recommended by the waiter. Absolutely delicious, wonderful waiter and happy I took my hotels' recommendation to eat at Istra.
