This one was fine. Your typical tourist bodega with cheap chotchkies and a reasonable selection of drinks and snacks. We were there to get some local beer and we were in luck. I also thought about getting one of the little tourist items for our kids. But decided we would rather not pay the money for something that will be forgotten in a week. Service was fast. Cashier was friendly. But overall a bland, a-ok experience.

Then either bring them to a house party or just walk down the road drinking them as I head to meet some friends or dinner or wherever. I went in for water but ended up leaving with much more. The prices are so reasonable, hence why I bought more than enough. I was a little offput that the milk case doors were left open which probably isn't right for good safety reasons but other than that no complaints. They had fresh fruit, drinks, candies, dairy items, and things like chips/crisps and crackers. It's not a full grocery store though since it's an express version. They do have self checkouts as well which helps speed things along. Such a great place if you're hungry and don't want to spend a lot.

The Tower of London and various TFL services are a stone's throw away, so this is in a good location. The store inside is a typical Co-Op in terms of selection and decor, I did find the to-go beverage section to be a little depleted, and I was unable to find the items which I came in for, which was disappointing. I do find the 7 pm-close to be very early for a store like this considering many are often open until 10 or 11, I don't see why that isn't possible especially with the Fenchurch Street location closed. That being said, the store was a decent size, clean and the staff were friendly. I would return here again but there are many stores that are just as good or better close by. 3*

A huge organic selection. A whole shelf of tea. Racks of dried fruits (I am not addicted to dried figs), nuts (cashews!) and I even found jars of sunflower butter here...which is surprisingly good and a good alternative to peanut butter (which they also have). Fantastic ethnic cooking section chock full of sauces, ingredients, grains, rices, beans and any element you probably need, spices, decent bakery with breads, rolls, pitas, etc. Eggs and dairy, beer, wine, a lot of coconut water, and a fresh produce section (outside) which is standard, but nice to have. Things you won't find: fresh meats or fish. Par for the course! The family that runs it is very friendly as well (always so polite!) and I always leave feeling quite good about supporting a local food shop that is not only convenient, but tucked away from the madness of the Old Street roundabout. I guess it's still an upgrade. Having had an epic dinner nearby and needing to go hydration to fend off the long flight and drinking from said meal, the staff told me to wander down here. Fighting off the drinkers, stumblers and cruisers I came to find a decently nice convenience store with higher end products and late night food for the masses. A newsagent with very friendly staff, a good selection of magazines and, strike me down, the facility to top up Oyster Cards. East Londoner's should appreciate the rarity of such a find. This is an area in which you can find 700 incarnations of the humble fifties prom frock in Shoreditch's multitude of vintage shops but tracking down a pint of milk, a cash machine, or somewhere to top up an Oyster Card can be a nightmare. My go-to place for just about everything, the guys that run this place might charge a few pence more for items than the Guven corner-shop further down Calvert Avenue but with service - and services - this good, who the hell cares.

Half the stock on the shelves has usually run out. Amazingly, they sell a pizza 'meal deal' but only have the sides available and don't even order the pizzas that complete the deal! It's super expensive as they barely stock any 'own brand' stuff in there, so you always pay a premium. There are never enough staff. They have one person on the till selling cigarettes, but also doing Argos collections etc so they're never available and often out the back. They then force everyone to use self check out, so if anything goes wrong you have to go hunting around the shop for someone while the security guard looks on refusing to help. Annoyingly most of the self check out machines are tiny too, so if you want to buy more than 2 items you have to balance everything carefully and hope it doesn't fall on the floor. To top it off there's always a massive puddle out the front as the pavement hasn't been levelled right.
